OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, MAY 12TH 2018- DECISION-MAKING I

Memorise: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your father served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house. We will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Read: Ruth 1:11-18
11 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;
13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord is gone out against me.
14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law.
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 29-31, James 5

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Are you presently at any life’s crossroads? God expects that your decisions would be the end-result of a process of reflection on the available choices before you, informed and sustained by a concern to please Him. You therefore need guidance from the Holy Spirit before making up your mind on any issue, especially the difficult ones.
2. Our loving Father has provided assistance for our decision-making process through the Holy Spirit, the Scriputures, individuals and the natural world around us. In Joshua chapter 24, the All-knowing God knew the Israelites would soon have to make the conscious decision of either serving Him or the gods of the nations around them. He therefore presented His case on why they should serve Him by reminding them of how He brought Abraham their father out of his native land, across the river, into the Promised Land.
3. He further recounted how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt and took them through the wilderness with miracles, signs and wonders attending every aspect of their journey. The Lord then announced to them that if they found it difficult to serve Him wholeheartedly after everything He had done for them, they were free to choose whom they would serve. However, Joshua immediately answered for himself that he and his family would serve the Lord.
4. Why would God give His people the option of serving other gods?
5. The truth of the matter is, our God’s leadership is not authoritarian or forceful. He will tell you His rules and regulations, and make His position on issues very clear. He will also reveal what awaits you in the future based on the choices you make today.
6. You can be sure that He will allow you to have your way, and He will also give you the opportunity to exercise your free will. However, you must be ready to accept the repercussions of your choices and take responsibility for our actions at the end of it all.
7. If you are a good student of the Bible, you will observe that each time anyone acted contrary to God’s warning, they always suffered terribly for it.
8. For example, contrary to God’s warning, Israel decided to have a king instead of letting God lead them through His prophets. They turned deaf ears to God’s warning in 1 Samuel 8:18 and they suffered terribly for it in the hands of Solomon and the succeeding kings. Rather than act in defiance to God’s instructions, it is always better to heed His counsel.
9. Be ready to reason with God in His word and through prayers, and you will be rewarded with divine direction that will lead to your breakthrough (Isaiah 1:18).

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

We must choose to do God’s will and go in the direction He has predestined for us in every decision we make. It is however clear that this can be possible only through the help of Holyspirit. May our decisions make and not mar us in Jesus name. God be praised for Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to always act according to Your will and to remain in Your favour in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, MAY 11TH 2018- SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY

Memorise: Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2

Read: 1 Corinthians 2:9-16
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 26-28, James 3:13-4:17

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the physical realm, sensitivity can be viewed from the perspective of a deep feeling of love and compassion for a person, which usually translates to a commensurate level of understanding for that person’s interest.
2. In the spiritual realm however, sensitivity is a quality of life generated by the Spirit of God. It is the ability to perceive and respond to the call of God or the spiritual demands of the moment.
3. A lack of spiritual sensitivity affects the physical and spiritual well-being of God’s children and must be avoided at all costs. Beginning from today, your spiritual antennae will begin to receive heavenly signals in the Name of Jesus.
4. Concerning spiritual sensitivity, 1 Corinthians 2:14 says, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” From this verse, we understand that spiritual sensitivity is a grace that comes from living under the control of the Holy Spirit. Are you spiritually sensitive?
5. In Isaiah 11:3b, the Holy Spirit painted a picture of our spiritual nature, which is fashioned after Christ, saying: “… and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:”
6. Our Lord Jesus Christ manifested this nature in John 4:17-19 and in several other passages of the gospels. Because we are fashioned after Him, we ought to walk as He walked.
7. Spiritual sensitivity was Jesus’ lifestyle, and so, any Christian that is not spiritually sensitive will not walk in the reality of the abundant life that he or she possesses.
8. Without spiritual sensitivity, a person is bound to depend on suspicion, natural intelligence, educational awareness and the natural senses. These are all deficient in receiving the things of God.
9. Without spiritual sensitivity, Abraham would have missed his blessing and the opportunity to save Lot and his family from destruction (Genesis 18:1-33), of a lifetime (Judges 13:3-25), and the great Prophet Samuel would have anointed the wrong person as king over Israel (1 Samuel 16:4-13).
10. When decisions are made based on physical evidence alone, no matter how incontrovertible the evidence may seem, there is still always the possibility of miscarriage of justice.
11. This has wrongly sent people to prison and even death. I pray that your spiritual sensitivity will become sharpened today in Jesus’ Name

