OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 2018- WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?

Memorise: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luke 10:27
Read: Luke 10:25-37
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 23-24, Luke 11:14-32

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The title of today’s devotional is a question which precipitated the parable of the Good Samaritan. This question is even more relevant today because the character of good neighborliness is fast becoming a scarce commodity. It is even more astonishing to find out that the brotherly love that helped the Church to grow in the early days of the Chrsitan faith is dwindling among 21st century believers but this should not be so. In Galatians 6:10, the Holy Spirit answered the question of who our neigbour is when He admonished us thus:
“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
2. To prevent any ambiguity, the Holy Spirit also gave us practical examples of what He meant in the above scripture in James 2:15-16, saying:
“If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warned and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”
3. Through this scripture, the Holy Spirit is saying that there is no good neighbourliness in theoretical spirituality that is not accompanied by action. In today’s Bible text, our Lord used the actions of the Samaritan to vividly illustrate good neighborliness, contrasting his charitable deeds against the selfish attitudes of the priest and the Levite. It is unfortunate that the actions of the latter two reflect what is happening among Christian brethren today. To the pastor, the sick child of a neighbor may die, as long as he is not late to preach somewhere. A chorister would not want to be late for choir practice, even though her fellow sister is critically ill somewhere.
4. Beloved, the Holy Spirit demands that we add virtue to our faith (2 Peter 1:5). When we add the virtue of good deeds to our faith, the task of evangelizing the world will become very easy to accomplish. The story was told of the General Overseer of a reputable church in Lagos, Nigeria, whose decision to accept Christ was motivated by the kindness of a Christian couple during the Nigerian civil war.
5. He wondered what kind of people would give a bowlful of rice to him, a hungry fugitive who was about to die, at a time when food was terribly scarce. He found out that they were Christians, and there and then he decided to join them in serving Jesus. Beloved, let your faith come alive today with good works.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

One bitter truth that many believers ignore today is the fact that pleasing God is not complete without peaceful relationship with neighbors. God expects you to follow peace with men and let your light reflect for them to see the glory of God in you. Let us not also forget that the bible says “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:” meaning that people around us look at our character to determine their decisions. The question is who are you to your neighbors? Glory to God for yet another awesome devotional by Pastor E.A Adeboye.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to add the virtue of good neighborliness to my faith, so that the light of Christ may shine through me to the world.
Hymn 12
1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne
6. Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25 2018- THINGS MONEY CANNOT DO

Memorise: But Peter said unto him, thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Acts 8:20
Read: Luke 12:15-23
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 21-22, Luke 10 :38-11:13

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One of the fallacies of life is the notion that when you have money, you have everything. How untrue this is! My experiences in ministry have taught me that there is so much that money cannot do. For example, money cannot make a barren woman conceive. If you doubt this, ask the wealthy Shuanamite woman (2 Kings 4:8-17). It is amazing that when Elisha asked this woman what she desired, she momentarily forgot or pretended to forget that there was something she lacked which her money could not buy, which was a child (2 Kings 4:13). Irrespective of this, in 2Kings 4:16, Elisha declared to her:
“…About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto mine handmaid.”
2. Why did she doubt Elisha’s declaration? It was because she considered it too good to be true! She also probably felt that whatever money could not do, nothing else could do it. I have good news for a user of this devotional: that need that money has failed to meet in your life, which you have used good money to travel across several hospitals in the world to resolve to no avail, you will receive it this season in Jesus’ name.
3. I was once invited to preach in an area where the “who is who” in Nigeria reside. When I got to the particular house I was invited to and I saw money in action, I decided to change my sermon to something like “it is good to bless the Lord”, because I could not imagine that family having a single need; but I was wrong. Before long, I realized that there was problem money could not solve in that family, so I introduced them to the God with whom there is no impossibility. At the end of the day, God resolved the problem that money could not solve for them. 4. God will solve the problem that has defied the power of money in your life today in Jesus Name. Today’s Bible reading narrates the interesting story of a man who was very successful in his farming business. Although most rich men are never satisfied with the amount of wealth they possess, this particular one was so rich that he planned to retire from creating more wealth.
5. Shame to money that cannot save its owner from death! If money cannot save from physical death, how would it save a person from eternal death? Jesus said the foolishness of this rich man is applicable to those who lay up earthly treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God (Luke 12:21). Are you one of such people?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Money truly has its limit as rightly explained above, shame is the wealth and money that cannot save its owner from death. Let us not be deceived, money cannot buy everything. A good example is that of death. We can also conclude that money cannot buy peace and joy, otherwise most challenges faced by many so called rich men today would have been eliminated. We pray that the Lord opens the eyes of many to accept Christ and have an intimate relationship with the Almighty God to have access to eternal life. Thank you Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional, more Grace sir.

