OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY , MARCH 17TH 2017-HOSTS AT HEAVEN'S GATE

Memorise: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
Read: Colossians 3:1-4
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Bible in one year: Exodus 11-12, Isaiah 62

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In the world we live in today, a lot of people are overwhelmed by sorrow and are living in depression. It is therefore no accident that one of the crucial assignments of the Holy Spirit is the work of the comforting the sorrowful and uplifting the depressed (John 16:6-7).
2. His comfort shifts your focus away from your fears, wipes away your tears, sets your mind on the bigger picture you should see, gives you peace in the midst of the storm and gives you a reason to live beyond that moment of depression.
3. In the end, He also gives you strength to help others in similar situations. In any area you need comfort of the Holy Spirit, receive it today in Jesus’ Name!
4. Several years ago, while still lecturing at the University of Lagos, I had a particular student we referred to as Brother Moses. He was a passionate soul-winner. His passion for the lost endeared him to me. We became so close that you would even think he was my biological first-born son.
5. After he graduated from the university, he was posted to the northern part of Nigeria for his mandatory one-year service in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. Within a few months of his service year, his fellow corps members had fallen in love with him. Then suddenly, he died. His fellow corps members could not accept this, and so they began to pray. He died at about 10am and 2pm he came back to life. He told the brethren the Lord asked him to come back to tell them that they were praying the wrong kind of prayers, and that their noise was disturbing Him. The Lord said they should not be praying for Brother Moses to return from glory to join them on earth; they should rather be praying for themselves to finish the race and end up in glory. As soon as he delivered this message, he lay back on the bed and off he zoomed back into glory!
6. When I heard of this incident, I grieved so much. I tried to comport myself with dignity during the Church service but immediately after the service and at other times when I was alone, I wept over and over again. On the third day, the Lord asked me why I was crying. I told Him it was because Brother Moses had died, but He corrected me that I was weeping because of Brother Moses left me behind. Then the Lord asked me this: “How would you feel if you travelled abroad to a place you have never been to and suddenly you bumped into someone you knew before?” I said I would be happy. Then He replied, “When you get to Heaven, Jesus will be there to receive you, but Brother Moses will be there to specially receive you.” That brought comfort to me like nothing else!
7. Beloved, your loved ones who died in the Lord will be waiting for you at Heaven’s gate when your time on earth is up.
8. Just fight the good fight of faith and pray that you finish well.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Hosts at heaven’s gate. Colossians 3:4- When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Some questions are running through my mind this moment. Can you say that truly you have given your life to Christ? Are you sure you are hidden in Christ in God? What effort are you putting into sustaining and maintaining the relationship between you and God? Can you boldly say and affirm that you will end your race in glory? Are you fighting the good fight of faith so as to finish well? As we carefully answer this question, let us make up our minds for a positive change and Set our minds on things above, not on things on the earth. As we do this we can be rest assured that we will be received into glory at Heaven’s gate when we finish our earthly race and ministry. I pray we all will see God in His glory after this earth is gone in Jesus name. We are daily fed with God’s word using this Devotional. May God bless His vessel Pastor E.A Adeboye daily also in Jesus name.

Action Point
Pray that God should cause the leaders of your nation to walk in honesty and truth. Pray also that their hearts will be filled with the fear of God and true love and concern for the people.
HYMN
1 O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found,
Wherever human hearts and human woes abound.
Let every Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound:
The Comforter has come!
Refrain:
The Comforter has come! The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n, the Father’s promise giv’n,
O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!
2 The long, long night is past; the morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast,
As o’er the golden hills the day advances fast!
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
3 Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full deliv’rance brings;
And thro’ the vacant cells the song of triumph rings;
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
4 O boundless love divine! How shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine –
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine?
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, MARCH 16TH 2017-OBEDIENCE AND MIRACLES

Memorise: His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
Read: John 2:1-12
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days
Bible in one year: Exodus 9-10, Isaiah 61