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

When we fellowship with the Holy Spirit often, we condition our spirit to hear from God easily. We are in sync with God and the Holyspirit which gives us the opportunity to know the hidden. It is therefore profitable for us to stay holy and fellowship often with the Holyspirit so as to enjoy deep knowledge of God and His will for us. May God bless and continually strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:
Father, I want to be vibrant for You; please set me on fire for You today in Jesus’ Name
Hymn
Nearer, my God, to Thee;
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
Though, like a wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that Thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, MAY 10TH 2018- THE GREATEST ALLY IN BATTLE

Memorise: Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you. 2 Chronicles 20:17

Read: Exodus 17:8-15
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 24-25, James 2:14-3:12

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Jehovah-Nissi is a name of the Lord that has its roots in Exodus 17:15. After Joshua and the Israelites had defeated the Amalekites at Rephidim, Moses erected an altar to commemorate this victory and He called it “Jehovah-Nissi”, which means “Yahweh is my banner”. In other words, he was saying “the Lord is my banner of victory.”
2. This name is a call to God’s people to rally around God as an army gathers around its banner, because God is the One who leads us to victory.
3. To understand the significance of the name Jehovah-Nissi, we need to remind ourselves that the devil is constantly waging spiritual battles against us.
4. While the forces of darkness vigorously pursue newly converted Christians in order to obstruct their spiritual progress, they are also on the look-out for any opportunity to pull mature Christians down. However, in spite of these aggressive attacks of the enemy, God expects us to rejoice, knowing fully well that although the battle may be fierce, the Lord of hosts and the Captain of our salvation is in our midst leading the charge against the enemy’s camp. In Matthew 28:20 He said: “….lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
5. As Jehovah-Nissi, God is concerned about the devil’s roars and attempts to harass and intimidate His children (1 Peter 5:8).
6. To assure and comfort our hearts, His attitude towards this ploy of the enemy was manifested in Judges 15:14: “And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms because as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.”
7. The enemy’s roars and shouts against us always trigger a response from the Holy Spirit living inside us. No wonder Isaiah 59:19b says, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”
8. God has zero tolerance for the enemy’s harassment and threats against His children, whom He bought with the precious blood of His Son, Jesus. With this understanding, you will realize that our God is the greatest ally you can have in the battle of life.
9. The Almighty God is Jehovah-Nissi, the Lord our Banner, and He is the Lord of hosts. Therefore, the battle is not yours but His.
10. Always be conscious of the reality of the Lord as Jehovah-Nissi in your life.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Today’s devotional clearly explained to us that God is our ever present help in time of need and that with Him victory is sure in every battle. If anyone claims to be His but yet such looses all the time in battle, such person should make his or her way right with the Lord. May God continually increase Pastor E.A Adeboye on every side in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:
Father, You are my Jehovah-Nissi, please respond to every roaring threat of the enemy against me in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
My faith look up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!
May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh. May my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!
While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, MAY 9TH 2018- WEAPONS OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Memorise: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

Read: Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 2-23, James 1:19-2:13

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12.
2. The above scripture clearly shows us that Satan and his fallen angels are organized into a well-coordinated army that is skillful in carrying out devastating attacks on their victims.
3. We must therefore be strategic and confront them from a position of knowledge and strength.
4. Although our spiritual warfare is personal, we must not engage in it on the basis of our individual effort or strength. We must continually channel the strength of God and the victory we have through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus against the forces of darkness for as long as we live.
5. Our fight of faith calls for courage to withstand dreadful circumstance, determination to overcome at all costs and persistent prayers.
6. It also calls for loyalty to fight under the banner of Christ, the Lord of hosts, standing in His strength and using the weapons He has provided. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;)” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4
7. The Holy Spirit inspired these verse of scripture to help us have a good understanding of the true nature of spiritual warfare and the potency of our God-ordained weapons, even though they may appear ordinary to many.
8. We are commanded in Ephesians 6:11 & 13 to “put on” and “take on” the whole armour of God.
9. What makes up the complete armour of God?
10. According to today’s Bible reading, the number one component of this armour is Truth, which refers to Jesus Himself (John 14:6). Next is holiness and righteousness, and then comes the gospel of peace, faith in God, salvation, the word of God, persistent prayers, and finally, watching and perseverance.
11. The Bible assures us that when these weapons are complete, they are effective in pulling down the strongholds of the devil, casting down every imagination of the enemy that is contrary to the purpose of God, and bringing into captivity every thought and device to the obedience of Christ.
12. Our duty is to ensure that we put on the whole armour of God and use it to resist the kingdom of darkness.
13. We know we are victorious because the Lord of hosts Himself has already perfected our victory.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

