OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, OCTOBER 1ST 2018- WATCH YOUR NUTRITION.

Memorise: Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8
Read: 2 peter 2:1-3
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
Bible in one year: Isaiah 24-27, Mark 15: 33-16:8

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. As Christians living in these end times, we have to be very careful of the source and nature of what we allow into our minds.
2. In today’s bible reading, the holy spirit warns us to be wary of false prophets that will arise from among people, secretly bringing up destructive heresies with the aim of taking people’s focus away from Christ.
3. Many of the sermons preached in today’s churches are focused on prosperity, faith, grace, deliverance, and so on. I have no problem with these topics; they are essential parts of the good news. However, many preachers discuss them to such extremes that the resultant effect is a bunch of malnourished souls in the church today.
4. These preachers are out to satisfy their own message, and so they twist scriptures to fit their own message, to look good in the sight of people and to get gifts from them. The holy spirit spoke about such preachers in Romans 16:18, saying: “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple”.
5. As a heaven bound child of God, your spiritual nutrition is of utmost importance.
6. If you are not well nourished spiritually in your local assembly, or you notice that your spiritual growth is stunted, then it is time for you to leave that assembly and prayerfully look for another place where your spiritual needs will be met.
7. You must avoid churches where the lifestyle of Christ is not preached.
Steer clear of churches where the death and resurrection of Jesus are never preached.
8. Shun sermons that encourage tribalism, and be careful of churches that glorify any individual or individuals other than the Lord Jesus Christ himself. The early apostles preached nothing but Jesus Christ. Paul himself said in 1 Corinthians 2:2:
“for I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified”.
9. Run away from preachers whose sermons leave you comfortable in your sins.
10. Holy living must be emphasized in whatever church you prayerfully decide to join, and the bible must be upheld as the foundation of the church’s doctrines.
11. The holy spirit must be the one who leads and directs the activities in your chosen church: this is a sign that God is present there.
12. If you are presently under the influence of a destructive preacher, I pray for you today that the Lord will redeem you and connect you with spirit-led preachers in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” John 16:13‭-14. Any believer with the the spirit of God will do only things that will glorify the father. Anything around contrary to the word of God should be avoided like a plague. “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 11:15 May God continually uphold and strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Action point:
Take a look at your present church. If your spiritual growth has not increased significantly since you joined them, prayerfully look for another church where your spiritual needs will be met.
Hymn
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’ en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
Though, like a wanderer
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee.
There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angles to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee
Then, with my walking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH 2018- PRIVATE AND PUBLIC MINISTRY

Memorise: And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Matthew 14:23
Read: Matthew 5:14-16, Acts 13:1-2
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Acts 13:1-2
1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
Bible in one year: Isaiah 20-23, Mark 15:6-32

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. I would like to share an important truth with you today. To be effective in your assignment in life, you need both a private and public ministry.
2. In private, you minister to the Lord with prayers and fasting, like Anna and the prophets and teachers in Antioch did (Luke 2:36-37).
3. Many spiritual battles won in public were settled in the place of private spiritual warfare.
4. A good example to show the importance of private ministry is when Moses confronted the Amalekites in the place of private intercession. Moses was still grappling with the grumbling and murmuring of the people he was leading when the Amalekites confronted them with war. Immediately, he activated both a private and public ministry to tackle the Amalekites. He told Joshua to lead the physical battle, while he and his two lieutenants went into private spiritual warfare. Confirming the popular saying that the spiritual controls the physical, Exodus 17:11 says: “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”
5. We can safely conclude that there is no success in public ministry without a solid private ministry. This principle is constant and relevant from generation to generation. It also applies to people in business. Even our Lord Jesus Christ combined these two dimensions of ministry, as seen in today’s memory verse. After public ministration, our Lord would retreat to His private ministry of prayer, where He recharged His spiritual battery.
6. However, private ministry without public ministry is like a sumptuous meal that is not brought into the banquet hall for consumption.
7. As revealed in our Bible text, our light is not meant to be hidden under a bushel. We must be wary of being lopsided as Christians. Some of us even say “ I am called to be this and not that,” thereby limiting the extent to which the Lord can use us. There is no reason a prayer warrior cannot witness to the perishing souls around him or her. In the same vein, an evangelist who claims to be called to propagate the gospel may end up frustrated without a prayer ministry of intercession for the souls he or she is going out for. This is because we are not wrestling with flesh and blood when we go out to fulfill our public ministry (Ephesians 6:12).
8. Beloved, God is speaking to you today so that you can fulfill your assignment in life.
9. You can combine giving, which should be done in private, with witnessing. You can combine your evangelism with serious intercession.
10. Make full proof of your calling by engaging in both private and public ministry. God bless you.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