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Besides sowing seeds, obedience is another key factor that can trigger a miraculous harvest in your life. May the Lord grant you grace to obey Him completely in Jesus’ Name.
2. To enter into this realm of the miraculous, all you need to receive is the divine directive, and immediately you comply with it, you will have your miracle.
3. In our Bible reading, Jesus and His mother were invited to a wedding in Cana of Galilee. At some point, they ran out of wine. His mother came to tell Him of their need, but He simply said it was not yet time for a miracle. Pre-empting Jesus, maybe based on experience, Mary told the servants present to wait on Him, receive any instruction from Him and carry it out to the letter.
4. Later, the Lord instructed them to fill up some water pots with water. The servants thought of arguing with Him that what was needed at the party was wine and not water, but remembering Mary’s strict instructions to do whatever He asked them to do, they complied. Therefore, Jesus asked them to fetch some of the water and serve the chairman of the wedding feast. Again, they wanted to argue, but recalling what Mary said, they obeyed. They took it to the chairman but prepared a ready-made answer should he taste it and ask why they served him water. However, on their way, the water became wine.
5. One lesson from this story is that God searches for certain attributes in people before giving them their desired miracles.
6. If you want a miracle, you must approach God in faith (Hebrews 11:6).
7. Also, if there is no divine instruction or word from God backed up by total obedience from man, that miracle may never see the light of day.
8. Before performing a miracle, God searches to see whether there is any word of His to honour by this miracle. In other words, if no prophetic word, word of revelation or promise of the Scripture is available concerning the situation, seeking for a miracle in such a case could lead to disappointment.
9. No wonder the Psalmist in Psalm 138:2 said “I will worship toward thy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
10. In addition, if you truly desire a miracle, you must first crave to be acquainted with the God of miracles.
11. Our God is a God of relationship. He is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24, John 15:15). He can sustain His relationship with you even to generations after you depart from the earth.
12. Lastly, after God has given an instruction, nothing short of total compliance is required to trigger your miracle. To get a miracle, God has His part to play, and so do you. How well are you playing your part?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Obedience does not only bring blessing, it brings glory, life, safety amongst other benefits of obedience. Whenever God gives an instruction that is followed strictly and carefully, testimony of victory, joy, peace and blessing always abound. Disobedience on the other hand never yielded anything good other than death, destruction, dethrone and disgrace. Any wise Christian will always strive to obey God because in obeying God there is great benefit. This portion of today’s devotional is to be meditated upon deeply- To enter into this realm of the miraculous, all you need to receive is the divine directive, and immediately you comply with it, you will have your miracle. I pray the Lord will minister grace to obey unto us in Jesus name. May God continually increase Pastor E.A Adeboye for greater insight into the word of God in Jesus name.

Prayer Point
Father, send me a word that will usher me into a miraculous harvest.
HYMN
O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.
Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.
O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.
Oh, let me see Thy footprints,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15TH 2017-DAVID: A RARE GIVER

Memorise: If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:11.
Read: 1 Chronicles 22:14-16
14 Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORDan hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.
15 Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work.
16 Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.
Bible in one year: Exodus 7-8, Isaiah 60:8-22

