OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4TH 2022 DO YOU LOVE GOD?

MEMORISE: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8

READ: 1 John 4:7 -21

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

19 We love him, because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

MESSAGE

Whether you love God or not is not known by your claims but rather, your attitude to His word. John 15:14 says:

You are my friends, if ye do whatsoever l command you.

Do you obey the commands of the Lord? If you do, then you love God. However, if you don’t, then you don’t love Him. In John 14:15, He said:

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

In John 15:12, Jesus told us one of those commandments you must keep if you say you love God.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, just as l have loved you.

John 15:12

Now, that is a hard commandment to keep because some people are just so hard to love. This is why, at our Ministers’ conference in Nigeria, l always tell the attendees to say to the fellow sitting next to them, “I love you compulsorily”. On one occasion, one person was sitting next to someone who just offended him, so he said, “l love you compulsorily, you stupid fellow”. The people around you may be hard to love, but you must love them. You have no choice if you really want to love God.

When He says love one another as l have loved you, you se how difficult that is when you read 1 John 3:16:

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

You, therefore, see that your excuses for not preaching to others who are heading for hell are flimsy. If you love them just as Jesus loves you, you would be willing to lose anything so that they will not go to hell. It is because some missionaries laid down their lives to preach the gospel that you are on your way to heaven today. Why is it so hard for you to do the same for someone else?

kEY POINT

If you truly love God, you will be ready to sacrifice anything to ensure you preach the gospel to the unsaved and bring them to Christ.

HYMN 30: WONDERFUL STORY OF LOVE

1 Wonderful story of love!

Tell it to me again;

Wonderful story of love!

Wake the immortal strain.

Angels with rapture announce it,

Shepherds with wonder receive it;

Sinner, O won’t you believe it?

Wonderful story of love!

Refrain:

Wonderful! Wonderful!

Wonderful story, Wonderful story of love!

2 Wonderful story of love!

Though you are far away;

Wonderful story of love!

Still he doth call today.

Calling from Calvary’s mountain,

Down from the crystal bright fountain,

E’en from the dawn of creation;

Wonderful story of love!

3 Wonderful story of love!

Jesus provides a rest;

Wonderful story of love!

For all the pure and blest;

Rest in those mansions above us,

With those who’ve gone on before us,

Singing the rapturous chorus;

Wonderful story of love!

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY NOVEMBER 3RD 2022 FRIGHTENING MIRACLES

MEMORISE: For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: Luke 5:9

READ: Luke 5:1 -9

1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

MESSAGE

There are miracles and there are miracles. There are miracles that people hear about and just shout ‘halleluyah’ for shouting sake; they are not moved. There are some other miracles by which the recipients are rendered almost speechless because they are enjoying joy unspeakable (I Peter 1:8). There are yet some other miracles that are so wonderous that the recipient would find it hard to believe and thus conclude that he or she must have been dreaming. Finally, there are frightening miracles. These are those where the recipient becomes so frightened that he or she may even attempt to run away.

Many years ago, God provided a Mercedes Benz car for one of our elderly pastors in The Redeemed Christian Church of God. This is somebody who never completed elementary education and never dreamt that he would own any kind of vehicle, not to mention a Mercedes Benz. When my driver took the car to him and said, “Sir, this is a car for you and you will have your own driver, fully paid for” he asked, “What kind of joke is this?” “I’m not joking, this is coming from the General Overseer”. He turned from my driver and began to walk away. My driver followed him, saying “Sir please take the keys” but he increased speed. He had gotten a miracle that frightened him. This month, God will give you a miracle that will frighten you, in Jesus’ name.

In our Bible Reading for today, we see the template for getting frightened miracles. Peter had just fished all night and caught nothing. Of course, he must have been very tired and frustrated, but someone came to him, asking to use his boat and he said, “Yes” without charging Him rent to at least make up for the fruitless night he just had. Peter gave a sacrificial offering that day and Jesus in return gave him a miracle that frightened him so much that he told the Lord to stay away from him . In 2 Chronicles 1:6-7, Solomon gave a sacrificial offering and God made him the richest and wisest king that ever lived.

If you can do what no man has ever done for God, He will in return give you what He has never given any man.

KEY POINT

If you can do what no man has ever done for God, He will in return give you what He has never given to any man.

HYMN 17: O LORD MY GOD, WHEN I IN AWESOME WONDER

O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
thy power throughout the universe displayed;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to thee,
how great thou art, how great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:
Then sings my soul…

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
sent him to die – I scarce can take it in
that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
he bled and died to take away my sin:
Then sings my soul…

When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation
and take me home – what joy shall fill my heart!
Then shall I bow in humble adoration
and there proclaim, ‘my God, how great thou art!’
Then sings my soul…

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 2ND 2022 NO SMALL PLATFORM

MEMORISE: And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:15

READ: John 4:6 -30

6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

MESSAGE

The Almighty God sent His disciples out in Luke10:1-6 to preach in households. He gave them so much power just to preach to families -,not to organise crusade. He gave them pier to preach to households because no platform where you can preach to people is small at all. As long as there is one person to listen to the gospel of the Lord, the platform is big.

