OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH 2016-ARE YOU OVERCOMING?

MEMEORISE: Nay, in all things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37
READ: John 16: 31-33
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. God, in His Word, states that everyone who will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. The experience of persecution is part of our heritage as believers in Christ Jesus. The world will treat you in cruel manner simply because of your faith. They will do many things to hurt you simply because you have chosen to live righteous. There are a lot of prices to pay for being a disciple of Jesus Christ, however , the benefits of following Christ far outweighs its cost. If you truly serve God the way you should the world will persecute you. That is why I pity those people who live amiably

2. If you are genuine believer and the world speaks so well of you and loves you so much, you have to be careful

3. People may say all kind of evil against you. They may hate you. They may decide not to involve you in any beneficial thing, just to put you off. Do not fret, because you will laugh last.

4. Preaching the truth will always attract persecution, but you can be sure that the blood of those you told the truth will not be demanded from you.

5 Nobody who is really devoted to serving the Lord will escape the kind of persecutions that people like David, Jeremiah, Daniel, Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego went through

6. Following the footsteps of Jesus may involve sufferings of all kinds. There are many people who say they are called into ministry, and they want to start the ministry by having all the comforts of life. they want offices that are fully air-conditioned; they want official cars, a place where needs can be regularly guaranteed. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having all these, but it should not become a condition for our response to the calling of God upon our lives.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS
We encounter challenges in our Christian journey however, there is assurance of victory by the almighty God. As the bible say “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all” hence we are indeed more than conqueror.
PRAYER POINTS
Father, please, strengthen me that i may never bow to the pressures of life.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Genesis 1-3, Psalm 97

HYMN 9

1 My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device nor creed;
I trust the Ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
2 Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out. [Refrain]
3 My heart is leaning on the Word,
The written Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s name,
Salvation through His blood. [Refrain]
4 My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY NOVEMBER 6th 2016-FORSAKING THE WAY?

Memorise: For Demas hath forsake me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia Titus unto Dalmatia. 2nd Timothy 4:10.
Read: Luke 9:57-62 (KJV)
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Bible in one year: Revelation 19:11-22:21, Psalms 96

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the Bible reading of today, some of those who were invited by Jesus could not come because they had excuses. On that day, when we shall all stand before the Almighty God, there will no longer be any excuses.

2. There are many people who started well but didn’t end well because of the distractions of life. There are many things people do, which unknown to them, enslaves them to the devil.

3. Demas forsook the faith because of his love for the world. Are you also forsaking God for riches? If others are deceived, you must not allow yourself to be a victim.

4. The desire to satisfy the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is what is deceiving many. Some people are always concerned about what they don’t have and what God has not done. There is no better life outside Jesus Christ.

5. Anyone who seeks to be a genuine follower of Jesus Christ must be willing to deny himself and live above the ephemerals of this present world. If you will pursue God, money and all that money cannot buy would pursue you. If you don’t forsake Him, His goodness and mercy will follow you daily.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS
Following Christ genuinely entails commitment, perseverance and tolerance. However everyone who has forsaken all for the sake of His kingdom here on earth is wise and such fellow will surely be rewarded by the Almighty God. Let’s keep holding on to our faith in Christ Jesus who is always able to sustain and uphold us with His right hand of righteousness.
Prayer Point
Father, help me never to forsake you for anything in this world.

HYMN

1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.
2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.
3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.
4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.
5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.
6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.