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Some people make all kinds of vows, pledges and promises before they receive the blessings of God, but after they experience the blessings, they make no move to keep their promise, redeem their vow or honour the verbal commitment they made to God.
2. If you are one of such people, repent now and make good your promises.
3. If we take a close look at the patriarchs of old, we will find really determined people to learn from amongst them. Take for instance David. He was just a shepherd boy when the Almighty God picked him up and blessed him.
4. What did he do with the blessings? He determined in his heart to build a temple for God, but God said to him, “Your hands are full of blood because you are a warrior. I cannot allow a soldier like you to build me a temple.” Then he replied, “Lord, if you will not allow me to build you a temple, I will provide most of them money needed to do it, while you can set someone else to supervise the building.” In 1st Chronicles 22:14-16, we see David fulfilling his promise to God on this. His heart was there. Most of the gold, silver, bronze and other materials that Solomon needed to build the house to God were provided by David.
5. Moreover, if you look closely at the events in 2nd Samuel 24:22-24, you will discover something about David attitude towards giving. As a matter of principle, he never gave God a causal offering. Any time he had the opportunity to give an offering to God, he gave substantially and did it sacrificially. He delighted in giving wholesomely to God. No wonder he was blessed beyond measure, financially and materially.
6. If you add up what he single-handedly gave for the building of the temple of today’s terms, you can safely say he was a billionaire. He gave 3,400 metric tons of gold, 34,000 metric tons of slivers and so much bronze that it could not be weighed.
7. What is your attitude towards giving? Do you wait to be pushed, compelled or begged before you give to God? What is the most valuable thing you have ever given to God? Are you still in the practice of giving to God only when you can afford to?
8. When you receive God’s exponential blessings, they will be more than what you can handle. They will go far beyond what you need.
9. What then do you want to do with such blessings? Have you told God about it? Do you have a burden or a vision for the Kingdom of God that you will pursue?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

One of God’s nature is giving! And He so much cherish His integrity such that He honours His word. It is therefore expedient that believers live like our heavenly Father and Jesus the son whom we are joint heirs with when saved. If we closely study all the promises of God, we will see that He saw to it that all was fulfilled and even generations after He is still fulfilling His covenant. It is therefore clear that any Christian who is a miser or sees giving as an option is not a good ambassador of Christ. As pilgrims on earth, we must live to fulfill the expectation of the Almighty God and emulate Him in all aspect. When we do otherwise such as making vow and not fulfilling it, giving or sowing sparingly or not sowing at all, we are not exhibiting the traits of God. He owns everything and we should be happy and embrace every opportunity of giving to God or blessing man that comes our way. We should see every giving we make as an opportunity to be blessed and give sacrificially to draw the attention of God for us to mightily blessed in turn. The Lord will help us and give us the grace to fulfil every vow in Jesus name. We are grateful to God for blessing us with Pastor E.A Adeboye who through the Holy Spirit bless us daily with the open Heavens devotional article. God bless him in strength and ability to do more in God’s kingdom in Jesus name.

Action Point
God is the greatest giver, and if you have His nature, you will give sacrificially like HIm.
HYMN
1 When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
when the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Refrain:
When the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
2 On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
and the glory of His resurrection share;
ahen His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. [Refrain]
3 Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun;
let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, MARCH 14TH 2017-STILL KEEPING OLD PALS?

Memorise: and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24
Read: Ephesians 4:17-24
17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of[a] the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Bible in one year: Exodus 4-6, Isaiah 59:16-60:7

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. An encounter with Jesus Christ is such a powerful experience that it can bring about a change of name (Mark 3:16). This change of name indicates a change of destiny.
2. His power of transformation changes you from a sinner to a saint (Romans 1:7).
3. There is no greater change than that of a changed life made possible by the redeeming power in the blood of Jesus Christ.
4. If you were known as a night crawler before encountering Jesus, you will become known as a more responsible person after encountering Him.
5. The truth is, if you really encounter Jesus Christ, you will lose most of your old friends because it would be difficult for them to relate with the new you. They won’t understand you anymore, because you won’t talk the way you used to talk, drink like you used to drink or even dress the way they dress.
6. Following a definite encounter with the person of Jesus Christ, what you like and hate will change, so much so that if you fail to leave your old friends, they will be the ones to desert you.
7. If you say you are born again, and all of your old pals still feel comfortable around you, your salvation is most likely not genuine.
8. Before I became born again, I had many friends, some of whom were sailors. When they returned from their trips, they brought me assorted alcoholic drinks. Therefore, when my friends wanted to drink alcohol, they would visit me because they knew I would have a lot in store. They sometimes said they could not pass by the house of the king without saying hello to the king. I never knew I was king of alcohol in those days. However, after my conversion, when my old friends visited me, I would offer them soft drinks. They would protest, saying that I already knew the choice alcoholic drinks they normally enjoyed, but I simply told them that I did not stock such anymore. Consequently, I lost most of my friends, but today, God has given me like-minded, godly people as replacements.
9. Have you truly encountered Jesus? What changes have you noticed in your life?
10. Are you still keeping all your old friends, or have they observed the changes in your life and dumped you?
11. Sometimes, some people are afraid of losing their old friends, and as a result, they do everything to hide their new found faith from them. This is unacceptable in the Kingdom of God.
12. The reality is that if you have met Jesus, you are linked to the greatest Friend anyone could ever have.
13. You should be proud of that and let all your friends know about it.
14. If you are ashamed of Him here on earth, He too will be ashamed to talk about you in Heaven (Mark 8:38).

