OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 2018- WORSHIP DOES IT

Memorise: But the our cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23
Read: Matthew 15:21-28
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Bible in one year: Ezekiel 8-10, Luke 22:39-62

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

Anyone who has a revelation of what worship does to true and genuine worshipers is blessed indeed. The story in today’s Bible text reveals the practical impact of worship. In that story, our Lord Jesus Christ was approached for help by a Syro-Phoenician woman whose daughter was grievously possessed by a demon. The Bible says He did not pay any attention to her, and so His disciples advised that He should just send her away. However, instead of sending her away, Jesus opened the door of opportunity to dialogue with her and bring her to the saving knowledge of the God of Israel. He said, “ I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel”. This was the hint this woman needed to turn the situation around. On hearing this, she did something which is the focus of our reflection today. Matthew 15:25 says:
“Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.”
This action by the Syro-Phoenician woman ensured that Jesus continued to hear her. In their ensuing dialogue, she demonstrated persistent faith which the Lord’s anointing could not resist. Jesus commended her faith which was borne out of spiritual humility, saying to her:“O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.” Matthew 15:28b.
There are many lessons to learn from this story, but central to these lessons is the art of worship. We should always remember that all men are the same before God, and the purpose of their existence is to worship their Maker. Whether mankind likes it or not, a day is coming when we shall all worship before God. speaking concerning this, Psalms 86:9 says:
“All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O LORD; and shall glorify thy name.”
Our memory verse reveals that the Father seeks those who worship Him. Beloved, worship does what no other thing can do in the place of prayer. What can anyone do that would make God do what He wouldn’t have done otherwise? The answer is worship. David worshiped God and God established a dynasty for him. His son worshiped God through unprecedented sacrifice and got more than he bargained for (1 Kings 3:4-13). The Syro-Phoenician woman worshiped Jesus Christ and a dog outside the kingdom became a child of the kingdom. As a matter of fact, some dogs worship their owners and eventually eat from their master’s table! Beloved, I want to encourage you to always engage in genuine worship, and you will be amazed by the great breakthroughs you will begin to experience.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Action Point:
Spend quality time worshiping God today and see how He will rise on your behalf.
HYMN
1. Now thank we all our God
With heart and hands and voices
Who wondrous things has done,
In whom his world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms
Has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
And still is ours today.
2. O may this bounteous God
Through all or life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts
And blessed peace to cheer us,
To keep us in his grace,
And guide us when perplexed,
And free us from all ills
Of this world in the next.
3. All praise and thanks to God
The Father now be given,
The Son and Spirit blest,
Who reign in highest heaven
The one eternal God,
Whom heaven and earth adore,
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15 2018- GLORY NOT IN SELF

Memorise: And whosever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Matthew 23:12
Read: Isaiah 14:12-17, Luke 18:10-13
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
0 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Bible in one year: Ezekiel 5-7, Luke 22:14-38

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. To glory in self is to exalt one’s own worth above what really is. It is the act of perceiving yourself as overly important. A person who glories in self is a person who thinks he stands on his own merits and by his own power. This is the reason why the father of lies, Satan, was cast down from heaven. Indeed, Satan is a classic example of someone who gloried in self. He exalted himself above what he really was, and he started to think of himself as better than everyone else, including God. Glorying in self has its roots in self-deception; it starts when a man deceives himself into thinking and believing in a false idea of himself.
2. Glorying in self might not be obvious at first. It is a very dangerous character flaw that sometimes creeps in on children of God until it leads them to doom. What then are the signs that a person glories in self? One indicator is when you feel the need to parade in public what should and can be done in private. This was one of the issues Jesus had with the Pharisees. They would rather pray in public than pray behind closed doors, and when they fasted, they ensured that is showed on their faces, just so that everyone knew they were fasting. Even today, some people ensure that every good thing they do is done from rooftops, so that people will see and praise them. 3. In addition, people who glory in self tend to talk about themselves a lot. This is majorly because they feel the need to constantly list out their accomplishments and achievements. They are always quick to say “I” even when “we” is the appropriate thing to say. People who glory in self honestly feel that they are better than everyone else.
Luke 18:10-13 shows a clear difference between a self-glorifying person and a humble person. While humble people see themselves as needing God’s grace and mercy, self-glorifying people think that their actions are perfect enough to dignify them before God and man.
4. A self-glorifying person will never get anything from God. Only a person who recognizes his or her need for God’s help and asks for it will get it. Glorying in elf is very dangerous because at the end of the day, every single thing that person thinks he or she has accomplished will be taken away, and shame, disappointment and humiliation will be the portion of such a fellow.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