The truth is that the physical is often controlled in the Spirit and we cannot be ignorant of it. Every believer must therefore take it as responsibility to engage in spiritual that will manifest in the physical. Just like Pastor Adeboye reveals “We can safely conclude that there is no success in public ministry without a solid private ministry”.  May the Lord continue to give us success in both spiritual and physical battles of life in Jesus Name. Glory to God for His son Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Prayer Point: Introduce a balance into your private and public ministry. How often do you minister to God?

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH 2018- SELFISHLY PROSPEROUS?

Memorise: He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. Proverbs 28:27
Read: Luke 16:19-26
19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and [a]fared sumptuously every day.
20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
21 desiring to be fed with [b]the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’
25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’
Bible in one year: Isaiah 16-19, Mark 14:53-15:5

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. It is a dangerous thing to be selfishly prosperous because Proverbs 11:26 says: “He that witholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.”
2. This scripture is a warning to those who hoard goods that are meant for sale in order to make inordinate profit. The Bible says such people are under a divine curse. You better desist from such acts if you are one of them.
3. Instead of giving out to the needy, some so-called rich people would rather allow their excess loaves of bread and cans of milk go stale and sour, and end up in the waste dump.
4. The rich man in today’s Bible text is a typical example of people who are selfishly prosperous. Luke 16:21 tells of how he related with Lazarus, saying: “And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.” If the rich man had been alive to his responsibility as a custodian of God’s blessings, Lazarus would have been fed daily with the excess from his table. Instead, he was not mindful of Lazarus’ sufferings. Apart from the lack of food in the midst of plenty, dogs also came up and licked Lazarus sores! Why was it dogs attending to Lazarus and not the medical personnel in the service of the rich man? The rich man was indeed selfishly prosperous. Proverbs 19:17 says: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given him he pay him again.” No wonder this rich man had to experience begging and agony in the afterlife.
5. Beloved, know that the purpose of God’s blessings upon your life is to be His divine treasurer, and one of your mandate is to help the needy around you. He will bless you the more when you realize this and fulfill your mandate.
6. The story was told of a rich philanthropist who helped to educate the child of a poor peasant labourer. This child later went on to invent a drug that saved the life of the grandchild of this philanthropist. The philanthropist was rich and generous. This is very good combination. He would have lost his grandchild but for the drug invented by a child he helped to educate. And adage says “one good turn deserves another”.
7. When you pray for divine prosperity, ensure you know what you are asking for. You may not get it if you will be selfish with God’s provision in your life.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Matthew 25:34‭-‬40 says “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” May we never be damned in Jesus name. We are daily refreshed as we study the Open Heavens devotional. May God continually increase Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please bless me and use me to meet the needs of Your Kingdom, in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He shed on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH 2018- HE WILL SURELY REMEMBER

Memorise: And the king said, what honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. Esther 6:3
Read: Esther 6:1-12
1 That night [a]the king could not sleep. So one was commanded to bring the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. 2 And it was found written that Mordecai had told of [b]Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, the doorkeepers who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 3 Then the king said, “What honor or dignity has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?” And the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.”
4 So the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to suggest that the king hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5 The king’s servants said to him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.”
6 So Haman came in, and the king asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman thought in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?”
7 And Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor,
8 let a royal robe be brought which the king has worn, and a horse on which the king has ridden, which has a royal [c]crest placed on its head.
9 Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then [d]parade him on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ”
10 Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits within the king’s gate! Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.”
11 So Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
12 Afterward Mordecai went back to the king’s gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered.
Bible in one year: Isaiah 13-15, Mark 14:32-52