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

A new creature can never fit into the old picture of his being. When Christ steps in, the identity changes completely. Everything you do looks strange to your former caucus. This doesn’t mean we should try to adjust just to please them. We should rather joyfully tell them of our new identity in Christ and draw them near to be a partaker. May we never deny our union with Christ just to be friends with the world in Jesus name. James 4:4 says that- Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. We should therefore be grateful for our new life in Christ Jesus and bold declare it to as many as we can as well as call them to join God’s family. God bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for this great insight into the word of God.

Action Point
Some people have bars in their house. If you are truly saved, such bars should not accommodate any alcoholic drinks. Get rid of that alcohol!
HYMN
I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
No turning back, No turning back
Though none go with me still I will follow
Though none go with me still I will follow
Though none go with me still I will follow
No turning back, No turning back
My cross I’ll carry, till i see Jesus
My cross I’ll carry, till i see Jesus
My cross I’ll carry, till i see Jesus
No turning back, no turning back.
The world behind me, the Cross before me
The world behind me, the Cross before me
The world behind me, the Cross before me
No turning back, No turning back

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, MARCH 13TH 2017-CONSPIRACY & FORNICATION

Memorise: Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 1st Corinthians 6:18
Read: Job 5:12-14, 1st Corinthians 6:18-20
12 He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
14 They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.
1st Corinthians 6:18-20
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Bible in one year: Exodus 1-3, Isaiah 58:13-59:15

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. A conspiracy can be defined as a secret plan by a group of persons to do something unlawful or mischievous.
2. Whenever you agree or partner with one or more persons to do something against God’s express word or will, you are guilty of conspiracy.
3. The attitude of the Holy Spirit towards conspiracy is clear from His judgement against Ananias and Sapphira, who conspired to test Him with their lie (Acts 5:1-11). Ahithophel and Absalom also engaged in conspiracy against the Lord’s anointed, King David (2nd Samuel 15:12). They paid for this sin with their lives, and they both died similar deaths through hanging (2nd Samuel 17:23, 2nd Samuel 18:9-14).
4. Do you know that many people still conspire to lie to the Holy Spirit today?
5. When auditors are visiting some churches, their pastors will connive with accountants to present doctored records. On arrival, when the auditor asks the accountant if the books presented are the actual financial records, they would affirm that they are. That is conspiring to lie to the Holy Spirit!
5. Those who engage in conspiracy often die together, just like it happened to Ananias and Sapphira, Absalom and Ahithophel, and Korah, Dathan and Abiram (Numbers 26:9-10).
6. This is where married couples need to be extremely cautious. If your spouse is going the way of destruction, never follow him or her. Do all you can to deliver him, but if the fellow refuses, let him or her take the evil step alone.
7. Are you engaged in a conspiracy to defraud your employer or government? It’s time to pull out of such schemes and repent.
8. In like manner, the Holy Spirit hates adultery and fornication. Why? It is because your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You are His dwelling place.
9. Adultery separates God from His temple. It keeps God outside His throne in your heart.
10. Some people erroneously think that they can fornicate without affecting the presence of the Holy Spirit in them. No way! How can you expect the Holy Spirit, whose personality is defined by holiness, to dwell in a body yielded to filthiness?
11. The Bible in James 4:4 says, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
12. Fornication strips the glory of God away from you and clothes you in rags and shame.
13. There is nothing glorious about sexual sin. It never adds anything to you; rather, it always takes away your prized possessions.
14. Repent and flee fornication daily! Whatever separates God from you is something to resist by all means!

