OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL Sunday 13TH FEBRUARY 2022 TWO-SIDED FORGIVENESS

MEMORISE
”Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
Psalm 32:1

READ: 1Pe 3:6-7
6 Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose children you became, doing good and fearing no terror.

7 Likewise, husbands, live together according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel, the female, as truly being co-heirs together of the grace of life, not cutting off your prayers.

MESSAGE
Forgiveness is the term used to indicate pardon for a fault or offence. It signifies the liberation of a person from guilt and its consequences, including punishment. It usually comes as an act of favour, compassion or love, with the aim of restoring a broken relationship. It may involve both the cancellation of punishment and debts. God forgives the sins of Christians out of love, based on the sacrifice offered by Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. By this, sins are no longer held against children of God, according to Romans 3 :25, Acts 13 : 38 – 39 and 1John 1 :6 – 9. The sinner is thus, by this act of grace, forever freed from the guilt and penalty of sin.

This act of forgiveness is offered freely to everyone through the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Anybody can access the forgiveness of God by meeting three basic conditions: genuine repentance (remorse for all sins committed), confession of such sins unto God, and believing that Jesus is the Son of God who, by the shedding of His blood and death on the cross, has washed all such sins.

As God has showed us unmerited love, mercy and grace in wiping away all our sins through the blood of Jesus, He commands us to do the same: to love our neighbours and keep no record of sin against our fellow men. This is where the necessity of two-sided forgiveness comes in. As a matter of fact, God expects us to live by the principle of forgiveness, with the understanding that, in order to receive forgiveness from Him, we must in turn, be ready to forgive others (Luke 6 : 37). In the same manner, Ephesians 4 : 32 says “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you”.

Unforgiveness deprives us of divine forgiveness and blessings. In contrast, forgiveness leads to peace, reconciliation, healing, unity, progress, joy, prosperity, and answered prayers.

Settle all unresolved disputes you may have with everyone, even if you were the offended party. Let the love of God shine through you to others and become a dispenser of the abundant grace and mercy of God.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please grant me the grace to forgive others, so that I also may receive mercy and forgiveness in Jesus name

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL Saturday 12TH FEBRUARY 2022 PRAISE MOVES GOD

MEMORISE
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for possession, so that you might speak of the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1Peter 2:9

READ: Act 16:25-26
25And toward midnight Paul and Silas prayed and praised God in a hymn. And the prisoners listened to them.

26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened and all the bonds were loosened.

MESSAGE
Praise is probably the most potent weapon of any kind in the whole universe. Apart from the fact that God created man primarily for the purpose of showing forth His praise (Isaiah 43:21), It is capable of moving God into action beyond our wildeslt imagination.

A leper praised God in Matthew 8:1 – 4; he was instantly healed of his leprosy. David the shepherd boy wrote poems and sang praises to God; the Lord miraculously appointed him to sit on the throne of Israel. The army of Israel sang praises to God and the wall of Jericho fell flat before them in Joshua 6:20, King Jehoshaphat and the people of Israel praised God in the beauty of His holiness in 2 Chronicles 20 : 20 – 25, and God set an ambush against their enemies to destroy them completely. Paul and Silas sang praises to God in the prison; Acts 16 : 25 – 26 says “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praise unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed”. Such is the power of praise. As you praise God today, the hosts of heaven will move on your behalf, in Jesus’ name.

We can be provoked to praise God like in the above examples by learning a few things from them. They were motivated to praise God by three important factors: the knowledge of God, the vision of God, and the past miracles that God had done in their midst. With our focus on these three factors, the power of praise will always fill our hearts. Above all, praise usually leads to divine intervention. People are lifted by praising God. Praise always turns problems to stepping stones, tests to testimonies and trials to triumphs. When people praise God, obstacles give way to miracles, attacks give birth to attractions and disappointments give way to divine appointments.

You must note however, that you can only be qualified to praise God acceptably if you are genuinely born again and consecrated to Him. Surrender your life to Jesus today if you haven’t done so and never stop praising Him from now.

God bless you.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please let the power of praise begin to manifest in my life, in Jesus name.