Prayer Point:
Father, please bestow on me blessings that surpass what money can buy in Jesus Name.
Hymn
1. I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
2. I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
3. I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
4. I need Thee every hour
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
5. I need thee every hour
Most Holy one;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24 2018- A MICROWAVE CHRISTIAN?

Memorise: But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4
Read: John 11:18-26
Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 17-20, Luke 10:17-37

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Impatience is the younger sister of doubt because when someone is impatient, the fellow may not be able to operate under the divine time-table. Impatience can cause a person to doubt the integrity of the Ever Faithful God. The devil uses impatience as a tool to sow doubt in the minds of believers, so much so that some even begin to doubt the infallible word of God. for this reason, James 1:4 says:
“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing”
2. The blessings attached to being patient are many. For example, in our memory verse, the Holy Spirit reveals that a patient fellow will lack nothing good. This may sound foolish to the carnal mind, but iti is the truth of God’s word. The carnal mind is tuned to believe that by being impatient, more can be achieved and more can be amassed, but this is a lie of the devil.
3. In today’s Bible reading, impatience almost destroyed the faith of Mary and Martha. As a matter of fact, they indirectly indicated Jesus of their brother’s death because He came to them at a time they considered to be too late, after He had received their message notifying Him of Lazarus sickness. John 11:21 says:
“Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.”
4. What an indictment! By this comment, they doubted the extent to which Jesus actually loved their family. This probably accounts for why Jesus wept in John 11:35, after Mary repeated the same accusation (John 11:32). It is dangerous to be a “microwave Christian” who always expects things to happen when you feel they must happen. A microwave Christian is like an infant who reacts to and cries for everything that causes discomfort.
5. The Holy Spirit describes the state of such Christians in 1 Corinthians 3:13. Some brethren feel offended and therefore decide to leave a church when the promotion they believe they are due for is not forthcoming from the church authorities. Some others feel victimized when they are transferred from their station of comfort, even resorting to blackmail in some cases. Some even give God an ultimatum on when a miracle must “drop”, or else they won’t serve Him anymore. All these examples may sound unbelievable, but they are true life experiences. Beloved, it is time to grow up from the stage of infancy. God expects you to become not just a meat eater but a bone cracker. May the Lord cause you to grow in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

One of the weapons of the devil to rob many believers of their potential divine blessing is impatience and it must be dealt with. Many have lost opportunities and blessings as a result of that small voice of the devil that their expectations is getting too longer and therefore derailed from the perfect will of God. Many forgot that God is not a magician, patience is required to get full benefits of God’s provision.May God honour and bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for this wonderful devotional.

Prayer Point: Father, please help me to grow in patience and keep me standing for You till the very end in Jesus’ Name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23 2018- DON’T BE AN ACCOMPLICE!

Memorise: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 2 John 1:11
Read: Ephesians 5:1-8Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 16-17, Luke 9:51-10:16

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. It is unfortunate that sin abounds in the Church today because we do not collectively abhor evil deeds anymore. Instead of hating what is evil, we actually celebrate sinners, and by so doing, we ignorantly become accomplices of their evil deeds. We no longer follow the instruction of the Holy Spirit in 1 Timothy 5:20, which says:
“Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.”
2. Our modern approach is contrary to this scripture because we want to do church in a ”civilized’ manner, and they ended up becoming corrupted. Proverbs 24:23-25 says:
“These things also belongs to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgement. He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.”
3. This scripture reveals the danger of being the accompliance of an evil doer and also the blessing attached to detesting and rebuking evil. Romans 12:9b also says:“Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
4. This is what is missing in the church today. My prayer is that the Almighty God will revive the church, and evil deeds shall become alien to the Body of Christ in Jesus’ Name.
The task of rebuking evil is divine, and whoever will perform this task must live above reproach (Romans 2:20-23). He or she must also be ready for persecution and blackmail. However, we should not be deterred by these, because evildoers also did the same to the prophets of ol. In Matthew 5:10-12, our, our Lord Jesus Christ said:
“Blesses are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
5. Jeremiah is a classic example of someone who was maligned for rebuking evil in high places. He was indeed a sad prophet. He lamented the evil of his time so much that a whole book out of the 66 books of the Bible was dedicated to his lamentation. Similarly, even though John the Baptist was the greatest of all men that lived before Christ, his head ended up on a plate because he spoke out against evildoers (Matthew 11:11, Mark 6:25-28). Nevertheless beloved, these sufferings are more tolerable than the judgement reserved for being the accomplice of evildoers. May the Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

