OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, JULY 22ND 2018- YOU NEED A PARTNER!

Memorise: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. Eccles.4:9
Read: Genesis 2:18-25
18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Bible in one year: Ezra 4-6, Mathew 5:43-6:15

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Partnership or friendship involves a deep, strong connection between two individuals who are bound together in a way that affects every aspect of their individual lives.
2. It is a close relationship that involves mutual trust, fellowship, sharing and companionship. Friendship enriches human life.
3. The mutual affection and devotion that David and Jonathan shared with each other was extraordinary, and it is a prime example of what friendship or partnership is ( 1 Samuel 18:1-4).
4. A friend or partner is a person you feel connected to like your own soul.
5. The Bible discusses the benefits and requirements of friendship or partnership in Proverbs 18:24, while it stresses loyalty and steadfastness as hallmarks of true friendship in Proverbs 17:17, which says: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
6. In Ecclesiastes 4:8-12, the Holy Spirit explains the dangers of being a lone ranger and the benefits of partnership. This passage of scripture states clearly that two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour. If they should slip on any issue, they will console and help each other to recover. Whenever they suffer an attack or are faced with an adversary, the two will put up a more formidable defence, and they stand a better chance of surviving the enemy’s attack together than as individual entities.
7. The Holy Spirit also reveals some more truths about friendship and partnership in Proverbs 19:4&6, saying: “Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.
8. Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.”
9. The wise will keep these truths to heart. Many Christians in the business world would have done better with godly partners, but they are running their businesses alone because they feel that introducing partners will increase their overheads or reduce their profits.
10. The position of the Bible on this is that a right partner will help to increase production and push up profit margins. For example, the great catch of fish in Luke 5:6-7 would have been wasted without the involvement and assistance of partners.
11. The advantages of partnership cannot be overemphasized, even though some people are in a friendly relationship for personal gain. Nevertheless, God wants His children to prayerfully identify, acknowledge and appreciate His talents and special gifts in others.
12. More importantly, He wants us to harness His wonderful investments together in our lives for maximum profit in all that He has destined us to do.
13. The Lord’s declaration in Matthew 18:19 encourages us to work together to achieve greatness that would otherwise be impossible. Begin to harness the power of this word from today.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Truly, when resources are pull together by two or more for productivity the result is often better than lonely struggle. The memory verse of today explains it better “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. Eccles.4:9” . Have you got fantastic idea ? Infact some husbands can’t even trust their wives to partner with. If you can’t trust your spouse as partner who else will you trust? Begin to build trust in your spouses, friends, partner, Christian brothers and see what the Lord will do by just working together with them . May the Lord crown our efforts this season in Jesus name. May God continually bless and strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye I jesus

name.
Prayer Point: Father, please connect me with partners that will lead to greater productivity and efficiency in my life, in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He shed on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, JULY 21ST 2018- THE LABOURERS ARE FEW!

Memorise: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8
Read: Luke 10:1-9
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Bible in one year: Ezra 1-3, Matthew 5:21-42

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Prophet Isaiah had the rare privilege of having a vision where he witnessed what was going on in the palace of the Almighty God (Isaiah 6:1-8).
2. The setting he observed was a kind of conference with the hosts of heaven in attendance.
3. God threw a simple question to the multitudes present, which should ordinarily not be much of a challenge to them.
4. The Lord asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” The seemingly little hesitation that followed God’s question before Isaiah responded was not an act of rebellion by the angels or the hosts of heaven; rather, there was hesitation because this question was not meant for them. If angels were supposed to take up the assignment, it would have come as a command instead of a question. The privilege of disseminating the good news of the kingdom and propagating the gospel has been expressly assigned to human beings by God.
5. The term ‘evangelism’ therefore refers to spreading the gospel, and the one doing this work is called an ‘evangelist’.
6. The duty of an evangelist is to function as a spokesperson for the church in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.
7. Just as God was searching for someone to take up the assignment in today’s memory verse, He is still searching for faithful people who will relentlessly participate in spreading the gospel today. Will you say yes to Him?
8. The need for evangelists today is further amplified by these words of the Lord in Luke 10:2b: “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”
9. The gospel is needed more than ever before in this world of sin, where immorality pervades everywhere and the pursuit of worldly pleasures is taking over the church of God. God expects us to walk worthy of our calling and election as children of God (Ephesians 4:1-12). He has endowed each individual in the body of Christ with gifts to function in at least one of several offices, as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Therefore, it is not only pastors and altar ministers that are called to work in God’s vineyard.
10. Everyone who is genuinely born again is called to do the work of an evangelist by spreading the good news of the gospel all over the world (2 Timothy 4:5). Understanding this fact is very necessary if we desire to please God, fulfill our purpose on earth and receive the best from God.
11. Winning lost souls and making them disciples is the whole essence of Christianity.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Too many people are shying away from the call to service. Every believer should see themselves as a man on a mission with a mandate. We should work as a labourer together with God. 1 Corinthians 3:9-17 9 “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Our Lord Jesus Christ is our role model and He lived on earth doing the Father’s work without ceasing. We have been called to this great ministry also and He who called us has empowered us for the work. All we need to do is to step out and God will help us in Jesus name. We pray that God will grant Pastor E.A Adeboye greater strength for greater works in Jesus name.