In John 4:6-30, Jesus preached to only one woman. It was in the course of that conversation that He gave the powerful revelation that, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). While many may have regarded preaching to just one person as a small platform, Jesus Christ said preaching to her was His meat (John 4:32-34).

I went to preach in a small rural Church which had no building. My children snapped the picture of me preaching there and put it on Internet and many people were surprised. I, on the other hand, wondered why people were surprised. It may have been a small Church, it may have been situated in rural area, but as long as there was someone, just,one person there that l could lead to Christ, l gladly went there to preach. In the Bible reading for today, Jesus concentrated a lot of effort into winning that woman’s soul and she brought the city to Him. That little gathering that look like a small platform probably has the next Adeboye in it. I am a village boy from lfewara. However, from that village, God won one soul to Himself and that one soul is now bringing millions of souls to His kingdom. Never underestimate any opportunity to win soul. Every platform given to you to preach the word of God is big

How many people do you have following you on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and so on? How many email addresses and phone numbers do you have on your contact list? All these are great platforms through which you can reach people for the Lord. The next Billy Graham may be on one of these platforms of yours; God may be counting on you to win that one soul to Him. Don’t waste that big platform you have to use it.

KEY POINT

There is no such thing as a small platform when it comes to preaching the gospel.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY OCTOBER 30TH 2022 HE HEARS YOU

MEMORISE: For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 1 Peter 3:12

READ: 1 John 5:14 -15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired ofhim.

MESSAGE

At times when we pray, it seems as if God cannot hear. I want to assure you today that as long as you are praying with a holy heart, God can hear every word you speak to Him.

And when he had taken the book, the four beast.and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 5:8

These four beasts and twenty-four who are carrying our prayers are right there at the throne of God. Our prayers are rising up to Him. This means your prayers go straight to the throne room of God, so He hears when you pray to Him. He has probably answered you already but you are not listening because you are bent on getting what you want that you cannot hear Him. It could also be that your answer is on its way and the set time for it to arrive has not come yet. Whatever the reason may be, God can hear your prayers. Don’t stop praying because you think He cannot hear; He hears it all. Some of the prayers you prayed many years ago have come to pass in your life now, so pray into your future.

There is one kind of prayer l have discovered that God answer speedily. Except the answer to the prayer will not be for the good of the fellow praying, God will answer a heart cry speedily. For a long time, Hannah had been going to Shiloh and asking God for a baby but she got no answer. In 1 Samuel 1:10-13 she didn’t come just to ask, she came with a heart cry; her heart cried out for a miracle. The Bible says that she was talking but her voice was not heard.

Many years ago, l witnessed the circumcision of a baby boy. As his foreskin was cut, the boy screamed in pain. He cried to a point where his voice couldn’t be heard. That was a heart cry. You get to the point of sending a heart cry to heaven when you can no longer take the situation anymore. When you are still coping with the situation, your answer may be delayed, but when you decide that enough is enough and you cry to God from deep within your heart for a miracle, He cannot delay the answer to that kind of prayer.

KEY POINT

If you are a child of God, your prayer go straight to Him. Keep praying

HYMN 13: MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS

1 My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand.

2 When darkness veils His lovely face,

I rest on His unchanging grace;

In every high and stormy gale,

My anchor holds within the veil.

3 His oath, His covenant, His blood,

Support me in the whelming flood;

When all around my soul gives way,

He then is all my hope and stay.

4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,

Oh, may I then in Him be found;

In Him, my righteousness, alone,

Faultless to stand before the throne.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY OCTOBER 28th 2022 BEHOLD, HE COMES

MEMORIZE: And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Revelation 22:12

READ: Revelation 22:6-12

6. And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

7. Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

8. And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

9. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

10. And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

11. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

12. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

MESSAGE

So many people are sleeping and making compromises everywhere they turn. It is almost impossible to find people who are really expecting the return of Jesus Christ. We must be careful not to be so carried away with prosperity and abundance that we forget there is a home for us beyond this earth.
If we would not miss that heavenly home, we must trim our lamps and get ourselves ready, because if Jesus says He will return, then He will certainly return. Everyone should seriously give thought to where he or she will be when the rapture happens or when the Lord says it is time to leave the earth.

I remember that during a conference for Pentecostal Pastors in Nigeria long ago, a man of God who was much younger than I came to preach. The young man preached vehemently about the Kingdom of God, hell, the lake of fire, and the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He dissected the word of God about this matter so much that we were all glued to our seats. You can imagine the absolute silence in the hall that day. By the time he was through with his sermon, we were all sober. As the leader of the meeting, I was supposed to round off and as I mounted the podium I said, ‘Jesus is truly coming soon, but when a man dies before Jesus returns, his own Jesus has come then.” That was all I said.
I travelled and returned two weeks later to learn that the young man of God who had preached that very serious sermon had died. His Jesus had come.