A number of things has been spelt out by our father in the Lord Pastor E.A Adeboye in today’s devotional. These things represent our weapons of warfare. I enjoin us to pick these weapons one after the other and examine ourself to ascertain our status as regards each. Without our spiritual armour fight in all ramifications is prone to failure. May we never fail in Jesus name. We are grateful to God for blessing us with Pastor E.A Adeboye. May he wax stronger in Jesus name.

Action Point:
Rebuke the devil in the Name of the Lord and resist his attacks in every area of your life.
Hymn
Onward Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.
Christ, the royal Mater,
Leads against the fore;
Forward into battle,
See, His banners go!
Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus,
Going on before.
At the name of Jesus
Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise:
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!
Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God:
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided,
All one Body we___
One in faith and Spirit,
One eternally.
Crowns and thrones may perish,
Kingdoms rise and wane;
But the church of Jesus
Constant will remain
Gates of hell can never
‘Gainst the Church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise,
Which can never fail.
Onward, then, ye people!
Join our happy throng;
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honour
Unto Christ, the King;
This through countless ages
Men and angels sing.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, MAY 8TH 2018- SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Memorise: Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. Hebrews 12:4

Read: 2 Timothy 2:16-19
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 20-21, James 1:1-18

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Spiritual warfare is the fight or resistance and enforcement against the forces of evil (John10:10). Although not discernible to a lot of people, this is a constant ongoing occurrence in the realm of the spirit (Luke 10:18).
2. Spiritual warfare has it origin in the rebellion of Satan and his allied angels against God (Isaiah 14:12-15, Revelation 12:7-9).
3. Satan is the prince of this world, and he leads a coalition of forces against God and anything connected to His purpose on earth. It is therefore important to note that mankind is the target of his attacks, regardless of religious affiliation, academic qualification, gender, age, culture or tribe. For this reason Revelation 12:12 says, “….Woe to the inhibiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath..”
4. Many people do not accept this truth, and so they fall prey to the tricks of the enemy to make them oblivious to his activities.
5. When people begin to seek for natural or scientific solutions to a spiritual problem, it is bound to end in total failure. However, all thanks be to God, because the Lord Jesus has defeated and destroyed the devil through His death and resurrection.
6. As a child of God, your responsibility is to enforce the victory won by Christ and utilize the enormous power He has vested in you against the tricks of Satan and his demonic angels (Ephesians 1:18-23).
7. If you do not recognise who you are as a child of God and enforce your position in Christ against these evil forces, they will end up robbing you of what is rightfully yours.
8. As Christians, we are involved in a fight of faith to live in the reality of the victory that Christ has won and given to us over the devil, the world system and the flesh (Hebrews 2:14-15, 1 John 5:4, Galatians 5:24).
9. Satan deploys his attacks on Christians from two major fronts. He empowers the world system to attack and work against Christians externally through persecution, deception and seduction. He also attacks us internally by using the weaknesses of the natural body we currently possess to try to frustrate our commitment to serving God fully.
10. The primary focus of the devil’s strategy is to entice us into sin, so as to break our fellowship with God. Jesus is our perfect example. He came into this world to destroy the works of the devil and to show us how to live above sin. He went through trials and temptation like we are facing today and yet He did not sin (Hebrews 4:15). He therefore expects us to be determined to resist sin, no matter the cost.
11. Our loving and compassionate Father has perfected the mechanism to assist us to triumph over the wicked attacks of the devil, but He expects us to resist the temptation to sin with everything we have and not to fall prey to the antics of the devil like weaklings (1 Corinthians 10:13).