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

“Whatever separates God from you is something to resist by all means!” This is a great advice from our father in the Lord and we must indeed carefully and delibrately avoid anything that ca separate us from God. Anyone God separates Himself from is empty and prone to the devil’s torment. Such person is easily accessible as he or she is unguarded. As we all know that sin is the cause of God separating from His beloved, we should do everything possible to stay away from it. Conspiracy and fornication are two different types of sin pointed out to us in today’s devotional which we should resist with all our might and ask for grace to stay away from. I pray the power to overcome sin is released upon us in Jesus name.

Action Point
Confess and repent of any form of conspiracy of sexual sins you are involved in. Break away from every form of relationship that facilitates these.
HYMN
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary. Refrain
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me. Refrain
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he’ll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I’ll share. Refrain

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, MARCH 12TH 2017-HE LIFTS MATERIAL BURDENS

Memorise: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Read: Luke 13:10-17
10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Bible in one year: Genesis 48-50, Isaiah 58:1-12

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Burdens are loads imposed on a person by the wicked forces of this world or by circumstances of life.
2. They come under certain categories, one of those being physical burdens.
3. Physical burdens are exemplified by the case of Naaman who had an incurable disease (2nd Kings 5:1). Also, the woman with a spirit of infirmity, who could not straighten herself for years, is another case in point (Luke 13:11). No matter how much she tried, everywhere she went, she remained bent. Similarly, the man who had been at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years had a physical burden (John 5:2-9).
4. Do you have a physical burden? Are you physically handicapped? Jesus Christ will lift your physical burdens today! You shall experience a turnaround in Jesus’ Name.
5. Burden could also be material in nature. The widow of Zarephath was carrying a material burden (1st Kings 17:8-16). Things used to be good for her, but her situation deteriorated to the point where she had only one meal to her credit.
6. In addition, the heavily indebted widow of 2nd Kings 4:1-7 was plagued by the debts left by her late husband. The creditors came calling and threatened to enslave her sons. Thank God she knew the right place to run to. She cried to the prophet, who was connected to the Burden Bearer, and the tide turned for her and her children.
7. What about the wedding feast in John 2:1-11? They thought they had everything in place, but midway through the celebration, they ran out of wine. They called on the Burden Bearer and He supplied what was lacking.
8. A very wealthy man with a fleet of 14 cars once picked a quarrel with his wife, and she threatened that by the time she was done with him, he would be trekking about the streets of Lagos, Nigeria. The man laughed it off, not knowing the kind of woman he had as a wife. Not long after, his business began to nose-dive, and things became so bad that at a point, he had only one car left with 50 Kobo in his pocket. Then he reasoned with himself, “If I buy petrol with this money, I will starve, and if I spend the money on food, then I would have to trek in fulfilment of my wife’s evil decree.” That was when he decided to run to Jesus Christ for help, and the Lord turned things around for him. By the time he was sharing this testimony, he was dedicating two new houses on the same day.
9. What material burdens are you carrying presently? If you run to Jesus, He will help you carry it. Through Him all material burdens can be lifted.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 says; Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. This call in Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 is a call to rest and a burden free life. If there is any burden that we desire freedom from, we should not hesitate in running to Jesus because His yoke is easy and his burden is light. May we be free from every burden as we surrender to the burden lifter in Jesus name. May God continually increase Pastor E.A Adeboye for greater insight into the word of God in Jesus name