We should all learn from the story of King Nebuchadnezzar. As it is written “All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? God bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Prayer Point:
Father, please remove every trace of s elf-glory in me.
HYMN
1. My faith look up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!
2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh. May my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!
3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14 2018- IT IS A NEW DAWN!

Memorise: We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19
Read: Exodus 12:1-11
And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s passover.
Bible in one year: Ezekiel 3 – 4, Luke 21:29-22:13

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

The children of Israel experienced a new dawn when they left Egypt in circumstances that only God could have made possible. If the Lord could give a new dawn to a nation of slaves, I know that you will also experience a new dawn this season in Jesus’ Name. The Lord told Moses and Aaron that the month of their exodus from Egypt would be the beginning of months to them. In other words, it would become the first month of a new year to them,. To someone using this devotional, regardless of the fact that we are in November, this will be the beginning of months to you because you are entering into your new year this month. You cannot afford to wait till the last day of this year to receive that miracle you desire so much, because the Lord is able and willing to do it now. He has done it before and He will still do it again. We experienced this dimension of the Lord’s move in Nigeria a couple of years ago. The country was severely under siege of a totalitarian ruler, and the children of God were seriously praying for the country’s deliverance. During one of our monthly Holy Ghost Service meetings, the Lord suddenly spoke to me that I should instruct the congregation to greet each other “happy New Year”! Amazingly, this was the middle of the year. As usual, I obeyed my Commander-in-Chief; the brethren greeted each other “Happy New Year”, and we closed the meeting. Barely 48 hours afterwards, the siege over the nation was lifted. Announce to yourself or to those around you that it is a new dawn, and so shall it be in Jesus’ name.
After declaring a new dawn for the Israelite, God dealt with the enemies that held them bound, so much so that their king called for Moses and Aaron in the middle of the night, begging them to lead the Israelite out of his land. These were the same people he had half in captivity for years (Exodus 12:31-33). Beloved, Psalm 126:1 says:
‘When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.”
When the Lord brings you to a new dawn, even your neighbors may not easily recognize you, because your level would have changed drastically. Can you believe that Pharaoh even asked Moses to pray for him! I decree into your life this day, by the time the Lord accomplishes what He intends to do for you, your enemies will come begging for intercessory prayers in Jesus’ Name. Beloved, I announce to you today, it is a new dawn. All that is required of you is to keep to the precepts of God’s word, and don’t ever let it cross your mind to go back to the Egypt of sin again.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13 2018- THIS BOOK OF THE LAW

Memorise: But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. James 1:25
Read: Deuteronomy 30:10-14
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
Bible in one year: Ezekiel 1-2, Luke 21:5-28

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The Bible is indeed a book of law. It is a user’s manual that gives instructions on how best to live our lives successfully. Imagine buying a device you have never used before, only to discover later that its user’s manual is missing! You will either go back to the manufacturer for the manual or try to figure your way around using it. if you go with the latter option, you will have no idea of what you are doing, and if by chance you get the gadget working after playing around with it, you will never fully understand it in its entirety, and so you will not be able to fully optimize its use.
2. That is how it is with our lives. Our lives are like gadget, and the Bible is the manual meant to give us a step by step guide on how to live our lives. Unlike earthly manuals that you can master within a short time and discard eventually, the Bible is a manual that you will need till you breathe your last. As Christians, our physical and spiritual lives are not meant to be average. God expects us to live life at its best, and He has given us the Bible to instruct us on how to achieve this successfully (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
3. The Bible is our book of solutions, containing answers to every problem we may face in this world. At a point in time I was having issues solving a mathematical problem, I was on the right track, but I had so many equations and it was difficult finding a way to solve them all. I decided to take a break and read my Bible. The portion of the Bible I read was where Moses parted the Red Sea.
4. There and then, God told me that I should solve the problem just as the Red Sea was parted in two. He opened my eyes to see that all the equations could be divided into two categories based on certain qualities. Going by this inspiration, I placed some of the equations on the left and some on the right, and having grouped them this way, the problem was easier to work out. I solved those on the left and those on the right independently, and then I brought back together again, just as the Red Sea came back together. That was how I solved the difficult problem and got the correct answer.
5. The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and can only be understood by His help (2 Corinthians 3:6). The more you chew on the word, the more you will see things like God and become like Him. You need to note however that it is not just about reading the Bible, but also about understanding it by the inspiration of the holy Spirit. Whenever you want to study the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it, and before long, you will have deep insights and see things that no one else has seen. You only need to live by God’s instructions in the Bible, for it is only then that the anointing of good success can be activated in your life (Joshua 1:8).