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

The devil’s plan is to destroy the relationship between God and His children through sin. But this having been revealed unto us should be treated seriously as we take caution through the help of the Holy Spirit. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:8‭-‬11 May God bless and continually strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Action Point:
Assess every area of life where you’ve been falling like a weakling and ask God for grace to triumph.
Hymn
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished
And Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The rumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger.
And strength to strength oppose.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
Ye dare not trust your won
Put on the Gospel armor,
And, watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long:
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, MAY 7TH 2018- WHEN REVIVAL COMES

Memorise: As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1-2

Read: Jonah 3:1-10
1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 18-19, Hebrews 13

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Today we will be concluding our reflection on revival by considering the multiple blessings that it brings.
2. After a people have sincerely repented of their sins, turned from their evil ways to the way of righteousness and humbled themselves in prayer, God always responds by showing mercy and sending revival to them.
3. Revival does not only mean the salvation of souls; there are certain other blessings that always accompany it also.
4. When revival comes, not only will people be converted to Christ, the whole quality of life in the immediate community, surrounding environment or even the nation at large will be improved.
5. As a result of revival, ungodly and unfriendly cultural practices are abandoned and idolatrous cultural practices are forsaken.
6. I have often shared this testimony that before the arrival of our church at the site of the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, it used to be the den of armed robbers, members of the occult and dangerous animals. The neighboring communities were largely traditionalist and exposed to the little or no Christian influence. The revival that started when we arrived at this site immediately turned the Redemption Camp to a place of refuge for our immediate neighbours and travellers on the expressway. By the grace of God, the Redemption Camp has now gained worldwide recognition as a place of refuge to all nations of the world.
7. When revival comes, heaven comes down to earth and supernatural things begin to happen among men.
8. Brethren, the anger of the Lord pending against unrepentant sinners is not endurable (Psalm 85:4-6, Hebrews 10:31).
9. Only a fool will challenge God to a fight or wait for Him to execute His judgement (Isaiah 45:9).
10. Only revival can restore the genuine joy of salvation that material things of life cannot produce (Revelation 3:17-18).
11. Revival also causes recognition of the need to effect character change for good, a rejection of one’s sinful lifestyle, and a renewed sense of responsibility.
12. A revived soul immediately feels the need to share his or her testimony with others who are still living in sin and are desperately in need of the saving power of the gospel.
13. A truly revived person begins to hunger and thirst for the increased knowledge of God’s word and for fellowship with God in holiness and righteousness (Psalm 42:1-2). True revival is contagious.
14. The new nature of holiness, peace and joy that revival brings spreads from individuals to the family, the Church of God, the community and the nation at large. This automatically leads to a great increase in soul-winning, reduced criminal activities, a peaceful society, abolition of ungodly laws, promotion of ideas that lead to real growth and sustained development.
15. True revival turns the average human society to a model of heaven on earth.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Please check back for this part of the devotional few hours to the due date. God bless.
Prayer Point:
Father, please pour out Your revival on every society that has turned its back on you.
Hymn
(Tune: There shall be showers of blessing)
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sinners will soon be forgiven
Prodigals will come home soon.
Chorus:
Shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Rivers in desert now flowing
Halleluyah to our king.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sickness and sorrow will be gone
Bondage will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
The barren will be fruitful soon
Failure will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Poverty will be forgotten
Stagnancy will soon be gone.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
To all miracles are given
There shall be celebrations
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Many will have testimonies
Of prayers answered fully
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
One of us will chase a thousand
Two will conquer ten thousands.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Songs of praises we will sing
Halleluyah to our King.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, MAY 6TH 2018- BRINGING DOWN REVIVAL II

Memorise: Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. Ezekiel 3:17

Read: Nehemiah 8:1-10
1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 17, Hebrews 12:3-29