HYMN 17: Oh Lord My God, When I in Awesome Wonder

1. Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Refrain
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

2. And when I think that God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

3. When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY 11TH FEBRUARY 2022 COMMIT YOUR DESTINY INTO GOD’S HANDS

MEMORISE:
“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:”
Ephesians 1:11

READ: Romans 8:28-31.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

MESSAGE
Destiny speaks of the event that will necessarily happen to a person in life. Though the word was not expressly used in the Bible, we see various passages that describe God choosing different people for specific callings or assignments. According to Genesis 18:18-19, God said; “Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”
In Jeremiah, God said He had ordained Jeremiah a prophet, even from the womb. The Almighty God is a God of plan and purposes; He is always at work to secure His children’s destinies, though behind the scene in a patient way that respects human choices and natural processes. For example, Esther had the choice of rejecting her preordained role of saving the Jews, but chose to accept it. Esther 4:14 “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Please note that what could be considered an error on the part of Abraham by fathering Ishmael turned out to be instrumental to the fulfillment of God’s covenant with him, as it was the Ishmaelites who took Joseph to the place of destiny fulfillment.(Genesis 37:26-28). That is why the Bible in Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” For this reason, you must hand over your destiny to the Lord.

To fulfill destiny, you must be upright and God-fearing, forgiving people just as Joseph readily forgave his brothers. As we see in our Bible reading today, all things work together for good to those who love God and called according to His good purpose.

Hand over your destiny to God now, and you would certainly have a glorious future.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please work all things out for me, according to the counsel of Your will, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 16: O God Our Help in Ages Past.

1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home:

2. Beneath the shadow of thy throne,
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting thou art God,
To endless years the same.

4: A thousand ages in thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

6. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guide while troubles last,
And our eternal home!

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY 10TH FEBRUARY 2022 THE WIND OF CHANGE

MEMORISE:
“Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.” Ezekiel 37:9

READ: Exodus 14:21-28
21And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

22And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,

25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.

26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.

28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

MESSAGE
The wind of change is a term commonly used to describe breakthrough and blessings of great significance. However, it has a much deeper meaning in Christendom. The wind is an invisible force endowed with the capacity to accomplish unbelievable things. A seemingly harmless wind could become highly empowered to bulldoze anything in its path when it graduate into a storm.

The wind therefore symbolizes the move of God. It is usually called into action whenever God wants to accomplish great things. In Exodus 14:21 “……the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.” In Numbers 11:31 “…..there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.” Also, in Ezekiel 37:9, the Lord commanded Ezekiel saying, “………Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. In verse 10, Ezekiel said, “So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.”

It is therefore clear from the above examples that when the wind of God blow there will be a way where there was none, as it happened in Exodus14:21-28. There will be restoration of life according to Ezekiel 37:5-10, and there will be abundant provision as seen in Numbers 11:31. Also, there will be deliverance in line with Acts 16:26, and divine promotion as in 1 Samuel 16:12-13; “……..And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward….”

The wind of God can, however produce negative results for disobedient people, as seen in Jonah 1:1-2. As you surrender your life to God in holiness and righteousness, in total obedience to His commandments, He will cause the wind of change to blow in your favor, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please let the wind of change blow in my favor today in Jesus name.

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 9TH FEBRUARY 2022 THE BENEFITS OF AFFLICTIONS

MEMORISE
For the lightness of our present affliction works out for us a far more excellent eternal weight of glory, 2Corinthians 4:17

READ: Judges 6:1-10
1And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah. And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

2And the hand of Midian was strong against Israel. Before the faces of Midian, the sons of Israel made themselves dens in the mountains, and caves and strongholds.

3And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the sons of the east, even they came up against them.

4And they camped against them and destroyed the increase of the earth, until you come to Gaza. And they left no food for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

5For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as locusts for multitude, both they and their camels were without number. And they entered into the land to destroy it.

6And Israel was made very poor because of the Midianites. And the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah.

7And it happened, when the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah because of the Midianites,

8Jehovah sent a man, a prophet to the sons of Israel, who said to them, So says Jehovah, the God of Israel: I brought you up from Egypt and brought you forth out of the house of bondage.

9And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you and gave you their land.

10And I said to you, I am Jehovah your God. Do not fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But you have not obeyed My voice.