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One characteristic attribute of our Father in heaven is that He remembers details of past, present and future events. For this reason, it is dangerous to be part of bad event which He has noted down for judgement, because He will surely remember (1 Samuel 15:2-3). The good thing is that He will surely remember your good works also.
2. Today’s bible reading narrates a classic example of remembrance of good works. On the night before the day when Haman intended to get the king’s permission to hang Mordecai, the God who specializes in remembering and recompensing good deeds took sleep away from the eyes of King Ahasuerus, and he could not sleep no matter how hard he tried. Naturally, when a person cannot sleep, he or she tries to find something to do. The Lord used this to lead Ahasuerus to open the book of records for Mordecai’s sake. The king found in it that Mordecai had been instrumental to foiling an assassination plot against him. He then asked a question, which should serve as food for thought “What honour and dignity has been done to Mordecai for this?” There is one fundamental lesson that every person, especially children of God, must learn here. It is imperative to always remember every good deed people do to us. A proverb in my native language says, “Failure to appreciate good deeds is like daylight robbery.” I pray that your good works of many years shall be remembered this season, and you shall be honoured in Jesus’ Name.
3. Beloved, learn from the experience of Mordecai that God will always cause people to repay your good deeds. In this regard, the Lord said in Luke 6:38a: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.” What the Lord is saying here is that God will compel men, even when they are not willing, to bless you for your good deeds.
4. The interesting aspect of Mordecai’s story is that the fellow who wanted to get permission to kill him came into palace courts just at the nick of time to be used by the king in honouring this same Mordecai. I pray once again hat your enemies shall become your stepping stones to glory in Jesus’ name.
5. I just want to encourage you to be addicted to good works (Romans 12:9). Many children of God block their way to glory and honour because they are bankrupt of good deeds, even though they are born again.
6. Beloved, good deeds are proof of your encounter with the Master who Himself went about doing good (Acts 10:38, James 2:18).

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Prayer Point: Father, help me to combine good works with my faith so that I may be like You indeed. Also, please remember me for the past good deeds your holy Spirit has helped me sow in people’s lives.
Hymn
(Tune: There shall be showers of blessing)
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sinners will soon be forgiven
Prodigals will come home soon.
Chorus:
Shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Rivers in desert now flowing
Halleluyah to our king.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sickness and sorrow will be gone
Bondage will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
The barren will be fruitful soon
Failure will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Poverty will be forgotten
Stagnancy will soon be gone.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
To all miracles are given
There shall be celebrations
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Many will have testimonies
Of prayers answered fully
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
One of us will chase a thousand
Two will conquer ten thousands.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Songs of praises we will sing
Halleluyah to our King.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 2018- LESSONS FROM MUD

Memorise: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breadth of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7
Read: Jeremiah 18:1-6
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Bible in one year: Isaiah 10-12, Mark 14:10-21

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. It is amazing that something as precious as humanity could come out from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7). However, this could only happen because God worked on it. What a great lesson this is to the wise! Any person who allows God to work on him or her will become a vessel unto honour in God’s hands. The Holy Spirit confirms this truth in 2 Timothy 2:21, saying: “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use and prepared unto every food work.”
2. Unfortunately, observing the history of mankind has taught us that the mud of the earth seems to be wiser than majority of the people who ever lived. Why? When the Almighty God wanted to make something precious from the dust, it did not protest against God’s work. In contrast to this, what do we see in mankind? We see stiff resistance whenever God wants to glorify Himself through them. For this reason, many people do not fulfill their destinies on earth.
3. The Lord took Jeremiah to a potter’s house where the potter was working on a lump of clay. In the process, the clay was marred in the potter’s hands and he made it into another vessel that he liked, according to his pleasure. Not once did the clay protest the potter’s intentions. In Jeremiah 18:6, the Lord then asked this question:
“O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? Saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.”
4. Although man was made out of dust, he was glorified after the Lord God had worked on him. Along the line however, he became marred through the machinations of the devil. To the glory of God, the Great Potter is working on us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Beloved, have you been worked upon by the Lord? Are you even allowing God to work on you? If not, today is the day of salvation.
5. You must surrender your life to God through Christ and confess your sins to Him for forgiveness. Isaiah prayed a prayer on behalf of the nation of Israel, which should also be our prayer today. In Isaiah 64:8-9, he said:
“but now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.”
6. Learn from the clay in today’s story. If you can pray this prayer today, the Lord will work on your marred life, business, family, job or studies and cause great restoration to take place in them.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

What a lesson to be learned from mud. When we truly submit to the potter to work upon our life, we receive great transformation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Most of the times God is interested in working upon man however, man has been running. The question for you today ” Is God chasing you to work upon you? Have you submitted yourself to him to work upon you? May God help us and give us the Grace to be submissive to His will. God bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for this wonderful piece.