Key Point
Over the ages, Jesus Christ has borne the burden of many. If you can fully come to Him, He will readily help you carry the load that you cannot bear.
HYMN
1 Through the love of God our Saviour,
all will be well.
Free and changeless is his favour,
all, all is well.
Precious is the blood that healed us,
perfect is the grace that sealed us,
strong the hand stretched forth to shield us,
all must be well.
2 Though we pass through tribulation,
all will be well.
Ours is such a full salvation,
all, all is well.
Happy, still in God confiding,
fruitful, if in Christ abiding,
holy, through the Spirit’s guiding,
all must be well.
3 We expect a bright tomorrow,
all will be well.
Faith can sing through days of sorrow,
‘All, all is well.’
On our Father’s love relying,
Jesus every need supplying,
in our living, in our dying,
all must be well.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SATURDAY, MARCH 11TH 2017-WHEN HIS VOICE THUNDERS

Memorise: For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod. Isaiah 30:3.
Read: Psalms 29:3-9
3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
Bible in one year: Genesis 46-47, Isaiah 57

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” Matthew 8:27
2. Are you currently in a state of perplexity? Does it seem as if the devil has vowed to sink the boat of your life? I have good news for you: he is only joking. Why? One reason why the boat of your life cannot sink is because all the elements, wind, storm and waves working against your boat were created by God, and they must hear His voice and obey Him.
3. The disciples could not believe their eyes when they saw the manifestation of this. Jesus spoke to the contrary wind and the waves of the sea and they obeyed him.
4. This season, everything working contrary to your boat and sail will hear the voice of the Master and beat a retreat in Jesus’ Name.
5. Everything God has created treats His voice with fear and awe.
6. According to today’s reading, this voice is so powerful and awesome that there is no one and nothing that can withstand it.
7. When the Lord speaks, thunder and lightning follow (Isaiah 30:30). When He speaks, the world beholds the true majesty of God. When He speaks, mighty cedar trees are split in pieces. When He speaks, the hottest of fires is cooled. When He speaks, the earth shakes and the wilderness quakes. When He speaks, hidden secrets are exposed and the impossible became possible.
8. What can resist God’s voice? Nothing in or out of this world can!
9. Today, the Lord will speak into your situation and every force or power actively working against you will take their flight. Yes, when He speaks, everything standing in His way will have to give way.
10. At a point in time, the Philistines gathered together to invade Israel like they had done in times past. Samuel cried to the Lord and the voice of the Lord sounded from heaven to roundly defeat them. They never invaded Israel again after this (1st Samuel 7:8-13).
11. As God speaks into your situation today, the speed at which your oppressors will disappear will be quite amazing.
12. Look around you today, what are those things that have refused to let you go forward? Call on the Lord to speak into your situation now and there shall be change.
13. The Lord will speak into your life, family, work place, finances and academics today, and all your enemies shall scatter.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Hallelujah! The voice of the Lord is thunderous and it wraths miracles. Everything about God symbolises His greatness. Powerful question and answer in the second paragraph of today’s devotional. It goes thus: “what can resist God’s voice?” Nothing in or out of this world can! God be praised forever more! It’s my prayer that the Lord will speak into every situation of our lives and turn it around for good for all to see that they may glorify our Father in heaven in Jesus name. God bless Pastor E.A Adeboye for blessing us with the word of God daily. His strength is renewed in Jesus name.

Prayer Point
Father, Lazarus heard Your voice and he came out of the grave. Speak into my life and let every opposing circumstance be silenced now.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: FRIDAY, MARCH 10TH 2017-WHEN GOD LOSES BATTLE

Memorise: Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Psalm 24:8
Read: Acts 7:57-8:4
57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
AND Acts 8:4
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word.
Bible in one year: Genesis 44-45, Isaiah 56