Action Point: How many souls have you won to Christ this year? Open your mouth and allow God to fill it with words to those that are perishing.
Hymn
Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal of love;
Wake te immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, oh, won’t you believe it?
Wonderful story of love.
Chorus:
Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful, wonderful story of love.
Wonderful story of love;
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still He doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal-bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,
Wonderful story of love.
Wonderful story of love
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us, with those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,
Wonderful story of love.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, JULY 20TH 2018- YOUR LIFE IS BORROWED!

Memorise: But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried, and said, Alas, master! For it was borrowed. 2 Kings 6:5
Read: 2 Kings 6:1-7
1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 35-36, Matthew 4:23-5:20

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The sons of the prophets in today’s Bible text showed serious concern when they lost an axe head that they had borrowed. After doing their best to recover it without success, they thought it necessary to approach the man of God, Elisha, for assistance.
2. Unlike these men, many today are nonchalant in the way they handle other people’s property in their care, not bothering about the condition and welfare of such goods.
3. As a matter of fact, many people handle borrowed items in a way that exposes them to damage or loss, either because they don’t know their true value or they simply don’t care. This scenario mirrors the human life, which God gave to us to put to profitable use.
4. Do you know that your life is borrowed? What are you doing to ensure that your life is not being wasted? Have you been careless with your life because you didn’t know that it was borrowed and that the true owner will soon call for an audit?
5. It is well established truth in the Bible that we are living borrowed lives, and we will be requested to give proper account of all we have done with our lives at the appropriate time.
6. To this effect, without exempting anybody, Romans 14:12 says: “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Ecclesiastes 12:14 also echoes this truth saying, “For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
7. Every human being should get ready to give account to God because everything is set for the day of reckoning.
8. The story of the unprofitable servant, who was given one talent in Matthew 25:24-30, further emphasizes the importance of viewing life as a borrowed item that must be properly accounted for in due time. Learn from this servant who returned his talent without making any profit with it. He was seriously reprimanded and referred to as a wicked and slothful servant. His excuse for being unprofitable was not accepted. Rather, he was dispossessed of his talent, declared to be unprofitable and was thrown into outer darkness to weep and mourn forever.
9. Every talent, gift or natural endowment given to you by God should be seen as a divine investment to be carefully nurtured, proudly displayed and gainfully deployed in your daily life. How well are you using your life for Christ.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

L

iving each day with the consciousness that one day we shall give account to the master will help us caution ourselves in everything we do. Someday the owner of all we own will require it from us. May we never have reason to say had I known in Jesus name. We are daily blessed as we study the open heaven devotional. May God renew the strength of Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Action Point: Weigh yourself on God’s scale of profitability by taking stock of how you are using your divine endowments and comparative advantage for the advancement of God’s kingdom.
Hymn
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, JULY 19TH 2018- AFRAID OF THE DOUBLE

Memorise: Verily, Verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. John 14:12
Read: 2 Kings 2:1-15, Luke 7:20-22
And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
Luke 7:20-22
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 34, Matthew 4:1-22