Action Point:
Pray the prayer in Isaiah 64:8-9, applying it to the appropriate areas of your life .
1.When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He shed on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 2018- IT SHALL NOT STAND!

Memorise: For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. Psalm 125:3
Read: Nehemiah 4:1-15
Bible in one year: Isaiah 7-9, Mark 13:24-14:9
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
2 And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:
5 And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.
6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.
7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,
8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.
9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.
12 And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.
13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the LORD, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. I want you to see today’s topic as a prophetic word from God coming to you with power. You may be wondering, “What is it that shall not stand?” The counsel of the wicked against you shall not stand in Jesus Name. In this regard, there are many lessons to be learnt from Nehemiah and his team of builders. It is amazing that there are people who are opposed to good things in life, but the good news is that for those who know the true God, the counsel of the wicked will never stand. When Nehemiah got to know of the conspiracy hatched by Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians and their other devilish allies like the Ammonites and Ashdodites, he called for prayer. Nehemiah 4:9 says:“nevertheless we made our prayer unto out God, and set a watch against them, day and night, because of them.”
2. Beloved, if your suffering must cease and the conspiracies of the wicked against you must no longer stand, you must learn to pray.
Furthermore, observe that Nehemiah set a watch, day and night, against the evil conspirators. Jesus told the disciples in Mark 14:38 to watch and pray. Nehemiah and his team did not watch alone, because they knew that “except the Lord keep the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).
3. At the same time, they did not pray alone; they also watched. Very often, children of God fail in the area of watching. They are carefree, but this is not the will of God for our lives. God wants us to be vigilant, so that together with Him, we will continue to frustrate the counsel of the wicked. In addition, Nehemiah also did something strategic, as seen in Nehemiah 4:16-17:“And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
4.They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.”
5. There was precise division of labour, with everyone knowing his or her responsibility. Every one of them also had their weapon of war ready, even as they engaged in the work of building. To frustrate the counsel of the wicked, we must be sensitive to the Spirit always and be ready to engage in spiritual warfare at all times.
6. Beloved, let us comport ourselves in such a way that our Father in heaven will know that we mean business, and He will not allow the counsel of the wicked against our destiny and our endeavours to stand in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Why not imitate Nehemiah and his team and continue to defeat those forces against your destiny. When God fights your battle, you should be rest assured that victory is yours. however, the bible says “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force” which means that you might have to be both defensive and offensive to be permanent victor. Lord, please honour you son Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Prayer Point:
Father, strengthen my hands in battle and frustrate the counsel of my enemies.
1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can eer pereval.
Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.
2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.
3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH 2018- MULTIPLY

Memorise: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28
Read: Deuteronomy 28:1-14
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.
6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
8 The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
9 The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.
10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
Bible in one year: Isaiah 4-6, Mark 13:3-23

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. A major characteristic of every living thing is growth.
2. If a child that was born 5 years ago now looks like a 5 year old child, this is normal. If an orange tree you planted four years ago is now yielding fruits, this is also normal. You don’t need a miracle to grow, it is just natural.
3. Multiplication on the other hand is a special thing. God did not tell us to grow, He told us to multiply.
4. Other people may be growing, but we as children of God must multiply because it is a command from God.
5. You may be wondering “How can I begin to multiply?” Notice that when God told His children to multiply in Genesis 1:28, it was a time when there was no sin and they had constant fellowship with Him. The simple secret to multiplication is to live holy and to have God with you. Psalm 22:3 says that God inhabits the praises of His children. If you want God to be with you always, then you should live a lifestyle of giving praise to Him.
6. Many years ago, I was preparing for a three-day program. While I was in my prayer room, I was praying to God, saying ‘Lord, heal the sick today, show forth Your power and do mighty miracles.” Suddenly, I heard God respond sharply to me, and He said “Keep quiet! What about all the miracles I have done in the past? Have you thanked Me for them?” My response to Him was “Lord I’m sorry, thank You for all the miracles You have done for us: now today, heal the sick, and perform great miracles…” He suddenly cut me shut again, saying, “keep quiet! I don’t want to hear any request from you for the next three days; all I want you to do is to praise Me.” This was very difficult for me because my mind was set on having the people that would be attending the program receive their miracles. I struggled with the instruction, but I obeyed. After the program was over, God told me to tell my people to prepare; He said that we had been experiencing increase in our church, but that from that time forward, we would be experiencing multiplication, and that has been our story ever since.
7. Do you want to multiply? Learn to praise God regularly, and avoid sin.
8. Taking Solomon as a case study, when he became king, he feared the Lord and kept away from sin. His only desire was to rule the people according to God’s will. There was even a time he sacrificed twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep, all just to worship God (2 Chronicles 7:5). In 2 Chronicles 2:1, he determined to build a house for God and spared no expense at all in building this house. All the while, he kept multiplying. He multiplied so much that silver and gold were like stone in his kingdom (2 Chronicles 1:15). However, the moment his heart turned away from the things of God, the anointing for multiplication dried up, so that by the end of his reign, he was taxing the pole heavily just so that he could maintain his lifestyle.
9. Determine today to stay away from sin and stay in the place of worshipping God, and your multiplication will be unending.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