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. For quite a long while in times past, I usually said that the Lord of Host never loses a battle, but quite recently, the Lord corrected me and said, “Son, I can lose a battle to win a war. I never lose a war.” According to His divine wisdom, when it pleases the Lord, He can choose to lose a battle in order to win a war.
2. He can give up a battle, but He has never lost a war. We need to tap into this divine wisdom and apply its principle in our lives. It’s all about looking at the bigger picture. You will gain more from winning a war than from winning a battle.
3. You will also lose more when you lose a war than when you lose a battle. Some people are not ready to lose any battle, and as a result, they lose the war that is more crucial. Take for instance, evangelism. If you go to preach to an individual about Christ and an argument ensues, you are faced with the choice of winning a battle (the argument) or winning the soul of the sinner (a war). If you choose to win the argument, you will most likely lose that soul.
4. This is why you should not get involved in arguments when preaching the gospel to unbelievers. Time to evangelise is not a time to argue about whose religion is more superior.
5. Faith in Christ Jesus is more than just a religion. Simply tell the sinner about Jesus and God’s love towards him or her. Share your salvation experience with him or her. Stir up his or her interest in Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit will do the necessary work of conviction. After playing your part, you can then invite the person to surrender his or her life to Christ.
6. When you observe that God is seemingly losing a battle or battles, it is because there is a bigger war He wants to win. For instance, in the midst of intense persecution of the early Church, God allowed His beloved Stephen to be martyred. Why did He allow this? It’s because He wanted to win the war of saving the ring leader of Stephen’s murderers, Saul. Through Saul, He planned to convert whole cities and to virtually turn the world upside down, and He succeeded in this (Acts 17:6).
7. At the end, it became a double gain for the Lord as Stephen had a triumphant entry into Heaven while Paul, who supervised his martyrdom, became a mightier instrument in the hand of God for the salvation of souls on a massive scale across the globe. This testimony about Paul in Acts 19:26 show the awesomeness of God’s wisdom:“Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:”
8. Anytime you follow God’s wisdom, you will know when to lose a battle in order to win a war.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Our God is an extraordinary strategist. He is strong and mighty. He is all powerful and He knows the end of a thing from the beginning. This is why it is important for us to seek His face and Will concerning everything we do. When we do this we receive direction on what to do and how to do what to do if we have to do it at all. His wisdom is needed in every aspect of our lives and when we show that without His counsel we can’t succeed, He gives us the Holy Spirit to guide our steps in the right path. We must also be sensitive to the leading of God through the Holy Spirit and that way we fight to win wars instead of battles. Today’s devotional unveiled an uncommon revelation and we thank God for His vessel Pastor E.A Adeboye. May His zeal for the Lord’s business never go weak in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point
Father, teach me to give up the battles that will enable me to win the most crucial wars
HYMN
Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, oh, won’t you believe it?
Wonderful story of love.
Refrain:
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful, wonderful story of love.
Wonderful story of love;
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still He doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal-bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,
Wonderful story of love.
Wonderful story of love;
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,
Wonderful story of love.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: THURSDAY, MARCH 9TH 2017-YOU ARE BLESSED

Memorise: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28.
Read: Genesis 1:26-28
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Bible in one year: Genesis 42-43, Isaiah 55

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. God’s voice is so powerful that it can bring about abundant increase.
2. When He speaks in a situation of lack and acute shortage, whatever is responsible for that anomaly is arrested and there is bountiful provision.
3. An example of this can be seen in the lives of the children of Israel. In Genesis 46:26-27, we read that all the people that Israel brought with him into Egypt including Joseph and his family were 70. However, when they were leaving Egypt, the men alone were numbered at 600,000 (Exodus 12:37). In fact, the Israelites’ rate of multiplication in Egypt was so rapid that it became a source of worry to the Egyptians (Exodus 1:7-10).
4. Sometimes, we think that such miracles can only occur in Bible times. By the grace of God, in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have seen God’s faithfulness demonstrated in the area of multiplication. In 1952, the Church started with about 12 people. By the time I became the general overseer in 1981, we had only 40 parishes including the headquarters. The convention we had in 1980 had a little over 600 people in attendance, yet we thought that was quite large. Today, through the grace of the Almighty God, this same Church has spread to over 174 nations of the world! Why? It is simply because there is a God who can speak from Heaven to make something little increase abundantly. This shall be your portion today in Jesus’ Name!
5. A blessing summons all the forces in heaven, on earth and underneath the earth to help an individual to succeed.
6. To bless someone, you have to open your mouth to declare it.
7. When God blesses you, all the angels of God will assist you, and even demons will fight one another to clear the way for you.
8. In Genesis 48:8-20, Joseph, while visiting his father Jacob with his two sons, carefully guided his father to rest his right hand on the head of the elder son, Manasseh, and to rest his left hand on Ephraim the younger. At this time, Jacob was old and sick, and could no longer see. When Jacob crossed his hands over the two boys, Joseph protested but Jacob insisted, saying the younger will be greater than the elder, and then he blessed them. Within a short period of time, the younger son had become 10 times more blessed than his elder brother (Deuteronomy 33:17).
9. This is what the declaration of a divine blessing can do in the life of a person.
10. Ask God to declare His blessings on you. You can also seek the declaration of blessings from a father that is connected to God.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