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Can we just deliberate on this scripture to have a better view of why it is important to have it as daily communication “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. God be praised for Pastor E.A Adeboye for the Devotional.
Key Point:
This Book of the law should never depart out of your mouth: is it part of your daily communication?
HYMN
1. I need Thee every hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior!
I come to Thee.
2. I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power
When Thou art nigh.
3. I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain.
4. I need Thee every hour
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill.
5. I need thee every hour
Most Holy one;
Oh, make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12 2018- KEEP YOUR CHILDREN ALIVE!

Memorise: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12
Read: Proverbs 3:1-8
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Bible in one year: Lamentations 3 – 5, Luke 20:27-21:4

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. It is very unfortunate that many parents are the architects of the ultimately demise of their children; not because they are witches or sorcerers, but because they are ignorant of God’s word that keeps people, especially innocent children, alive. The word of God in today’s memory verse is food for thought in this regard.
2. At the initial stage of a child’s life, he or she is ignorant of this scripture; it is therefore the duty of parents to teach them the way of the Lord established in the word of God. it however becomes a compound problem when parents themselves don’t know the way of the Lord. Parents should serve as the voice of God in their children’s lives. Godly parents will echo the word of the Lord in Proverbs 3:5-6, which says;
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge hi, and he shall direct thy paths.”
3. It is saddening to observe that instead of parents teaching their children to trust in the Lord their Maker, they rather teach them to trust in the knowledge derived from the education they spend a fortune to acquire. Some parents even see their children as being wiser than them, simply because these children can relate better with modern gadgets and appliances. Although these appliances can be deployed to serve beneficial purposes, they often mislead and introduce children to emotional, psychological and even spiritual trauma when the use of such devices by these children is not monitored and controlled. Some people read about Eli and his children but don’t seem to learn from it (1 Samuel 2:11-4:18).
4. Many parents are carefree when it comes to discipline, allowing their children to walk directly onto the path of destruction. The Lord was so grieved by the acts of Eli’s children that He declared this frightening judgments on Eli’s household in 1 Samuel 3:12-14:
“In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.”
5. May your household never come under God’s judgement. Beloved, it is better not to bring children into this world than to bring them up without the fear of God. My prayer for you today is that your children will not fall prey to the devil’s destructive works in Jesus’ Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Wisdom is profitable to direct and a word is enough for the wise. Today’s devotional is a food for thought for all parents who desire glorious and blissful future for their children. Teach and lead them in the way of the Lord and when they grow, they will not derail or depart from it. Thank you Pastor E.A Adeboye for reminding our parents their duties.

Prayer Point:
Father, help me to nurture the children You have given me with the spiritual nourishment in Your word. Give them ears that hear You and a heart that obeys You in Jesus’ Name.
HYMN
1. God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the Bible is loved and taught,
Homes where the Master’s will is sought,
Homes crowned with beauty
Your love has wrought;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!
2. God give us Christian homes!

God give us Christian homes

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11 2018- WHAT A GREAT FATHER HE IS!