We must constantly ask God for grace to do His will and obey his word. It is stated in our devotional today that to multiply you must learn to praise God regularly, and avoid sin. Having knowledge of something is not enough, applying it for great success matters more. May we be doers of the word of God in Jesus name. God be praised for Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Key Point: God multiplies those who live a lifestyle of holiness and praise to Him.
Hymn
(Tune: There shall be showers of blessing)
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sinners will soon be forgiven
Prodigals will come home soon.
Chorus:
Shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Rivers in desert now flowing
Halleluyah to our king.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Sickness and sorrow will be gone
Bondage will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
The barren will be fruitful soon
Failure will be forgotten.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Poverty will be forgotten
Stagnancy will soon be gone.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
To all miracles are given
There shall be celebrations
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Many will have testimonies
Of prayers answered fully
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
One of us will chase a thousand
Two will conquer ten thousands.
We will soon shout Halleluyah
Because God will do new things
Songs of praises we will sing
Halleluyah to our King.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH 2018- FRUITS OF REPENTANCE

Memorise: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: Matthew 3:8
Read: Luke 15:11-22
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
Bible in one year: Isaiah 1-3, mark 12:28-13:2

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The proof of genuine repentance is doing those things you promised God at the altar when you gave your life to Christ.
2. In Luke 15:18, the prodigal son repented of his ways and said: “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,” The fruit of his repentance is manifested here in Luke 15:20a & 21: “And he arose, and came to his father….And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.”
3. Many times we see people confessing their sins to God and promising Him never to go back to them again, but as soon as they leave the altar of repentance, they begin to live their lives as before. This suggests that their repentance was not genuine. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”
4. Beloved, can you sincerely say that old things have passed away in your life? The truth of the matter is that it takes conscious and determined effort to bear the fruits of repentance. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 and Ephesians 4:24-32 contain some practical guidance for bearing fruits of repentance; please take time out to read through these passages.
5. When a fellow who was stealing before his confession of faith in Christ stops stealing, we can say he or she is bearing fruits of repentance. An adulterous woman who for the sake of Christ sacks all her sin partners, thereby losing all the “fringe benefits” of her extramarital wanderings, can be said to be bearing fruits of repentance. When an alcoholic scraps the drinking bar in his or her expensive living room to begin hosting Christian gatherings in that space, sharing the word of God over cups of tea, we can say that such a fellow is bearing fruits of repentance. This indeed was the first thing my friends noticed in me after I became born again. Any time they came to my house and asked for brandy, my Lord Jesus Christ would not want me to drink alcohol or serve it to others. One by one they stopped visiting my house, which served my best interest as a growing child of God.
6. Beloved, the whole world must recognize that you have actually given your life to Christ when they see undeniable proof of the fruits of repentance in you.
7. A street fighter who is now a peace-maker in the neighbourhood is the pride of the Master.
8. God bless you as you bear fruits worthy of repentance in Jesus Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
Luke 6:44 Genuine repentance is manifested when we produce godly fruits.
We are daily refreshed as we study the Open Heavens devotional. May God continually increase Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, help me forthwith to bear fruits that reflect the transformation inside me in Jesus Name.
Hymn
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD 2018- AN ACCUSER OF THE BRETHREN?