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the context of today’s memory verse, the prospect of possessing a double portion anointing or doing “greater works” is somewhat scary and considered impossible by many. However, a prayerful consideration of the Master’s words in this verse will immediately highlight an important difference between Elisha’s experience and the Lord’s revelation here.
2. In 2 Kings 2:9, Elisha’s request was, “Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” The focus here is “thy spirit”, referring to Elijah’s anointing.
3. In contrast, the Lord’s focus in John 14:12 is not on having a greater portion of His anointing (which may be virtually impossible to bestow on mortal flesh for many reasons), but rather on doing His works.
4. We carry out the works of Jesus by gaining access to His anointing through His name (Acts 3:16). Therefore, we don’t need a huge amount of our own anointing to do greater works spoken of in John 14:12; we only need to call on Jesus by faith to gain access to His unlimited power, which is an anointing without measure (John 3:34). No wonder Jesus in Matthew 17:20 said: “……if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” Therefore, you should throw away every form of fear, doubt and unbelief in response to Jesus’ call to do greater works than He did.
5. Our Lord Jesus Christ was quite conscious of the weight of His words in John 14:12, and for this reason, He started His statement with emphasis, saying “verily, verily, I say unto you”.
6. When Jesus declared that His disciples would do greater works than He did, He meant that their works would have greater reach and impact on the wider world than His. He was not merely referring to miracles, signs and wonders, but to all aspects of what God had planned to do by the power of the Holy Spirit.
7. Part of the greater works involves taking the gospel beyond Jerusalem to all parts of the world.
8. It also involves miracles, signs and wonders of salvation, healing, deliverance, raising the dead and destroying the works of darkness wherever we go.
9. I therefore challenge you to recognize Jesus as the Miracle-Worker and see what He will do through you. The Lord does not expect you to do any of His works with your own power. In John 14:14 He said: “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it”
10. So, whenever you are faced with impossible situations in your life and in the lives of others, all you need to do is to call on the Name of Jesus. From today, whatever you decree on earth will be granted in heaven in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

What should be the desire of every believer in this dispensation of Holy Ghost should be power to perform miracles, sign and wonders. If the expectation of the one who gave us assignment is to do greater works than he did, what are we waiting for? “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”John‬ ‭14:12. May God bless and continually uphold Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please give me the grace to do greater works through the Name of Jesus
Hymn
I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
I need Thee every hour
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
I need thee every hour
Most Holy one;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, JULY 18TH 2018- GODFATHER OR GOD THE FATHER?

Memorise: It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Psalm 118:8-9
Read: John 5:1-9
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 32-33, Matthew 2:19-3:17

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the Jewish culture, a godfather is primarily a person who assists a father in performing the rite of circumcision by holding the child upon his knees. He also takes interest in the child’s welfare and plays the role of a father to the child.
2. In modern times, the concept of a godfather has become synonymous with the leader of a powerful criminal organization, especially the Mafia. In more general terms, a godfather is viewed as one who sponsors a person and who goes to great lengths to promote the interests of that person, often having something to gain for himself from this support.
3. A godfather will do everything in his power to fight for the interest of his protégé, including illegal actions like giving bribes or using political power and personal recognition to influence things in favour of the protégé.
4. For this reason, people of all ages, up and coming professionals, business people and even pastors go to great lengths to source for rich, famous and powerful individuals to play the role of godfathers in their lives. The questions the Spirit of the Lord is therefore asking you today is, are you seeking for a godfather or God the Father?
5. Looking to others for encouragement is not bad, but having godfathers will at the very last lead to partial dependence on a human being to achieve success. God views this as paying allegiance to ordinary man and a rejection of His ever present help.
6. He frowns at this attitude, and in Jeremiah 17:5, He has very strong words for anyone who depends on a human being for success: “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”
7. The Holy Spirit further highlights the futility and agony of anyone who places his or her confidence in man instead of Go further highlights the futility and agony of anyone who places his or her confidence in man instead of God, saying in Proverbs 25:19: “Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.”
8. Dependence on God to meet our political and physical needs arises out of an awareness of human helplessness and trust in God’s ability to do all things.
9. Note that the use of the word “princes” in today’s memory verse stands for godfathers. God alone is more than able, and He is very much willing to help His people to achieve their purpose and fulfill their destiny. Therefore, looking elsewhere for help is tantamount to rejecting God and paying homage to the arm of flesh which fails. I pray that God will hear your cry for help today and respond speedily in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Many believers out of favoritism and help from men have failed the one who created the heavens and the earth . They quickly forget that God created the person whom they consider as their godfather or whatever. Regardless of the help you get from your helper never you dare to place them as your God. Our God is a jealous God. Put your trust in Him, He’s dependable, reliable and faithful and you will never be disappointed.  Glory to God for the devotional from Pastor E A Adeboye.