This message is for the entire body of Christ, It is high time we start to abhor evil and wicked deeds in our churches and even among Christians. Rebuke is of God and it is for edification and the growth of the church. As we read in the scripture the consequence of embracing evil instead of hatred ” Proverbs 24:23-25 says:
“These things also belongs to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgement. He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.” why not choose to love righteousness and have total hatred for evil. God bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Prayer Point: Father, let righteousness become the resonating song in the Body of Christ all over the world.
Hymn
1. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished
And Christ is Lord indeed.
2. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The rumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger.
And strength to strength oppose.
3. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
Ye dare not trust your won
Put on the Gospel armor,
And, watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.
4. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long:
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He, with the King of glory,
Shall reign eternally.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, OCTOBER 22ND 2018- ANTIDOTE TO TEMPTATION

Memorise: Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. Luke 12:37
Read: Matthew 13:24-26
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 14-15, Luke 9:28-50

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Temptation is the pressure to yield to influence that can lead a person away from God and into sin.
2. It is also the means by which the loyalty, commitment and obedience of a child of God is tested and proved.
3. Temptation is a part of life that no one can escape from, because nobody is protected or exempted from its influence. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself experienced temptation (Hebrews 4:15).
4. The one who orchestrates temptations, also known as the tempter, is the devil (Mathew 4:3). He has perfected highly deceptive means of carrying out his evil enterprise, because he has been long at it. however, glory to God because the Lord has developed a way of escape for every type of temptation the devil can come up with (1 Corinthians 10:13). If we refuse to use the means of escape provided by God, we will end up falling for the devil’s tricks and disobeying God. This can have devastating repercussions, as seen in the fall of mankind through temptation and the judgement of God which followed (Genesis 3:1-21). It is therefore important for us to learn how to overcome temptation and also reduce our exposure to it by applying the antidote provided by the Lord.
5. In the last few hours before our Lord Jesus Christ was arrested, knowing what was about to happen shortly, He gave the disciples the antidote to temptation, saying in Matthew 24:26: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” In this verse of scripture, He named watchfulness and prayer as the antidotes to temptation.
6. Watchfulness is the state of being alert and expectant while carefully observing emphasis on the need to keep watch for two important events: the second coming of our Lord and the devil’s temptation, which is our focus today.
7. We are called to be alert to the dangers posed to our Christian life by false teachings, worldliness, love of money, inordinate ambition, sinful pleasure, sexual immorality, and all other forms of temptation.
8. Your watchfulness should begin with the admonition of Proverbs 4:23, which says: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
9. Romans 12:2 also speaks about renewing your mind, and this is best done by filling your heart with the undiluted word of God.
10. Another aspect of watching is bridling our tongue in order not sin with it (1 Peter 3:10, James 1:26). For your faith not to suffer shipwreck due to temptation, you are called by God to soberly watch and be prayerful (1 Peter 4:7).
11. Are you keeping watch?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:8‭-‬11 May God continually uphold and strengthen Pastor E.A Adeboye in Jesus name

Prayer Point: Father, please don’t’ allow any temptation derail my Christian journey in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
Conquerors and overcomers now
are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ
we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never
Fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty powe
Can e’er prevail.
Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of
Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the
blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.
In the name of Israel’s God we’ ll
Onward press,
Overcoming sin and all
Unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise
Shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought
victory.
Unto Him that overcometh shall
be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent
from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm
Shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21ST 2018- YOU CAN BE PERFECT

Memorise: Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God. Hebrews 6:1
Read: Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 11 – 13, Luke 9:7-27

