HYMN 26: TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE.
1. To God be the glory, great things he hath done:
so loved he the world that he gave us his son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done.

2. Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to ev’ry believer the promise of God.
The vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son,
but purer, and higher, and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2021. VICTORY OVER EVIL.

MEMORISE:
And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 2 Samuel 22:2

READ: Psalm 91:1-8
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

MESSAGE:
The Psalmist says in Psalm 125:1:
“They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.”

One point to be quickly noted about this Scripture is that it is only for those who put their trust in the Lord, not those who have alternatives to the Almighty God. Those who put their trust in God are immovable. This was David’s experience.

In the Bible text of today we see another dimension of divine protection over God’s people. This is food for thought for those who are still in doubt of God’s ability to protect to the very end. Some people are even afraid of prosperity because they feel they would be prone to enemy attacks when they prosper. They refuse to believe David’s assurance in Psalm 23:5 which says:
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

Not only did God prepare a sumptuous table for David. He filled his cup to the point of overflow just to show that He had more than enough to give to His beloved, as if that were not enough, it was done in the presence of David’s enemies and they could do nothing against it. The Almighty God who prospers us is also the One who protects and He has assured us that He will keep us at all times (Psalm 91:3.5).

David’s experiences- first with the lion, then the bear (1 Samuel 17:34-37) and later with Goliath (1 Samuel 17:49-51) are testimonies that should make any doubter believe that our God is Jehovah Nissi. This means He is the Banner that our covers and goes ahead of us to guarantee victory in every battle we face (Exodus 17:15).

Beloved, I am assuring you that if you put your trust in the Lord, your protection will be guaranteed, because our God never fails. He watches over His elect so that His name may not be blasphemed. The Lord fights on behalf of His elect and always ensures they are victorious over evil. Hence, your victory over evil is guaranteed, so long as you remain on God’s side and away from sin.

ACTION POINT:
Examine your life carefully to see where and how you may have exposed yourself to temptations, ask for God’s forgiveness and commit to living a sin-free life from now.

HYMN 1: ALL HALL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME.

1. All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!

2. Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!

3. Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!

4. Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2021. VICTORY OVER TEMPTATIONS II.

MEMORISE:
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

READ: James 4:7-10
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

MESSAGE:
Submission to the perfect will of God is a great weapon against trials and temptations. It is wisdom for us to submit to our Present Help in the time of trouble, according to Psalm 46:1. Our closest ally in the battle of life is Jesus Christ. The Bible says:
“ For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5

For us to overcome, we must submit ourselves to God, resist the devil and then he will flee from us (James 4:7). The Bibles says that pride goes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). Many people fall into temptation because of pride. Romans 13:3 says:
“For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:”

While pride makes people think they can survive this life without God, humility and sobriety are great instruments of defense in the face of temptations. We are encouraged to humble ourselves in the sight of God so that He can lift us. However, people easily fall into trials and temptations because of their failure to live soberly in this perverse generation. James 1:14-15 says “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished bringeth forth death”. The Bibles goes further in 1 Timothy 6:9-19 says:
“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil…..”

Beloved, to overcome trials and temptations, you must run to Jesus today with a sober heart, humility and the fear of the Lord. He will surely come to your aid, in the name Jesus.

ACTION POINT:
Examine your life carefully to see where and how you may have exposed yourself to temptations, ask for God’s forgiveness and commit to living a sin-free life from now.

HYMN 28: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.