MESSAGE
Afflictions are situations that we typically pray against. Interestingly however, afflictions have their benefits in the life of a person. One of the typical benefits of afflictions is that they draw men back to God, especially when faced with challenges they cannot surmount by themselves. In our Bible reading today, we see the afflictions of the children of Israel at the hands of the Midianites and Amalekites. These two nations attacked Israel successfully from time to time, causing them to suffer greatly. These afflictions drew the Israelites back to the God of their fathers, who they had neglected for strange gods, as we see in Judges 6:7:

“And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,”

God was then able to speak to them through His prophet whom they would not have listened to but for the affliction. The Lord reminded them that He was still their God, far superior to the gods of the Amorites and the gentiles among whom they were living.

One lesson to learn from this fall of Israel is that serving other gods will always bring affliction. Also, the environment in which a person lives or operates could lead to a departure from serving God. Many of the sound doctrines we cherished in the past have been trashed due to globalization and our contact with the Amorites, Canaanites and Jebusites of the present age. This has led to many ungodly practices among believers. This in turn causes grave afflictions. Sicknesses that were not mentioned among the believers before are now commonplace. For example, where would high blood pressure come from when a believer’s life is full of joy and the peace of God? A believer of old did not compete with the so-called rich people of the world and would seek God’s counsel before engaging in any enterprise. Believers ought to be led by the Holy Spirit on what line of business they should pursue. Failure to do this leads to loss of peace and rest of mind.

The COVID-19 pandemic is also a case in point on how afflictions can draw people to God.. All thanks to God as the Church is now retracing her steps to the old rugged way of peace and joy. May the Lord help us, in Jesus’ mighty name.

PRAYER POINT.
Father, heal our backsliding as a church; have mercy on us and send Your salvation in the mighty name of Jesus.

1. Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Refrain:
Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

2. Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.

3. Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

4. Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue.

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2022 LIVING IN GLORY V

MEMORISE
“But upon Mount Zion shall be those who escaped; and it shall be holy. And the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions.” Obadiah 1:17

READ: Mar 5:1-15
1 And they came over to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes.

2And when He had come out of the boat, immediately a man with unclean spirits met Him out of the tombs,

3who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one could bind him, no, not with chains

4because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nor could anyone subdue him.

5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying and cutting himself with stones.

6And when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshiped Him,

7and cried with a loud voice, and said, What is to me and to You, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I adjure You by God not to torment me.

8For He said to him, Come out of the man, unclean spirit!

9And He asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion, for we are many.

10And he begged Him very much that He would not send them outside the country.

11And a great herd of pigs was feeding near the mountains.

12And all the demons begged Him, saying, Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.

13And immediately Jesus allowed them. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the pigs. And the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea (they were about two thousand), and were choked in the sea.

14And the ones who fed the pigs fled and told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15And they came to Jesus and saw him who had been demon-possessed, and had the legion, sitting and clothed and right-minded, the one who had the legion. And they were afraid.

MESSAGE
Bondage is the condition of being dominated by sin-fleshly lusts, or demonic powers. Bondage refers to any situation contrary to God’s plan and purpose for man, according to Genesis 1:27– 28. It is anything that binds a fellow in the torment of fear (Hebrews 2: 15). Bondage of any kind has one purpose – to shame and disgrace. Incidentally, bondage is usually not forced, as we see in the case of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1–19). People usually become enslaved through the wrong choices they make in life. Consequently, many live by choice under the control of demonic powers, hard drugs and other forms of addiction like money, alcohol, sex, and worldly pleasures, without any idea that they are in bondage. That is why 2 Peter 2:19 says:
“…. for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

Furthermore, Romans 6 : 16 says: “Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

No matter what you are passing through, you can make a decision now that will change the course of your life forever. All you need to do is reject sin and evil, then embrace God and righteousness.

There is nothing glorious about living in bondage. Physical bondage includes poverty, sickness, failure, a sinful lifestyle, and addictions. Spiritual bondage includes demonic possession, being remotely controlled or tied down, being under the influence and experiencing situations that are not observable or physically explicable, as seen in the case of the mad man of Gadara in our Bible reading today. The good news is that Jesus came to this world for the purpose of restoring freedom to man in line with John 10 : 10 and Luke 4 : 18.

As you reject Satan and submit to Jesus today, He will make you whole and deliver you completely form all forms of bondage, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please deliver me from everything blocking the manifestation of Your glory in my life in Jesus name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 24-26

HYMN 12: My Faith Looks Up to Thee.

1. My faith looks up to thee
Thou Lamb of Calvary
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray
Take all my guilt away
O let me from this day
Be wholly thine!

2. May thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart
My zeal inspire!
As thou hast died for me
O may my love to thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be
A living fire!

3. When life’s dark maze I tread
And griefs around me spread
Be thou my guide
Bid darkness turn to day
Wipe sorrow’s tears away
Nor let me ever stray
From thee aside

4. When ends life’s transient dream
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll
Blest Savior, then in love
Fear and distrust remove
O bear me safe above
A ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY 6TH FEBRUARY 2022 LIVING IN GLORY III

MEMORISE:
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will 40not cease. Job 14:7

READ: Luke 7:36-48.
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

MESSAGE
From the time of creation to date, sin or disobedience to God has been the greatest mistake man has ever made. God frowns at all sin no matter how we choose to categorize them. It is bad enough when sin is committed from time to time, even in ignorance. However, it becomes even worse when sinfulness becomes a lifestyle. The Bible refers to such people as stiff-necked, reprobate, unrepentant sinners, backsliders, or children of perdition. Living in sin is so abominable to God that it carries the ultimate penalty. That is why Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

There is nothing glorious in living a sinful lifestyle. The following Bible passages speak volumes about God’s hatred for sin. Psalms 104:35 “Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more….” Isaiah 3:11 also says, “Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.” Ecclesiastes 8:13 “But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.” Finally, Hosea 4:7 also says, “As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.”

God’s view of sin and its judgement against sinners is clearly revealed in the above bible passages. Hence, separation from God which is spiritual death, termination of life which is physical death, condemnation to eternity in hell which is the second death and other terrible consequences, awaits everyone living in sin in this world. I am therefore appealing that you come to Jesus today and be converted, so that you may receive help to stop living a sinful lifestyle.

In today’s Bible reading, the woman seemed to know that coming to Jesus would transform her life positively. She was unwavering in her pursuit of the Savior, and in return for her seeds of love, she reaped mercy and pardon. Whosoever come to Jesus shall not be disappointed. Come to Jesus today!

PRAYER POINT
Father, please set me totally free from sin by Your grace and mercy in Jesus’ name.

OPEN HEAVEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY 5TH FEBRUARY 2022 LIVING IN GLORY II

MEMORISE:

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Psalms 37:25

READ: Genesis 26:12-14
12Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

MESSAGE
Glory is a shame terminator. Wherever the glory of God is present, shame will never be found there. Hence, anything that is shameful embarrassing and humiliating, such as sickness, poverty, a sinful lifestyle, backsliding, bondage, and failure, should not be identified with children of God.

Poverty is closely associated with hunger, nakedness, homelessness, begging for alms, and wandering. Indeed, poverty is evil, and it has a way of dehumanizing people. However, being a child of God or attending church services or programms does not automatically cast away poverty. To be free from poverty, you must be completely obedient to God. In today’s bible reading, Isaac was determined to pursue greener pasture in Egypt in order to escape the terrible famine in the land. The Lord however warned him not to take that step, then showed him where he should dwell. Isaac obeyed and God blessed him greatly, as we see in Genesis 26:12-14:
“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.”

In essence, the bible is saying that Isaac reaped the fruit of obedience. Furthermore, to be free from poverty, one must be diligent in business. Despite God’s promises of abundant blessings in Genesis 26:3, Isaac did not fold his hands, waiting for the miracles. He cultivated, sowed, and labored hard on the field, then the Lord fulfilled his promise by blessing his labor. Also, we must persevere in the face of obstacles on our way to achieving our success. There is always an interval between sowing and reaping. It is usually a period when obstacles and challenges come at you from every angle; perseverance is highly required to overcome.

Finally, you must not be robber of God’s tithes, first fruit and offerings. Obedience in all things is needed to live a glorious life free of poverty, shame, and all sorts of evil put together.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please let your glory fill me and set me free from poverty in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 25: TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE.
1. To God be the glory
Great things He has done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that all may go in

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
Come to the Father
Through Jesus the Son
Give Him the glory
Great things He has done

2. perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives

3. Great things He has taught us, great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our worship, when Jesus we see