Memorise: The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. Psalm 146:9
Read: Psalm 68:4-10
4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name Jah, and rejoice before him.
5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
7 O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; Selah:
8 The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.
10 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.
Bible in one year: Lamentations 1-2, Luke 20:1-26

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The God that we serve is a Father who is always present and is ever ready to help. He is full of love, compassion and mercy for all of His children, and He gives each one of them uninterrupted attention. As the Almighty Father, He is capable of giving us everything that we can ever need. He knows His children even more than they even know themselves – He knows their tomorrow and every single detail about them even before they were born.
No matter how great and good an earthly father is, he will still fall short and fail in some aspects of his children’s wellbeing.
2. An earthly father cannot boast of being his children always. An earthly father cannot boast of knowing his children so well that he knows how to conform them at all times. Even when he says he is capable of giving his children everything they ask for, he cannot give them good health, retentive memory, safe journey, and other things that money can’t buy. Our heavenly Father is the perfect Father to the fatherless, and He is a Father that other fathers run to in times of trouble. His love for His children immeasurably surpasses the love that an earthly father has for his children. Some people frown when they hear me call God my Daddy. Well, I don’t know about you, but this God is my Daddy. He has shown so much care to me ever since I met Him that I cannot but see Him as my Daddy.
3. He understands me, comforts me, protects me, heals me, corrects me, helps me and carries me. If God has been all these to you, I want you to take a moment, look up to heaven and just say, “Daddy I love you.”
Have you been fatherless? Have you been lonely? Has your earthly father been distant and cold? Then you need to experience the tender loving kindness of Abba Father. To belong to Him, you need to be reborn by Him. His love is enough to wrap you in warmth for evermore.
4. To enter into this special relationship with Him, confess these words:
Dear God, I come to you in the Name of Jesus. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived. Lord, I want to start afresh; come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Make me a new creature in You. Thank you Abba Father for saving me.
5. After making these confessions in faith, you now need to find a bible-believing church to attend so that you can build the relationship that has just begun between you and this Great Father.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

As stated by the Pastor above “An earthly father cannot boast of knowing his children so well that he knows how to conform them at all times” do not be deceived, God is the only father you can totally rely on for unlimited supply of needs. He is caring and compassionate than any other father or parent you can imagine. Why not choose Him as you father today. More Grace to Pastor E.A Adeboye for this devotional.

Key Point:
God says to you today, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).
HYMN
1. The Great Physician now is near,
The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus!
Chorus:
Sweetest note in seraph song;
Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung:
Jesus, blessed Jesus!
2. Your many sins are all forgv’n
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus;
The veil ‘twixt you and God is riven,
Redemption wrought by Jesus.
3. All glory to the dying Lamb!
I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Saviour’s name,
I love the name of Jesus.
4. His name dispels my guilt and fear,
No other name but Jesus;
Oh, how my soul delight to hear
The precious name of Jesus!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10 2018- HOW TO ACCESS GOOD LIFE

Memorise: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and theat they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10
Read: 1 Peter 3:10-18
10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 52, Luke 19:28-48

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Having access to the good life is not as difficult as some people make it seem. As a matter of fact, living a good life was factored into the creation of man. God first created everything that man would need for a good life before He made man in His own image and set him over all of His other creations (Genesis 1:26-28). The calamity of a life of struggle only came after Eve was deceived into believing the devil’s lies and Adam out rightly disobeyed God. God consequently withdrew aspects of His good life from them (Genesis 3:16-19). However, the good life from God was reinstated through the second Adam, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:12-15).
2. In 1 Peter 3:10-12, the Holy Spirit introduces us to how we can access the good life that Jesus Christ came to restore us to, saying:
“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
3. It would be wise of you to pay attention to the three major things mentioned in this scripture as vital to experiencing the good life. First is your speech. No wonder the Bible says death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). The content and manner of your speech have a great impact on your relationship with God and man. Use the power that tongue possesses to speak life to yourself and everything that concerns you every day. Don’t try to move ahead in life by speaking evil or lying about others.
4. Learn to ask God and man for what you desire for yourself. I pray that God will illuminate your heart to understand the power for good that lies in tongue. The second thing you must watch are your deeds. More often than not, what you work towards in life is what will come to you. The types of problems you solve in this world through your deeds go a long way to determine the type of reward you will receive from God and men. May God give you wisdom to apply this truth towards increasing your reward in life. Third and last of these things is the type of influence you bring to your community.
5. If you work towards peace in your family, community and country, you will also enjoy a good life of peace. What better way is there to influence your world than to preach the good news of the abundant life that Jesus Christ came to give (John 10:10)? When you influence workers of evil to begin to do good, you will definitely experience a good life around you. Are your speech, deeds and influence working together to establish the good life you have received from Jesus Christ?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