God’s blessings comes in multiple folds. His blessings brings fruitfulness, multiplication, dominion and victory. Proverbs 10:22 says “The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” (NIV) This means when we function in God’s blessings, our exploits and success is with so much ease. If we take a close look at the lineage of Abraham, this blessing is established in the lives of those who were specially blessed either directly or indirectly by God. May we experience this blessing of multiplication in every area of our lives in Jesus name. We pray that the Lord will strengthen our Father in the Lord Pastor E.A Adeboye for greater works in Jesus

Prayer Point
Father, from today, let me experience Your blessing of multiplication in every area of my life.
HYMN
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.
Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.
There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.
There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come, and now honor Thy Word.
There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8TH 2017-LIKE ABRAHAM?

Memorise: And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD. Genesis 12:8
Read: Genesis 12:7-8
7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
Bible in one year: Genesis 40-41, Isaiah 54

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. One crucial question that many people asking God to prosper them have not answered is: what will you do with the wealth you are asking for?
2. While some people are sure of what to do with such wealth, many others are not so certain.
3. Why do you want God to prosper you? Is it so that you can have multiple spouses, build multiple houses or buy a multitude of cars? If you really desire great wealth from God, what you plan to do with it to bring glory to His Name must not be far from you. May you have the right reasons, motives and goals that will be honoured by God in Jesus’ Name!
4. Let us consider the case of Abraham our spiritual father. After God promised to bless Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 and repeating the same promise in Genesis 12:7-8, what did Abraham do? Abraham immediately built an altar and worshiped God.
5. Note that at this time, all Abraham had was God’s promise; there was no blessing yet. In other words, he was saying, “for promising to bless me at all, You deserve my worship.”
6. Down the line, in Genesis 13:1-4, after the blessings started pouring in, Abraham did not forget his resolve to worship God. He travelled quite some distance to an altar he had earlier built at Bethel to worship God. By the time you get to Genesis 22:1-18, although Abraham had become truly blessed, he still proved to God that he loved Him more than any blessing he had received from Him, including Isaac his beloved son.
7. When God saw all these, He was so impressed that He released greater blessings on him; hence, Abraham’s servant could testify that God had greatly blessed Abraham (Genesis 24:34-35).
8. From the onset, Abraham was focused on worshiping God. As the blessings came, He remained committed to worshipping God. For this reason, the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 51:2 instructs us to learn from him: “Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.”
9. Not many of us are like Father Abraham. When you allow the little blessings you received from God to derail you from the faith, how can you then convince God to give you more?
10. If you truly want the exponential blessings that God has reserved for you, you must have a solid plan for how you will glorify Him with such wealth.
11. How are you spending the little you have now?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Like Abraham? This a question we have to answer individually and sincerely. How do we see others who are not as blessed much as we are? Are we faithful in the little we have now? Let’s carefully and faithfully answer these questions. As we answer these questions, let us also take step in correcting the mistakes we’ve made in the past, straighten our ways and walk in His plan for what He has blessed us with. We thank God for Pastor E.A Adeboye for blessing us and inspiring us in today’s devotional. God bless him in strength and greater ability in Jesus’ name.

Key Point
God has a plan for how you should spend every provision He makes available to you. Make it a point of duty to always ask Him to reveal this to you.
HYMN
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.
Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
