OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD 2018- ARE YOU A WORTHY ASSOCIATE?

Memorise: And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach. Mark 3:14
Read: John 15:10-16
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 37 – 39, Luke 15:11-32

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. A great number of people fail to realize that a tree does not make a forest, and so they despise the blessings that come with having associates in their lives.
2. God did not design man to attain his full potential as a lone ranger. Genesis 2:18 says: “And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
3. We should however note that the associates we let into our lives must be worthy ones, and unfortunately, the problem of many leaders today is that they are short of worthy associates. For this reason, their organizations don’t grow to their full potential.
4. Abraham, the father of faith, had worthy associates who were ready to go to war with him when the need arose (Genesis 14:24). Genesis 14:13 says: “And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eschol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.”I pray that the Lord will give you worthy associates in Jesus’ Name.
5. Even our Lord needed worthy associates when He was here on earth. The purpose of these associates was first and foremost, to be with Him, and secondly, to send them on assignments that would lead to the fulfillment of His mission here on earth, Mark 3:14 says: “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that he might send them forth to preach.”
6. Today, I prophesy into your life that worthy associates, whether in business marriage or ministry, will come your way in Jesus’ name. just as the Lord chose the twelve disciples, He has also chosen us to be His worthy associates and we must be worthy ones indeed. He said to us in John 15:16a; “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain:” We must therefore bear the fruit of the Spirit, so that our Father in heaven may be glorified (Galatians 5:22-25).
7. We must also bear the fruit of souls into God’s kingdom. When we do this, we will have our bountiful rewards, which include express answers to our prayers, and this alone is worth more than silver or gold.
8. May God make you a worthy associate of His in Jesus’ name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Prayer Point: Father, please make me a worthy associate of Jesus Christ through the fruits I bear from today onward in Jesus Name.
Hymn
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished
And Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The rumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger.
And strength to strength oppose.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
Ye dare not trust your won
Put on the Gospel armor,
And, watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.
Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long:
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND 2018- YOU NEED A COUNSELLOR

Memorise: where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14
Read: Isaiah 9:2-7
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 35-36, Luke 14:25-15:10

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Some Christians feel that they have outgrown the need for counselors in their lives, but nothing could be further from the truth. The unfortunate thing is that, such Christians who erroneously think this way gradually graduate to the level of believing that they can also live their Christian lives in isolation. The resultant effect of this is that they stop fellowshipping with other believers, contrary to our Lord’s injunction in Hebrews 10:25, which says: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
2. Every one of us will always need a counselor at one point in time or the other till we see Jesus in glory (1 Corinthians 13:9-12). I recall the story of the first dump truck we bought at the Redemption Camp in Nigeria. It was a result of the wise counsel I got from our Camp Manager. We had received some money that looked substantial to me, and I felt we should go ahead to execute some of our building projects. As I was contemplating on the next project to embark on, the Lord spoke to me, instructing me to seek counsel from our Camp Manager. When my Commander-in-Chief speaks, I don’t waste time in carrying out His bidding. I got to the Camp Manager, and contrary to what I had in mind, he recommended that we should buy a dump truck for transporting sand from the quarry, where we could buy sand for construction at a cheaper price, instead of purchasing from resellers at an exorbitant rate as we had been doing. He was of the opinion that we would need a lot of sand for the projects at hand, and having our own truck for getting sand at a cheap price would reduce the cost of these building projects substantially. That was how we got the dump truck, and this opened our eyes to other opportunities that further reduced the cost of our construction projects drastically.
3. Isaiah 9:2 says that the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light, and those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death have received the light of life. How did this happen? The Holy Spirit answers this in Isaiah 9:6 saying: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace.”
4. Jesus is the Counselor of counselors.
5. How yielded are you to the counsel He gives you through His word, through the voice of His Spirit inside you, and through the people He has placed around you?
6. If you do not receive His counsel, His gentle Spirit will not force you, but you will bear the consequence that follow.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Prayer Point: Gentle Holy Spirit, I acknowledge Your knowledge is beyond mine; I therefore yield to Your counsel in all my ways, Please lead me to the place of heaven’s rest in Jesus Christ.
Hymn
I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
I need Thee every hour
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
I need thee every hour
Most Holy one;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST 2018- ADONAI

Memorise:  The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 24:1
Read: Job 38:1-11
1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 33- 34, Luke 14:7-24