The Prayer all believers should always pray is not to engage in any circumstance that will trigger the anger of God because He is the owner of good life and have the ability to affect it. Let us be observant of our speech and deeds ensuring that we make good impact in our communities. May we never experience the anger of God in Jesus’ name. Thank you Pastor E.A Adeboye for this wonderful devotional.

Action Point:
Put to work the power inherent in your speech, deeds and influence to access God’s good life.
1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne
6. Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH 2018- THE LORD IS MY DEFENDER

Memorise: But thou, O LORD, art shield for me; my glory, and the up lifter of mine head. Psalm 3:3
Read: Psalm 3:1-8
1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 51, Luke 19:1-27

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The sure defender of the oppressed is his Maker.
2. David’s personal experience of this truth caused him to pen the words of today’s Bible reading. Is the Lord your defender? Your answer may be “yes”, but your actions may say “no”, in the sense that the fellow you run to determines who your defender truly is. Here is David’s testimony in Psalm 3:4: “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.”
3. Is this also your testimony? Who do you cry to when faced with challenges in life – your biological father, mother, friend or worst of all, a witchdoctor?
4. The story was told of a man who went to consult a witchdoctor for help. The witchdoctor promised to help this man and told him to return in seven days for a charm that would subdue his enemies. When he arrived on the seventh day, he met a lot of people in mourning, and he thought that one of the witchdoctor’s in-patients must have died. To his shock however, when he asked to see the witchdoctor, he was told that the one who promised him victory over his enemies had just given up the ghost. This is the reason why Jeremiah 17:5 says: “Thus saith the LORD; cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”
5. The Psalmist was able to put his trust in the Lord because he refused to be afraid of men, in spite of their fiery looks and large number. In Psalm 3:6, He wrote: “I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.”
6. Anyone who declares such words must have had access to God’s wisdom in Proverbs 29:25, which says: “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” The Psalmist also did something that I would like you to do today: he cried to the Lord. He did not pretend that all was well, like some people do. In Psalm 3:7, He prayed that God should arise and save him. This prayer worked for David, and it will work for you also if you will not have any other god besides the Almighty Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. After crying to God, David affirmed that salvation belonged to Him and that His blessing was upon his people (Psalm 3:8).
7. I pray that the Lord of hosts will defend you and your cause as you cry to Him today in Jesus Name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Action Point: Devote quality time to cry to the Lord, asking Him to arise and defend you today. As you cry out to Him, He will arise in Jesus’ Name.
Hymn
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
Thy fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last,
And our eternal home.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8 2018- KEEP YOUR DREAMS ALIVE

Memorise: I press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

Read: Habakkuk 2:1-3
“I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.”
‭‭

Bible in one year: Jeremiah 50, Luke 18:18-43

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Every child of God is created to be great.  Jesus, the forerunner of our faith and who our life is modeled after, was Himself great.  Angel Gabriel spoke these prophetic words about Him in Luke 1:32:
“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:”
2. Although you might not feel like you are a great person in your present condition, do not lose sight of who you are.  Irrespective of your current condition, God has promised to bring you to an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).  In other words, He will bring you to a place you have always dreamed of getting to.  For this reason, you need to have a dream of what you want your future to look like. You must have dreams, ambitions, hopes and desires to do great things.  The good news is that if your dreams are from God, they will surely come to pass if you don’t give up on them.
3. How does a dream possess a man’s heart? The seeds of dreams are planted in a man’s heart by God Himself.  Your dream must be given to you by God for it to stand the test of time.  God is the Alpha and Omega who sees the end of a thing from its beginning.  He knows your future, and He knows what your capabilities are.  If anyone can give you a dream that will come to pass, it is your heavenly Father.  Joseph’s dreams were given to him by God, and they came to pass despite all the opposing circumstances he went through (Genesis 39 – 41).
4. To receive a dream from God, let your mind be flooded with holy and righteous thoughts, so that it becomes very easy to hear and see what God has n store for you (Philippians 4:8).  You also have to fertilize and water your dreams by being persistent in prayers for their fulfillment.
5. Furthermore, you have to work hard for your dreams to come to pass.  Joseph was never idle. When he was in Potiphar’s house, he was so hard working that his master left the affairs of his entire household in his hands.  Even when he was in prison, he maintained a good relationship with the other inmates and was known for interpreting dreams accurately.  You can’t be idle and expect that your dreams will come to pass by prayers only.  If you expect that somehow your dreams will come to pass by only, you are just joking.  You have to work hard at it.  even if what you find yourself doing right now seems not to have any relevance to the attainment of your dreams, still do it diligently.  Peter was a diligent fisherman, doing his job when he was linked to the fulfillment of his destiny (Matthew 4:18-19).
6. Finally, you have to wait for your dreams to come true.  No matter the situation, you are never to lose sight of the fact that your dreams will come to pass.  Even when it seems like everything is working against the fulfillment of your dreams, hold on to that vision, for it will come to pass