Memorise: And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. Mark 11:25
Read: Revelation 12:10-11
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Bible in one year: Song of Solomon 5– 8, Mark 12:13-27

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. As revealed in today’s Bible reading, the devil is the “accuser of the brethren”. It is unfortunate that some people ignorantly possess this attributes of the devil.
2. How can a person be an accuser of the brethren without knowing it? The answer is simple: when you refuse to forgive those who wrong you, you are passively accusing him or her as n evil doer.
3. The practical implication of refusing to forgive those who have wronged you is that you become a prosecuting witness against a brother or sister. You are therefore on the side of the devil in heaven’s court litigating against your own brethren. It’s therefore wise to heed the words of Jesus in Mark 11:25: “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
4. Many professing children of God find it difficult to forgive. One wonders if such people have ever experienced the joy of forgiveness from God or man before. Unfortunately for them, the fellow they are accusing in their hearts may not even know about it, or may even have settled their case with God, thereby obtaining forgiveness and justification through the Blood of Jesus Christ (Revelation 12:11, Hebrews 12:24). For this reason, Romans 8:34 asks a rhetorical question and answers it, saying: “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” May you not be found guilty of working against Christ’s ministry of intercession through unforgiveness.
5. Beloved, who are you directly or indirectly accusing relentlessly? Of course, he or she might have wronged you; nevertheless, the Lord is saying that you should forgive the fellow. Once you do, he or she is no longer an offender to you, and so, no accusation originates from you anymore.
6. The reward for this is revealed in Matthew 5:7 which says: “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
7. The good news today is that the God who is asking us to forgive and forget has demonstrated the same towards us when He through Christ forgave our sins. Have your sins been forgiven?
8. If you have not experienced the joy of forgiveness, confess your sins today and you will receive the mercy of God without measure.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Many believers keep missing their blessing because of unforgiveness. This is another way the devil is using to deprive such believer of their breakthrough. I pray the Lord will deliver everyone with unforgiving spirit in Jesus name. God bless and continually strengthen Pastor E.A ADdeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please forgive my known and unknown sins, and teach my heart to forgive others in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’ en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
Though, like a wanderer
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee.
There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angles to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee
Then, with my walking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND 2018- ORDERLINESS AND GODLINESS

Memorise: For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: Titus 1:5
Read: Exodus 40:1-10, Matthew 3:13-15
1 Then the Lord said to Moses:
2 “Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month.
3 Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain.
4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
6 “Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting;
7 place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. 8 Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
9 “Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy. 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy.
Matthew 3:13-15
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
Bible in one year: Song of Solomon 1-4, Mark 11:20-12:12

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Our God is a God of order.
2. To walk in godliness, orderliness is very important. As a matter of fact, you cannot be holy if you are not orderly, because it takes obedience to be orderly. Contrary to the opinion of some Pentecostal zealots, God cherishes orderliness. But for the grace and mercy of God, disorderliness would have killed many so-called children of God and ministers of the gospel.
3. Orderliness was so important to God that He instructed Moses on how to conduct His sanctuary in the wilderness, as seen in today’s Bible reading. When two of Aaron’s sons, who were priests in their own right, introduced disorderliness in the sanctuary, they both died at the altar of God. Numbers 3:4 says: ‘And nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father.”
4. Similarly, when King Saul usurped Samuel’s role by offering sacrifice unto the Lord, he was damned for it because he broke divine protocol. According to 1 Samuel 13:10 & 13: “And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.” King
5. Saul lost his throne because of his lack of respect for heaven’s order.
6. Beloved, when it comes to spiritual matters, be wary of breaking protocol; it may cost you more than you can ever imagine.
7. I love the spirit in Aaron and Ur, associates of Moses who assisted his intercession during the battle with the Amalekites. Narrating their service, Exodus 17:12 says: “but Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.”
8. Aaron and Hur understood divine protocol. They knew that the only hands recognized by heaven in this project were Moses’ hands. Instead of raising their own hands when Moses’ hands became tired, they helped to stay the hands that needed to be raised, and the victory was won.
9. Commit today to respecting and observing orderliness in every area of life.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Being orderly is not in many believers character indeed and this should be corrected. The creation of the earth is a pure display of our God being orderly. If we are His children we should therefore behave like Him. May God uphold Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please instill in me today the spirit of orderliness, and grant me grace to continue to do things according to Your specifications.
Hymn
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word,
What a glory He shed on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey