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. ‘Adonai’ is one of our Heavenly Father’s numerous names, and it means Master and Owner.
2. This Name encapsulates the sovereignty of our God.
3. Indeed, our God is sovereign, because He owns everything and is in absolute control over the entire universe. He holds all the power in heaven and on earth in His hands. He is totally unlimited!
4. Every other thing was created but He alone is self-existing. Because of this, He is not limited by resources, time, space or any other thing: whereas all other things, including the contraptions of men’s hearts called gods, are limited by the laws He has installed in His sovereignty to govern the universe. He has the power to do whatever He likes, however He likes and whenever He likes. What a great God He is!
5. It is easy for man to think that life is all about him, and that God exists for his benefit. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everything God has done or has given to you is for His glory alone. For this reason, in Revelation 4:11, the twenty-four elders in heaven adore Him saying: “Thou art worthy, O LORD, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” He made everything for His pleasure, even you.
6. My advice to you is that you willingly put yourself under His lordship and leadership; if anything at all, learn from Pharaoh. Pharaoh resisted God and so God decided to use him to show how much of a consuming fire He can be (Exodus 5:2, Exodus 14:4). A Christian is called into submission to our Heavenly Father’s will. When you submit to His will, He will ensure that everything else submits to you.
7. If the sovereign God is your Friend, you are immensely blessed, because He can overrule sicknesses, debts, curses negative prophecies and even death! However, when this God is angry with anyone, that person is finished.
8. In Acts 12:23, King Herod was eaten up by worms because God was angry with him. God is angry with the wicked everyday (Psalm 7:11)! The wicked is anyone who continues to live in sin and disobedience. Proverbs 29:1 says that anyone who refuse to change in spite of being corrected over and again will be destroyed suddenly.
9. If you have never given your life to Jesus or if you claim to have given your life to Him but still live in sin, repent now!
10. When the Sovereign God is angry with you, nobody can defend you.
11. Sin makes you an enemy of God (James 4:4).
12. You have to wholly yield yourself to Him by surrendering every single part of your life to Him, inviting Him to take over.
13. He is always ready to take responsibility for your life; all He is awaiting for is your invitation. Are you willing to invite Him today?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Adonai is our God, the way maker, excellent God, Mighty God, Lion of the tribe of Judah . In Him we live, move and have our being. His sovereignty cannot be contended. That is why in the book Isaiah he said “I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior. I am the LORD, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King.”  Glory to God for today’s devotional and for the life of the writer Pastor E.A Adeboye.

Action Point: Ask the Adonai to override every limiting factor in your life by His sovereign power.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31 2018- RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST

Memorise: And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:40
Read: John 1:10-13
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 32, Luke 13: 18-14:6

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. It is very important for every born-again child of God to have a relationship with Him. The importance of a relationship with Jesus Christ can never be overemphasized. Having a relationship with Him goes beyond accepting Him as Lord and Saviour, it means interacting with Him on a daily basis and involving Him in the running of your everyday life.
2. It is expected of every child to have a cordial relationship with his or her father. This should also be the case with our Lord Jesus Christ, because He is referred to as the Everlasting Father I Isaiah 9:6. If Christ is the Everlasting Father, we must therefore have a beautiful relationship with Him. The Lord Jesus Christ is the best Father anybody can have, because He is even more caring than any earthly father can ever be. He constantly seeks to have a close relationship with His children, but sadly,.
3. Many of us are too busy to cultivate a loving relationship with Him. It is unfortunate that the relationship which most children instead of a ‘give and take’ relationship. Any Christian who has a revelation of the evil that God delivered us from through salvation will take his or her relationship with Jesus Christ more seriously. When I became born again and realized how close to hell I was before God saved me, I was ready to do anything for this God. I was grateful that He saved a sinner like me, so much that all I cared about was pleasing Him.
4. Another reason why it is important to have a relationship with Christ is that our fate will be committed into His hands by God on the day of judgement. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says:
‘For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
5. If we don’t have a relationship with Christ now, how will we be able to face Him on the day of judgement? Christ is still full of love and mercy now, and He is still knocking at the door of our hearts and gently asking to be let in. He is right now seated at the Father’s right hand, advocating for us. However, a time is coming when He will be seated on His judgement seat to judge everyone who refused to accept His offer of mercy when it was available. At that time, His eyes will be full of fire and His entire countenance will be fiery (Daniel 7:9-10, Revelation 20:11-12).
6. There will be no begging or excuses then – it will be judgment without mercy. My advice is that you cultivate a relationship with Him from today.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Every believer must know that there is more to being saved. After salvation then comes relationship with God. Intimate relationship with Him eliminates fear of uncertainty from your heart because the one who knows the ending from the beginning would have revealed the issues coming the future to you. As the bible says But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God”. This scripture established the fact that through the HolySpirit we can know the future. Do you have relationship with Him? If you do, how intimate?

Prayer Point: Lord Jesus Christ, help to cultivate a beautiful relationship with You from today.
Hymn
1. Nearer, my God, to Thee;
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
2. Though, like a wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
3. There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that Thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
4. Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 2018- LACKING PEACE?

Memorise: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
Read: John 14:26-31
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 31, Luke 12:57-13:17

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One of the signs by which you know that God is with you or that His presence is in whatever you are doing is when you have peace in your heart. Peace is the state of harmony that is made available to the children of God through a right relationship with Him and a good relationship with their fellow human beings. Peace a associated with the presence of the Prince of Peace, Jesus. His presence is made manifest in the world today by the Holy Spirit.
2. The absence of peace in a person’s life leads to fretful worry or anxiety. It is not God’s plan for a child of God to possess a distressed state of mind that is filled with concern over present or future challenges. For this reason, the Holy Spirit says to us in Philippians 4:6:
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God.”
3. God knows that the pressure of the needs we face in this world can rob us of His presence, and so He sent these words to help us recognize the right thing to do when confronted with challenges. Worrying about your needs or the challenges you are confronted with will not change anything; rather, it is a snare of the devil to cause sicknesses such as high blood pressure in people. I pray that you will not be a victim of hypertension, stroke or heart disease in Jesus’ Name.
4. The Bible reveals Jesus as the Prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6). This means that wherever there is turmoil or crisis, once Jesus is invited into the situation and the presence of the Holy Spirit is called upon, a sense of wellbeing, contentment and wholesomeness will be restored immediately. This is what happened in Mark 4:39, when Jesus rebuked the storm after the disciples called upon Him:
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
5. The Name of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit establish peace in God’s children, irrespective of the outward circumstance around them. True peace is therefore an indication of the presence of Jesus, made manifest by the Holy Spirit, in any given situation. I pray that the presence of God that brings lasting peace will abide with you today in Jesus’ Name.
6. if you are passing through a stressful and difficult time in your life, if you are through a stressful and difficult time in your life, if you are going through a serious financial crisis or your marriage is in turmoil, if you are experiencing psychological or emotional trauma that defies solution, it is time to call on the Name of Jesus and invite the presence of the Holy Spirit into your life. As you do so, God will grant you all round peace today in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Peace is something that Jesus endowed us when He was living and to have legal right to this Peace , you must have intimate relationship with God the father, the son and the Holyspirit. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” what is that that thing terrifying your life at the moment, give it to your maker and He will see you through. God be praised for another wonderful devotional from great man of God Pastor E.A Adeboye. More anointing sir.

Action Point: make your request known to God concerning every need that has robbed you of His peace.
Hymn
1. My faith look up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!
2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh. May my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!
3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, OCTOBER 29TH 2018- LOOK UP

Memorise: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
Read: Hebrews 12:1-3
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 29-30, Luke 12:35-56

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. To look to Jesus means to rely on Him for help and to see Him as our example.
2. He is our forerunner who has triumphantly gone through whatever we are passing through now. He knew the purpose of His coming into this world, and He stayed true to that purpose till it was fulfilled. Therefore, in the midst of trials and temptations, you only need to look up to Jesus and walk in the steps that He left for us to follow.
3. To look to Jesus is to look away from every other thing and focus on Him alone. Naturally, when you look up, it becomes impossible to see your surroundings at the same time. For this reason, your focus shifts from your surroundings and settles on the things above alone. So, to look up to Jesus means that no matter how fierce the storm is raging in your present situation, you must look away from it and fix your gaze only on Jesus Christ.
4. The good thing is that it is only then that solutions will come and peace will be given to calm the raging storm. If you don’t believe me, ask Peter. When he had his eyes set on Jesus, he was walking on the stormy sea, but the moment he looked at his surroundings, he began to sink (Matthew 14:28-31). Matthew 14:30 says: “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” You will not sink in Jesus’ Name.
5. To look to man is a fruitless effort. A person can only raise you as far as his or her hands can reach, and each person’s reach is limited. Also, someone can be in a position of authority today and be out of it tomorrow, and so what happens to you if you have been looking up to that person?
6. In the little time I have spent on earth, I have to discover that the only person you can trust totally is God. He is the one who never fails, has no limits and can never be dethroned.
7. Finally, to look up to Jesus is to focus on our destination and our reward. We are sojourners here on earth, only passing through on our way to our eternal home.
8. If Heaven is your final destination, then it is only wise that you focus on the Way to that destination. The Bible says that He sits at the right hand of God’s throne. That is our finish line, and that is where your gaze should be permanently fixed.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Our gaze must be fix on Christ Jesus in our work a walk with God otherwise, finishing the race set before us may become imposed. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1‭-‬2 We are daily refreshed as we study the Open Heavens devotional. May God continually uphold and strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Action Point: Keep your gaze fixed on Jesus, no matter what.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28TH 2018- RELEVANT FOREVER?

Memorise: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8
Read: James 1:16-18
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 27 – 28, Luke 12:8-34

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In today’s memory verse, the Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as never changing. If you can catch a revelation of what this means in your spirit, your life will never remain the same.
2. One benefit of His eternal consistency is that the works He did over two thousand years ago. He can still do today in the lives of those who believe and are yielded to Him. Not only are His works unchanging, His word also never changes. No wonder the Holy Spirit said in Psalm 119:89: “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”
3. If you want your life to be built on a sure foundation in this world of uncertainties, then build your life on His word. When you live your life by the word of God which is forever settled in heaven, it will cause you to remain relevant forever.
4. If you want your life endeavours to outlive you, make sure they are founded on God’s word. I am appealing to you today to embrace the word of God which is forever settled.
5. The world we live in is changing but God never changes, and His standard never changes either. For example, thousands of years after God commanded Abraham to walk before Him and be perfect, Jesus Christ came and echoed the same words to His disciples (Genesis 17:1, Matthew 5:48).
6. In our Bible text today, we have some fundamental truths that cannot be wished away if you want to forever remain relevant spiritually and in the kingdom of heaven. It says: “Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.”
7. One of the truths contained in this scripture is that every good and perfect gift is from God, the Father of lights. You know He is your Father indeed, when like Him you illuminate the darkness of this world.
8. Another of these truths is that this Father of lights does not change and there is no shadow of turning with Him. As human beings, we may restructure, modernize, amplify and contexualise His printed word in our hands, but His original word is forever the same with Him in heaven. Lastly, the most effective instrument He has been using since the world began is His word (John 1:1-3). Through this same word are we born again and made perfect. His word is indeed magnified above His Name (Psalm 138:2).
9. Beloved, the extent of your relevance depends on the extent to which your life complies with the word of God. Do you abide by His word?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

God be praised for the deep truth revealed in today’s devotional. The word of God is not just a requirement for a remarkable life with great relevance but strict adherence and obedience of the word of God as well is very important. May God continually bless and empower Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me through Your Holy Spirit to comply with Your word, and make me relevant to Your work here and hereafter in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
I need Thee every hour
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
I need thee every hour
Most Holy one;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27TH 2018- HE SETS THE CAPTIVE FREE

Memorise: Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. Psalm 91:3
Read: Isaiah 49:24-26
24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 25-26, Luke 11:33-12:7

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The reason why some children of God miss their day of visitation is that they don’t take prophetic utterances from God seriously, whether written or spoken. For this reason, I encourage you to see the words of our devotional today as prophetic, coming to you from your Maker who can never live.
2. By the word of the Lord, I proclaim to you that this is the day of your freedom. It shall be unto you as it is written in psalm 91:3, which says: “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”
3. In today’s Bible reading, the Lord as the Almighty specifically declares His ability to set the captives free, including lawful captives. Beloved, the meaning of this scripture is that those who willingly got themselves into bondage and are tired of staying there are candidates for God’s deliverance.
4. Some people think that once someone willingly enters into witchcraft, the occult, secret societies, and the like, he or she can never be free again, but going by what the Lord declares in Isaiah 49:24, this is not true. The last verse of today’s Bible reading contains the key to experiencing the divine intervention that the Lord declares in the preceding verses, and this is where there could be a challenge. It reads in part: “… and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy savior and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.”
5. What constitutes the challenge in this verse? The promise to deliver is only for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Redeemer.
6. I once ministered deliverance to a traditional title holder in Nigeria, and it got to the point where he needed to accept Jesus as His savior. Amazingly, he refused. All he wanted was God’s benefit of deliverance without submitting to His Lordship. Unfortunately, he died while still in the valley of indecision about accepting the Lord. So, the choice is yours today. Isaiah 1:19 says: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
7. If you willingly submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ over your life, He will not only set you free, He will also ensure that your freedom is permanent by destroying all your oppressors, as He did to the Egyptians in the Red Sea (Exodus 14:26-28)
8. The Lord of Hosts be praised! Amen.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Romans 10:13 says “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” This is a clear statement which shows that salvation brings safety and deliverance to the bound. However, it is a matter of choice as said by our father in the Lord in today’s devotional. I advice you to choose life (Jesus Christ). May God continually increase and empower Pastor E.A Adeboye for greater works in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, with thanksgiving in my heart, I receive Your promised deliverance and freedom today, in Jesus’ name.
Hymn
Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can eer pereval.
Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.
In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.
Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26TH 2018- WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?

Memorise: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luke 10:27
Read: Luke 10:25-37
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.
35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 23-24, Luke 11:14-32

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The title of today’s devotional is a question which precipitated the parable of the Good Samaritan. This question is even more relevant today because the character of good neighborliness is fast becoming a scarce commodity.
It is even more astonishing to find out that the brotherly love that helped the Church to grow in the early days of the Chrsitan faith is dwindling among 21st century believers but this should not be so. In Galatians 6:10, the Holy Spirit answered the question of who our neigbour is when He admonished us thus: “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
To prevent any ambiguity, the Holy Spirit also gave us practical examples of what He meant in the above scripture in James 2:15-16, saying: “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”
Through this scripture, the Holy Spirit is saying that there is no good neighbourliness in theoretical spirituality that is not accompanied by action. In today’s Bible text, our Lord used the actions of the Samaritan to vividly illustrate good neighborliness, contrasting his charitable deeds against the selfish attitudes of the priest and the Levite. It is unfortunate that the actions of the latter two reflect what is happening among Christian brethren today. To the pastor, the sick child of a neighbor may die, as long as he is not late to preach somewhere. A chorister would not want to be late for choir practice, even though her fellow sister is critically ill somewhere.
Beloved, the Holy Spirit demands that we add virtue to our faith (2 Peter 1:5). When we add the virtue of good deeds to our faith, the task of evangelizing the world will become very easy to accomplish. The story was told of the General Overseer of a reputable church in Lagos, Nigeria, whose decision to accept Christ was motivated by the kindness of a Christian couple during the Nigerian civil war. He wondered what kind of people would give a bowlful of rice to him, a hungry fugitive who was about to die, at a time when food was terribly scarce. He found out that they were Christians, and there and then he decided to join them in serving Jesus. Beloved, let your faith come alive today with good works.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to add the virtue of good neighborliness to my faith, so that the light of Christ may shine through me to the world.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25TH 2018- THINGS MONEY CANNOT DO

Memorise: But Peter said unto him, thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Acts 8:20
Read: Luke 12:15-23
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 21-22, Luke 10 :38-11:13

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One of the fallacies of life is the notion that when you have money, you have everything. How untrue this is! My experiences in ministry have taught me that there is so much that money cannot do. For example, money cannot make a barren woman conceive. If you doubt this, ask the wealthy Shuanamite woman (2 Kings 4:8-17). It is amazing that when Elisha asked this woman what she desired, she momentarily forgot or pretended to forget that there was something she lacked which her money could not buy, which was a child (2 Kings 4:13). Irrespective of this, in 2 Kings 4:16, Elisha declared to her: “…About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.”
2. Why did she doubt Elisha’s declaration? It was because she considered it too good to be true! She also probably felt that whatever money could not do, nothing else could do it. I have good news for a user of this devotional: that need that money has failed to meet in your life, which you have used good money to travel across several hospitals in the world to resolve to no avail, you will receive it this season in Jesus’ name.
3. I was once invited to preach in an area where the “who is who” in Nigeria reside. When I got to the particular house I was invited to and I saw money in action, I decided to change my sermon to something like “it is good to bless the Lord”, because I could not imagine that family having a single need; but I was wrong. Before long, I realized that there was problem money could not solve in that family, so I introduced them to the God with whom there is no impossibility. At the end of the day, God resolved the problem that money could not solve for them. God will solve the problem that has defied the power of money in your life today in Jesus Name.
4. Today’s Bible reading narrates the interesting story of a man who was very successful in his farming business. Although most rich men are never satisfied with the amount of wealth they possess, this particular one was so rich that he planned to retire from creating more wealth.
5. Shame to money that cannot save its owner from death!
6. If money cannot save from physical death, how would it save a person from eternal death? Jesus said the foolishness of this rich man is applicable to those who lay up earthly treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God (Luke 12:21). Are you one of such people?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Money cannot buy a lot of things and salvation is one of such things. We can enjoy endless joy and possibilities only when we surrender to Christ. May God bless and empower Pastor E.A Adeboye for greater works in Jesus name.

Prayer Point: Father, please bestow on me blessings that surpass what money can buy in Jesus Name.