.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

 “

I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.”Habakkuk‬ ‭2:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. This scripture explains the reason why we must learn to continue to wait concerning our dreams and not faint. What dreams do you have today and it seems it’s difficult to accomplish? Do not relax, it will come to pass in due season. May the Lord increase Pastor E.A ADEBOYE in wisdom.

Action Point:
Keep your dreams alive at all coast, and in due season they will become reality.
Hymn
My faith look up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!
2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh. May my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!
3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH 2018- ARE YOU AN UNFRIENDLY FRIEND?

Memorise: Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Proverbs 27:6
Read: Psalm 41:7-13
7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
10 But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
13 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.
Bible in one year: Jeremiah 49, Luke 18:1-17

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In today’s world of social media, the real meaning of friendship is fast fading away. It is becoming more frightening to claim to have friends these days because there are so many deceitful friends out there. The magnitude of this problem increases greatly when people have something to gain from their association with you. Are you one of such unfriendly friends? Is your friendship with people built around the furtherance of your interests? Before you begin to identify those who claim to be your friend but are not really so, ask yourself if you are truly friendly. The wisdom of God in Proverbs 18:24 says: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” One cannot but be amazed by the lamentation of the Psalmist in Psalm 41:9, where he said: “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.”
2. These words perfectly describe the typical character of an unfriendly friend. More often than not, they are very close to their victim. This makes one wonder if they deliberately got close to their victim in order to wreak their havoc.
3. If that is the case, should we not avoid having close friends or any friend at all? I don’t think so; we only need to be prudent in our choice of close friends. An example of Jesus’ choice of associates should help us here. While there were multitudes of followers, He had seventy disciples (Luke 10:1). Among the seventy, He had His core of twelve disciples, and within the twelve, He had three close friends (Mark 3:14, Mark 9:2). Finally, amongst the three, He had one beloved (John 19:26). Note that Judas Iscariot was numbered among Christ’s close friends, so that His destiny as our Redeemer might be fulfilled according to the pattern indicated by scriptures (John 13:17-21).
4. We need to have friends, but the challenge is how to identify good ones.
5. There is one antidote against choosing enemies as friends, which is prayer.
6. Only God knows the hearts of men, and only He can shield us from treacherous friends.
7. Also, the law of harvest applies in friendship. The Lord said you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Luke 6:31).
8. If you are an unfaithful friend, some other people will also be unfaithful to you.
9. Friendship always comes with a price tag; therefore, for those you cannot relate with as friends, I recommend that you relate with them as brethren and co-pilgrims on the way to heaven, doing only that which is needful to help and assist them as God gives you strength.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Unfriendly friends are everywhere that is why it is essential for every believer to be careful whom we choose to be our friends. There are wolves in sheeps clothing. May we never experience such people in our life. God bless Pastor E.A ADEBOYE.

Action Point: If you have hurt anyone by taking undue advantage of their friendship with you, repent and make appropriate restitution.
Hymn
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Chorus:
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it someday for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
In that old rugged cross, I stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ‘twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
To that old rugged cross I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then he’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where his glory forever I’ll share.