Key Point: Whatever a man can give to you, a man can take away from you.
Hymn
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
Thy fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, JULY 17TH 2018- ADVERSITY CAN BE DECEPTIVE

Memorise: Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? Genesis 18:12
Read: Genesis 21:1-7
1 Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.
2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.
3 Abraham gave the name Isaac[a] to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.
5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
6 Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”
7 And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 30-31, Matthew 2:1-18

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One of the reasons why we Christians are so special is that we serve a God with whom nothing is impossible.
2. There is no such thing like a hopeless case with our God. In this regard, I have learnt many great and wonderful lessons in my time as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). By the grace of God, I have witnessed how God transformed His church from a humble beginning of about 40 small parishes in 1980 to where we are today all over the world.
3. I deliberately used word “witnessed”, because leaving my lecturing job at the university to become General Overseer of the RCCG at that time exemplified madness to most observers. More so, it wasn’t anything I did in particular growth experienced by the church over the years. I know that I cannot explain it; I only witnessed it like every other person. Obviously, it is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes (Mark 12:11).
4. Adversity can indeed be deceptive. Esther became an orphan at a very early age, and she was taken into captivity alongside her uncle, Mordecai. Life was truly looking bleak for her, but by God’s providence she became a queen in a foreign land (Esther 2). Joseph also was sold into slavery by his brothers out of envy, and he later found himself in prison for an offence he did not commit (Genesis 39-41). However, in spite of all this, he became the prime minister of the whole realm of the Egyptian empire. I pray that wherever you are on the ladder of life today, the power of God will move you to where he has destined you to be in Jesus’ Name.
5. Some years ago, the condition of a sick woman on admission in a hospital in Lagos got considerably worse, and the doctors told her family she had just few hours to live. On hearing this, her husband left her in the hospital and took his mistress to their matrimonial home. Unfortunately, for him, his wife was prayed for, and she got miraculously healed a few hours after he had left her in the hospital. He was shocked beyond words when she showed up unexpectedly at their home, interrupting his lustful escapade. This story may sound unbelievable, but it is a true story. I therefore decree that all those who think you are finished and those who think you cannot amount to anything in life will soon join you to celebrate your breakthrough in Jesus’ Name.
6. Paul and Silas were locked up in the inner prison and their feet were fastened in the stocks. They lost the freedom to do many things, but they were free to worship and pray to God. So, they decided to use the only freedom they had to the fullest. As they prayed and sang praises to God at midnight, there was a great earthquake that immediately transformed them into lords of their captors (Acts 16:22-34). What the Lord did for them, He will also do for you in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Have you concluded in your mind that there is no hope regarding your situation, today’s devotional is a reminder to you that the God we serve is able to restore even the dead. The Bible says “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭32:27‬ . Have trust in Him and you will not be disappointed. God bless and strengthen Pastor E A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please deliver me from every wicked scheme of the enemy today in Jesus’ Name
Hymn
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
Thy fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, JULY 16TH 2018- MORE THAN ENOUGH ACCOMODATION!

Memorise: For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1
Read: John 14:1-3
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 29, Matthew 1

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Our Lord Jesus Christ in today’s Bible reading assured us of His second coming. Indeed, He is coming to take us to be with Him, so that we may be where He is.
2. The size of our heavenly home is so large that it has taken over two thousand years to complete it, as the number of saints keeps increasing continually.
3. Considering the omnipotent power of the Most High to do all things, this may sound ridiculous; however, the ways of the Lord are unsearchable, and the prerogative of mysteries belongs to Him alone.
4. When dealing with mysteries such as this, all we need to do is believe and take Him by His word. Isn’t it wonderful that our Lord Jesus Christ in John 14:2 said: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
5. In other words, He does not want us to see our present place of abode here on earth as our final destination. He wants us to be mindful of a better place being prepared for us.
6. Those who are busy killing, stealing and embezzling funds in order to amass “mansions” for themselves here on earth are being foolish. Such people do not have an understanding of what is ultimately good for them.
7. Also, those who would not want to be born again because of the material things of this world do not know what they stand to lose in eternity. The truth is that there is enough room for everyone who is born again in the kingdom of God.
8. Those who teach that there is no heaven anywhere and that our heavenly mansions will be here on earth lack spiritual understanding of the Scriptures.
9. Jesus said if what He declared to us about our heavenly mansions was not true, He would have told us so. Aside from the fact that He cannot lie, He has no reason to tell a lie about this.
10. Faith in the promise led Paul to pen the words of today’s memory verse, where he referred to the anticipated replacement of our physical bodies and temporal places of abode with celestial bodies and heavenly mansions respectively. Unfortunately, those who miss out on the heavenly mansions being prepared by Jesus Christ will have their place in the devil’s abode, which is the lake of fire. There is no middle-way about it. My prayer for you today is that you will not miss your celestial body and heavenly mansion in Jesus’ Name. Your portion will not be in the lake of fire in Jesus’ Name.
11. For this prayer to be answered, accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and make sure you do not live or die with any un-confessed sin in your life.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:1-3‬ . In case you are troubled or wondering just like the disciples of Jesus Christ about heavenly inheritance, please meditate deeply on this verses.
Many people just focus on earthly things forgetting that their is a place more glorious. May the Lord open our eyes to see you the eternal glory. God be praised for Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.
Prayer Point: Father, my heart is set on my heavenly home; please don’t let me miss it. Grant me grace to lay aside any besetting sin that can prevent me from making heaven in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, JULY 14TH 2018- PATHWAY TO COMPLETE RESTORATION

Memorise: Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: Joel 2:12
Read: 2 Corinthians 7:8-11
8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 24-25, Acts 27:33-28:10

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The Bible teaches that any form of restoration must start with true repentance.
2. Repentance is a radical change of one’s thinking, personality and behavior from a state of rebellion against God’s commandments to obedience to God’s word.
3. A repentant person turns a new leaf through a new relationship with God, after attaining a new understanding of his or her nature and character.
4. Repentance is usually demonstrated by remorse, mourning over sin, weeping, wearing of sackcloth, making restitution for wrongs committed and humbling oneself before God. However, the emphasis must be on taking a new course in life that proceeds from a new relationship with God.
5. God always responds positively to a broken heart. Psalm 51:17 says: “The sacrifices of God are broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
6. In Joel 2:12, God specifically called His children to approach Him in repentance with fasting, weeping and mourning whenever they needed restoration, saying: “….turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:” God still honours genuine weeping and mourning in repentance. It is a pity that such open declarations of repentance are no longer “fashionable” in contemporary churches.
7. There are two aspects to true repentance: it looks upon the errors of the past with a weeping eye and unto the future with a watchful eye.
8. To fast, mourn and shed tears of sorrow because sin was the normal practice of the founding leaders of many Christian denominations. The wonderful effect of such expressions of deep genuine remorse for sin is that it usually marks a permanent departure from a sinful lifestyle.
9. Although repentant people may still fall into error in the future, sin and immorality cannot remain a lifestyle for them because they will not want to go through the experience of deep remorse again.
10. The determination to live in holiness therefore becomes their life ambition.
11. In contrast, those who come to God for salvation with levity, while chewing gum and chatting with friends, may not have given any deep thought to their sinful past and the implication of the decision they are making. Such people may not place much value on their salvation. They usually don’t take sanctification seriously and therefore stand the risk of falling back into sin.
12. How genuine is your repentance?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Today’s devotional is a call for genuine repentance from everyone who poses to be saved and redeemed but are untrue to themselves. God can never be deceived so we should nnot deceive ourselves either. May God continually uphold Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Action Point: Approach God with a broken and contrite heart in repentance over any secret sin you may be harboring in your heart.
Hymn
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Chorus:
Oh! Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
For my pardon this my pleas
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
Nothing can my sin erase
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
Naught of works, ‘tis all of grace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, JULY 13TH 2018- DOUBT & INDECISION

Memorise: But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. James 1:6
Read: 2 Kings 7:1-2, 2 Kings 7:16-20
1 Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
2 Kings 7:16-20
16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.
17 And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.
18 And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:
19 And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
20 And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 21-23, Acts 27:13-32