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the past two days, we have examined what causes the need for revival and the divine template God has established for obtaining revival from heaven.
2. The question we will be considering today is this: Does the Church of the 21st century need revival? I strongly believe the answer to this question is yes.
3. You may wonder why I believe so. When you critically look around you with the eye of the spirit, you will observe several things that have resulted in the Church falling short of the glory of God in this modern generation. You will also observe that it is increasingly becoming difficult to uphold biblical principles in the public arena in many nations of the world, especially in the western world.
4. The mention of the Bible, reading of any portion of Scripture, and the observance of devotional prayers are outlawed in academic institutions at all levels, in offices, and in other public places in some nations that were previously proud to be identified as Christian nations just a few years ago.
5. The Church has consequently toned down the commandments of God and stepped down Bible doctrines in many places whenever it is opposed by the acceptable culture and popular opinion of the people.
6. The Church, including some very big denominations, has clearly departed from biblical doctrine on issues relating to salvation, homosexuality and many more issues.
7. As seen in today’s memory verse, in every generation, God is always seeking for watchmen who will speak His mind to the people, irrespective of the circumstance, warning them against doing things that are contrary to His will.
8. Many Christians, including prominent Christian leaders, have openly abdicated this responsibility in public places because of the fear of losing face.
9. If we will please God, we must stand firm in sound teaching of His word (Ezekiel 3:7-21). This is where the problem lies: many preachers and teachers of the word are no longer warning the Church against apostasy and wickedness because of the fear of losing “valuable” members.
10. Our Lord Jesus Christ sent messages of warning to the seven Churches in Asia, and we also must do the same today (Revelation 2-3). We must stand firm on genuine repentance as demanded and witnessed in Proverbs 28:13, Acts 3:19, 2 Samuel 12:13 and Psalm 51:3-4.
11. Note that repentance is not limited to unbelievers alone; every sincere child of God will always engage in self-examination to avoid the presence of unconfessed sins in their lives (1 John 2:1-11).
12. Finally, warring brethren must be reconciled in line with Matthew 5:21-24 and Psalm 133:1-3. As you seek God’s face for revival today, He will answer you by fire in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Please check back for this part of the devotional few hours to the due date. God bless.
Prayer Point:
Father, please help me to be a faithful watchman in this generation in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Chorus:
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it someday for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
In that old rugged cross, I stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ‘twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
To that old rugged cross I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then he’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where his glory forever I’ll share.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, MAY 5TH 2018- BRINGING DOWN REVIVAL I

Memorise: If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Read: Daniel 9:1-9
1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;
2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
6 Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.
8 O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.
9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 15-16, Hebrews 11:23-12:2

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In yesterday’s devotional, we considered the signs through which the need for revival can be identified. Today, we will be reflecting on how to experience revival.
2. In today’s memory verse, the benevolent God clearly spells out the actions that are required to bring down revival from heaven.
3. We must first acknowledge God’s love and His willingness to ignite the fire of revival conveyed through this verse of Scripture. The expression “my people, who are called by my name” was beautifully used by God to reveal His faithfulness and determination to identify with His children in all circumstances even though He hates sin, He loves His people so much that He cannot deny them, even in their fallen and backslidden state.
4. Because He paid the ultimate price of shedding His precious Blood to purchase and redeem us from destruction, He will stand by us, whatever it takes. All He requires of us when we err is repentance and a commitment to live holy.
5. He is always willing to ignite His fresh fire in our hearts. What a loving Father we have!
6. God’s willingness to ignite the fire of revival as soon as we fulfil the necessary conditions is a wonderful blessing to His children. This makes bringing down revival easy.
7. To complete the process of obtaining revival, those who have been chosen to be God’s people must cease from living a life of sin, turn away from their proud self-centeredness, pray to the Lord, and yield their desires in life to His word. Only then will He grant revival from heaven.
8. The specific phrases and words used in 2 Chronicles 7:14, such as “humble themselves”, “pray”, seek His face”, “turn from their wicked ways”, all clearly describe the different aspects of heartfelt repentance and prayer required to bring down revival. The Lord said He would send revival (healing their land) only after the two steps of repentance and prayer have been observed. This healing includes physical and spiritual healing, deliverance from drought and pestilence, as well as the return of captives and exiles to their rightful place of rest.
9. Note that revival is not complete without the restoration of God’s people to their true place of fellowship and relationship with God.
10. You can bring down revival when you engage in prayers of penitence as Daniel did in Daniel 9:4-6. Revival comes when instead of blaming God for your own errors, you admit your mistakes and wrongdoings, and express a willingness to change (Daniel 9:7-8, James 1:13-15).
11. Revival will only come when we persist in the place of prayer, asking God for mercy. He will always honour His word and send His revival.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, MAY 4TH 2018- WHEN YOU NEED REVIVAL