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Many Christians believe that it is humanly impossible to be perfect because of the limitations of our flesh, but Jesus said that we should be perfect, just as our Father in Heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48). For Jesus to have said this, it means that perfection is attainable. However, the only way to attain the level of perfection that God requires of us is to follow the example which He has set, and that example is the Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus was on earth, He lived a life of perfection. Hebrews 4:15 testifies to this saying:
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
2. Just as Jesus was able to live a spotless life while He was on earth, it is also possible for us to live a life of absolute purity and holiness, which is pleasing to God.
In Luke 9:23, our Lord told us how to follow His example to live a holy life, saying:
“…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
3. In other words, you must first deny yourself if you will follow His lead. Denying yourself means letting go of your old nature. To live holy, you may have to change your friends, some places you go to, the websites you visit and your old habits. You will also need to deny your body some of the pleasures it used to enjoy. No matter how much the flesh craves alcohol, hard drugs, illicit sex, stealing, lying and the like, you must not let it have its way. To successfully live as the new creature you are, your old man must die first. When you slap a dead man, he does not get up to retaliate because there is no more life in him. In the same way, you must deny yourself to the point where your former cravings become completely dead.
4. Secondly, you must carry your cross daily. Many Christians make the mistake of planning to live a holy life without consciously taking it a day at a time. The reason you don’t have bad breadth is because you brush your teeth daily. Your body remains clean because you take your bath daily.
5. Similarly, the way to keep your spirit clean is to carry your cross daily. When you wake up every morning, turn to God and tell Him to help you live holy throughout that day; then say to yourself with determination, “Throughout today, I must not commit any sin.” When you make this a habit, you will discover after some time that you have been successfully living a holy life.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Brethren, until you realise that everywhere you find yourself, God is present and therefore do everything not to sin against your maker, pleasing your maker might be difficult. As Apostle Paul urged the church to work out their salvation with fear, let’s encourage ourselves and fear God regardless of where we find ourselves and it shall be well with us in Jesus’ name.

Key Point:
Rather than concluding that it is impossible to live holy, why don’t you take steps towards if with God’s guidance?
Hymn
1. Nearer, my God, to Thee;
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
2. Though, like a wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
3. There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that Thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
4. Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20 2018- A GREAT SECRET OF OVERCOMERS

Memorise: And that from a child thou hast know the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15
Read: Matthew 4:1-11
4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 9-10, Luke 8:40-9:6

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The term ‘overcomer’ is used in Christian parlance to describe a champion, victor or conqueror. It describes a person who has run the Christian race and finished it triumphantly. In His letters to the seven churches of Asia, the Lord revealed seven different rewards He would give to those who fit this description (Revelation 2-3). Beyond these seven rewards, in Revelation 21:7, the Father Himself promised one final reward for overcomers, saying:
“he that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
2. How amazing! If I were you, I would strive very hard to partake of these rewards. To qualify as an overcomer, I recommend that you first take a look at the life of those who ran the Christian race before you and overcame. This will help you understand the secrets of how they succeeded, and you can then apply those principles in your own heavenly race. Let’s take a look at the greatest of these overcomers, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 3:21). Of all the battles He won, He triumphed over the devil in two spectacular ways that are worthy of mention.
3. First, in our Bible text, He was engaged by the devil in a crucial contest and He knocked the devil out through the power of God’s word. Secondly, although the devil masterminded His arrest, trial and execution, the Lord still triumphantly worked out the miracle of His resurrection from the dead. Colossians 2:15 says,
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
Through His death, the Lord defeated the devil in hell and paraded him and his cohorts in an open show of shame, confirming His supremacy over the kingdom of darkness. I pray that you will comprehend and begin to walk in the victory of Jesus from today in Jesus’ Name.
4. While He was in this world, what was at the main weapon used by the Lord in overcoming? It is God’s word. Several time, He quoted the scirptures as a weapon against the devil. God gave us His word as a tool for developing strong faith and confidence in Him. We are nurtured in faith and brought to spiritual maturity through His word. Remembering God’s great deeds in the past builds up our hope in Him (Romans 15:4).
5. Besides giving us hope, God’s word is also a potent weapon of warfare against the kingdom of darkness (2 Corinthians 10:4). It is empowered to pull down the strongholds of sin, sickness, generational curses and death. It also has the power to break yokes of failure, bareness and poverty.
6. I therefore decree that the power in the word of God will completely destroy every yoke in your life today in Jesus’ name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

The bible says And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. When we truly submit ourselves unto God there is no battle in this age and the ages to come that can overpower us. God is interested in His Children that will engage in spiritual warfare with the devil and his agents. May the Lord grant us the power to always prevail over the devil.

Prayer Point:
Father, please grant me grace to finish the race as an overcomer in Jesus’ name.
HYMN
1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can eer pereval.
Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.
2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.
3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19TH 2018- JESUS: THE WAY

Memorise: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
Read: Matthew 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 7-8, Luke 8:22-39

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In John 14:6, the Lord Christ made a declarative statement to Thomas, which even today some archbishops cannot fathom. He said: What did Jesus mean when He called Himself the Way?
2. After Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, there was a break in the connection that existed between God and break in the connection that existed between God and man. From the moment, mankind has continually made efforts to find God because of the emptiness that exists in us without God. Revealing this emptiness and the resulting search for God, in Acts 17:26-27, the Holy Spirit said: “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one us:”
3. The drive to fill this void is seen in the abundance of different religions in the world today, with each one recommending its own way to God. Having seen the end from the beginning, Jesus knew that this time would come, and so He said very clearly to all who will listen, “I Am the Way.” He is the only Way to God, and there is no other way to get to God except through Him.
4. Because of the diverse doctrines around, you need to be careful and ensure that you have found the true God.
5. You need to be sure that you are not just deluded into thinking you have obtained salvation and that you are on your way to heaven. Any other way to God that is not through the Lord Jesus Christ is counterfeit. Are you in any religion that doesn’t recognize Jesus Christ as the way to God? are you in any church that glorifies her General Overseer or leader rather than the Lord Jesus Christ? Does your church propagate its own doctrines rather than the word of God as written in the Bible? It is time to come out of such an assembly and seek the one true God through Jesus Christ.
6. Another thing Jesus meant when He said is the Way is that He is the perfect example to follow if you want to please God.
7. Don’t make any man your standard because man will disappoint you.
8. Our standard is Jesus Christ and Him alone, it is possible to attain Christ’s level of perfection here on earth, and this is why He gave us the Holy Spirit when He was leaving the earth.
9. Are you going to Heaven through The Way, and are you walking in His footsteps?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Jesus is the only answer to all the issues we are encountering in this life. Without Jesus we are nothing and lifeless. That is why the Bible says; “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John‬ ‭8:12‬. Whoever doesn’t have him is living in darkeness of life and such is surrounded with frustrations. That is why in the body of Christ, we must continue to establish the truth without compromise that Jesus is the only way. Glory to God for Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Key Point: There is only one way to God; if you are not going through that Way, then you cannot reign with Christ in paradise
Hymn
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
Though none go with me, still I will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
No turning back, no turning back.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18 2018- A SON INDEED?

Memorise: But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Hebrews 12:8
Read: Hebrews 12:4-11
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 5-6, Luke 8:4-21

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Discipline is the act of training a person to obey rules and follow instructions, which sometimes involves corrective punishment for wrongdoing. The Bible clearly establishes that God expects parents to discipline their children (Proverbs 23:13-14, Ephesians 6:4). Parents who failed in this responsibility suffered grave consequences, as seen in the example of Eli (1 Samuel 2:27-34).
2. Being a just God, He cannot require discipline from earthly parents and fail in His responsibility to discipline His own children, as the Heavenly Father. All acts of disciplining God’s children ultimately come from God, and the methods used are determined by Him. However, His motive is always love, while His goal remains making us partakers of His holiness (Hebrews 12:10). God disciplines His children as part of His covenant with them. Consequently, only disciplined children of God access to His covenant blessings. Job 36:10-11 says:
“He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.”
3. Interestingly, God in His infinite wisdom has set discipline as the number one criteria for ascertaining true children of God. Hebrews 12:8 says,
“But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”
Consequently, if you notice that you are getting away with sin and immorality without any type of warning or discipline from God, then you can be sure that heaven does not recognize you as a true child of God. As soon as a person accepts the Lordship of Jesus Christ, he or she becomes a genuine member of God’s family, and the love of God will immediately kick-start the process of discipline in order to bring the new convert to perfection in due time.
4. May you always cooperate with God for the purpose of receiving proper discipline in Jesus’ Name.
As a child of God, receiving divine discipline with humility comes with great benefits. Discipline prevents children of God from going astray and brings us to perfection. It also makes us humble, wise and successful, helping us acquire spiritual growth and maturity.
5. Disciplined Christians easily overcome temptation. They are like smooth stones in the hands of God and are mightily used by Him against the kingdom of darkness. Open your heart to receive godly discipline and correction today.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Being a true son requires obedience to the father. It is good for us to know that when God chastises, it is for our own good and the truth is that God intention is to bring us to perfection. We pray that none of us will become too big to be corrected by God in Jesus’ name. Thanks to Pastor E.A Adeboye for this wonderful devotional, we pray that in Heaven none of us shall be found missing in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point:
Father, as I commit myself anew to Your discipline today, help me humbly receive Your corrections is Jesus’ Name.
Hymn2
1. I need Thee every hour,
Chorus:
Oh! Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
2. For my cleansing this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
For my pardon this my pleas
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
3. Nothing can my sin erase
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
Naught of works, ‘tis all of grace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
4. This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