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Doubt and indecision reflect the inability of a person to make a choice between two opinions.
2. Doubt reveals the presence of an internal debate and a lack of conviction. It signifies double-mindedness and partial faith.
3. Doubt paralyses the ability of a person to make sound judgement on critical issues.
4. A person in doubt is therefore often a confused person, divided in opinion and at odds with himself or herself. Here is how the Holy Spirit describes the true condition of a doubter in James 1:8: “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
5. A person living in doubt may believe in the authority of God’s word, but somehow he or she thinks it’s impossible or uncertain that what God says in it would come to pass.
6. The harmful effect is that doubt moves from a divided attitude towards God’s promises to a wholesale questioning of God’s word itself.
7. Doubt is obviously responsible for many seemingly unanswered prayers and unfulfilled promises among believers.
8. Concerning a double-minded person, James 1:7 says: “For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” Consequently, anyone who lives in doubt may not receive anything from God. May the Lord destroy every spirit of doubt that has denied you the fulfillment of God’s promises in Jesus’ Name.
9. Disobedience to God introduces indecision and doubt into the life of a child of God who hitherto was walking in faith.
10. Sin robs us our confidence in God’s presence. You will observe that Adam and Eve hid themselves from God after they had sinned (Genesis 3:8-10).
11. Indecision and doubt may appear to be simple problems but they have devastating spiritual implications. In today’s Bible reading doubt cost an official of the king his life. Similarly, in Matthew 14:31, the Lord Jesus Christ identified doubt as the reason why Peter began to sink after he had walked towards Him on water. He would have drowned if the Lord had not stretched forth His hand to get him. These Biblical examples show us that doubting the word of God is so dangerous that it can lead to death. I pray that God will deliver you from the devastating effects of doubt in Jesus’ Name.
12. In 1 Kings 18:21, Elijah asked the Israelites an important question which I am also asking today: “How long halt ye between two opinions?”
13. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then believe in Him with all your heart. Stop wavering, and follow Him wholly. Do away with sin and be determined to pursue holiness for the rest of your life.
14. Share your salvation experience with others and tell them about the good things that God is doing in your life. It is well with you in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Prayer Point: Father, please completely destroy every root of doubt in my life in Jesus’ Name
Hymn
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He shed on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, JULY 12TH 2018- PROGRESSIVE BREAKTHROUGH

Memorise: And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: Genesis 26:13
Read: Mark 8:22-25
22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
Bible in one year: 2 Chronicles 19 – 20, Acts 26:24-27:12

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Our God works in diverse ways and He cannot be boxed into a pattern.
2. While He may choose to perform something instantaneously, He can also choose to do it in progressive stages.
3. The problem with modern day Christians is that they always want God to perform His work instantaneously, and for this reason, they end up falling for magic instead of experiencing the miracles of God. Speaking on Isaac, the Bible makes it clear that he did not become great over night; rather, he progressively increased and moved forward until he was declared to be very great (Genesis 26:13).
4. In contrast to this, what do we see in Christendom today? People are trying to experience a breakthrough that will make them great overnight. This has led to so many falling into diverse temptations of ill-gotten wealth and apostasies.
5. Some people don’t want God to take His time and course to bless them, and so they move away from Him and off they go to the devil, who promise to build them castles in the air like he did with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:4-5). In their search for instantaneous breakthrough by ungodly means, such people have shipwrecked their faith. May you never fall victim to the deception of “fast” and instantaneous breakthrough that has its roots in the kingdom of darkness in Jesus’ Name.
6. Do you know that there was a time when I could not afford to pay two naira to pass through a toll-gate while on a preaching assignment as a General Overseer? That was a phase God took us through in the ministry.
7. From that little beginning, to the glory of God, we now take the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world with the use of a private jet. However, this testimony manifested itself many years after I had surrendered my personal ambition to God and chose instead to preach the gospel.
8. Again, when I came into full-time ministry, I left a mansion for a tiny house in a slum, but the Almighty God promised me that He would build me a city. This promise of God is a reality today but it took so many years to manifest.
9. I assure you that whatever God has promised you shall come to pass if only you keep on trusting and waiting with expectation for the fulfillment of His promises.
10. Today’s Bible reading contains an example of God’s progressive work.
11. The lesson to learn from this is that God has innumerable ways of accomplishing His will in His created world and in the lives of His creatures. He does not only determine what He wants to do and when He will do it, He also determines the pace at which He will do it.
12. The good news I have for you today is that your breakthrough, which seems to be an illusion, is coming your way this season.
13. Irrespective of how long you have waited for your healing, this is the season of your complete restoration in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Progressive breakthrough is actually the intention of the creator of heavens and the earth for His children. But most Christians in this generation have failed to operate in this realm. Isaac waxed greatly in wealth because he was consistent and waited patiently. Infact, he obeyed the instruction of God “Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.”‭‭Genesis‬ 26:2-3.  How patient are you when it comes to promises of God for your life? God bless and strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye on every side in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please complete my restoration this season in Jesus’ Name
Hymn
(Tune: There shall be showers of blessing)
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sinners will soon be forgiven
Prodigals will come home soon.
Chorus:
Shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Rivers in desert now flowing
Halleluyah to our king.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sickness and sorrow will be gone
Bondage will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
The barren will be fruitful soon
Failure will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Poverty will be forgotten
Stagnancy will soon be gone.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
To all miracles are given
There shall be celebrations
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Many will have testimonies
Of prayers answered fully
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
One of us will chase a thousand
Two will conquer ten thousands.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Songs of praises we will sing
Halleluyah to our King.