Memorise: wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? Psalm 85:6

Read: Judges 6:1-6
1 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
2 And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
3 And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.
5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 14, Hebrews 11:4-22

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. From God’s perspective, revival is a state of restoration of spiritual interest which has suffered setback or has been abandoned by God’s people. It connotes renewal or the return to original status from a state of coma or disuse.
2. Based on the use of this term in some portions of Scripture, it is evident that it also means to literally bring back to life from the dead (1 Kings 17:22, 2 Kings 13:21). I therefore speak the word of authority to everything that is in a state of coma, and everything that is partially or completely dead in your life: receive complete revival by the power of resurrection in Jesus’ Name.
3. In Revelation chapters 2 and 3, the description of the spiritual state of most of the seven churches in Asia is indicative of spiritual conditions that caIl for revival. May the Good Lord heal and completely revive everyone reading this that may be in a backslidden state in Jesus’ Name.
4. The backsliding of a Christian does not just happen in one day. Rather, it is a gradual process that involves progressive character erosion. The end result is what people see, and then they begin to ask, when did this fellow become like this? This will not be your story in Jesus’ name.
5. For that not to be your story, you need to be familiar with and sensitive to the conditions and circumstances that call for revival, in order to kick-start one whenever necessary.
6. There are many overt signs that make revival necessary in person’s life. A child of God needs revival whenever he or she begins to experience spiritual dryness, as we see in the life of Samson in Judges 16:20-21.
7. When a child of God can no longer recognize the presence or absence of God in his or her life, this is indicative of spiritual dryness.
8. Whenever a child of God finds himself or herself in physical or spiritual servitude, as it happened to the Israelites in Judges 3:12-14, it is time for revival.
9. When a sinful acts and wickedness such as those recorded in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 become part of the daily lifestyle of a Christian, he or she urgently needs revival.
10. Whenever you discover that you have lost your peace, joy and divine provision, just as it happened to the Israelites in today’s Bible reading, revival is desperately needed.
11. Also, whenever a child of God falls into a state of self-doubt or uncertainty and he or she begins to feel insecure, as seen in Numbers 13:26-33, this is an obvious sign that revival is needed.
12. Revival is always preceded by sober reflection and a repentant heart, followed by earnest prayers to God for revival. Do you need revival today? Reach out to God, and He will send His fresh fire into your heart.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, MAY 3RD 2018- AFRAID OF DEATH?

Memorise: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Read: John 5:19-29
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Bible in one year: 1 Samuel 12-13, Hebrews 10:19-11:3

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Everyone prefers life to death, and this is the reason why we all do everything humanly possible to stay alive.
2. The question is, do we need to struggle to keep ourselves alive? In response to this, Jesus Christ in Matthew 6:27 & 34 said: “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” The reason why people worry about life and death can be viewed from two perspectives.
3. Firstly, most people don’t know the source or essence of true life.
4. Secondly, many do not know how to conquer death because they are ignorant of the truth that death has already been conquered.
5. Today’s Bible text speaks extensively on true source of life, and I pray that your heart will grab the full understanding of this in Jesus’ Name.
6. Why do people die? A careful study of Genesis 2:15-17, Genesis 3:2-7, Romans 1:28-32 and Romans 6:23 would answer this question. These passages of the Bible reveal God’s warning to Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, man’s blatant disobedience in eating the forbidden fruit and God’s judgement that followed thereafter. We can therefore say that men die today because of sin.
7. Death is the consequence off the nature and lifestyle of sin. However, we don’t have to live under the fear of death any longer, because our Lord Jesus Christ has given us the assurance of being partakers of the victory He won over death at Calvary in John 14:19 He said: “Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.”
8. Although the wages of sin is death, the gift of God for all those who believe in Jesus Christ is eternal life. Apostle Paul’s testimony in I Corinthians 15:54-57 assures us that death has been conquered for us.
9. The Holy Spirit further expounds this truth in Hebrews 2:14-15 saying, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” We are more than conquerors through the victory won for us by our Lord and Saviour.
10. You therefore have no reason to be afraid of death if you belong to Him. Do you belong to Him?