My beloved, you should not joke about this matter, because it is an issue of eternal life or death.
The choice a person makes here on earth will determine where the fellow will spend his or her eternity and I can tell you that eternity is such a long time. The Bible says in Hebrews 9:27

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

If you don’t believe me, at least believe the Bible. As soon as a fellow dies, he will face judgement before God. If death is inevitable for all of us, then we must be careful how we live our lives. Behold, Jesus is coming for His bride the saints. You must be prepared to meet the Bridegroom so you are not left behind.

PRAYER POINT

Father, when You come to collect Your people, please do not let me be left behind in Jesus name.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY OCTOBER 25TH 2022 HOW WILL HE MEET YOU

MEMORISE: Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Matthew 24:44

READ: Matthew 24:44 -51

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

MESSAGE

For many students, they start preparing for exams only after the exam timetable has been pasted. Thank God that they know when the examination will hold. For us Christians, we do not know when our examination will hold. We do not know when the rapture will take place, or when we will be judged. When that examination comes, how will God meet you. Will He meet you prepared? Interestingly, this examination is not one that you can re-sit if you fail. Hebrews 9:27 says:
And it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment.

From verse 45 of our Bible reading for today, we see a category of people who God has sent to feed His children the meat of His word in due season. Are you preaching the true word of God to those you are sent to? If you are, when it is time for their examination, you will be called blessed and you will reign with Christ over all. However, if you are not teaching them His true word which has its foundation in salvation, sanctification,baptism in the Holy Ghost and the second coming of Christ, then the Bible calls such a fellow evil.

Don’t decide to start quarreling with people, especially fellow ministers of God, simply because the examination appears to be delayed. Don’t start insulting and criticising them publicly because you don’t agree with their views, even though God has sent them to preach God’s word to people, just like you. Don’t start mingling with sinners and joining them in their sin; the One who sent you – the Lord Jesus Christ Himself will come at a time when you least expect Him.

Repent quickly because if He meets you not doing His work as you ought, the Bible says that you will be cut asunder and sent to the same place as unbelievers, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

REFLECTION

When Jesus returns , how will He meet you doing His work?

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY OCTOBER 22ND 2022 THE WORD IV

MEMORISE: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20

READ: Psalms 107:17 -20

17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

19 Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

MESSAGE

The word of God has tremendous power to heal sickness and diseases. When you need healing, study the word. Our memory verse today says that the the word of God can be sent to heal and deliver from destruction.

When you send something to someone, you do it through a medium. One medium of sending the word of God is the Bible. Thus, in your Bible, God has already sent you the word that you need to be healed of any sickness or disease. When you study the testimonies of other people’s hearings and the promises of God concerning your health in the Bible, the power of God can jump from the Scriptures to your body and heal you.

The second medium through which God sends His word to heal is a man or woman of God. In 2 Kings 2:19-22, the Bible says that the waters were healed according to the word of ELisha. In 2 Kings 5:10, the moment Elisha tolerance Naaman to go and wash in the Jordan, the power to heal leprosy went into the river.

For a long time,anytime we held The Holy Ghost Service in Nigeria, after preaching, l would lay hands on everybody for healing and all manner of miracles happened. One day, l stood laying hands on ten thousand people for over 5 hours. After that, l knees l couldn’t do it alone, so l called some Pastors together and gave each of them ties that l had worn at previous Holy Ghost Services. The anointing had rubbed off on the ties so when they wore them and joined me in laying hands, miracles happened. However, we grew so much that there was no way we could lay hands on everyone. The Lord said to me, “While you are preaching the word, the hearings can be taken place at the same time”. That is how God started telling me, right in the middle of the sermon, as He was healing people. As soon as the Lord started to speak during the sermon, l would announced it to the people saying, “God said ther is someone here, He has healed you of such and such”.

While the word is going on through the man or woman of God, healing can be taking place. Now, l speak the word do God to you be healed in Jesus’ name.

KEY POINT

When a man of God is preaching be sensitive to connect in the Spirit because the Lord could be sending a word to you during that sermon.

HYMN 16: O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST

God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home.

2 Under the shadow of Thy throne

Thy saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Thine arm alone,

And our defence is sure.

3 Before the hills in order stood,

Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God,

To endless years the same.

4 A thousand ages in Thy sight

Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night

Before the rising sun.

5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

Bears all its sons away;

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY OCTOBER 20TH 2022 THE WORD ll

MEMORISE: And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. Ezekiel 2:2

READ: Psalms 119:97 -105

97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

MESSAGE

The word of God sets you on your feet in marriage, ministry, business or whatever endeavour you embark on. John 6:63 says:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

When you study the word of God and allow it to dwell in you, the Spirit in that word will fill you up. The Spirit will set you on your feet, breathe life into you, and then enable you to do some things that you were unable to do before. The word of God is so complete that whatever you need to get you on your feet in life can be found in it. In the word of God, you will find countless messages for a better marriage, many lessons to help you prosper in your business, academics, politics, relating with people, relating with God and anything relevant to life. Proverbs 2:6 says “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding”.

During the Coronavirus lockdown, someone said he spent his free time studying previous editions of the Open Heavens Devotional and discovered no message had ever been repeated for the 20 years since we had been writing the devotional. That is because the devotional is a Bible study tool and the wisdom in God’s word is inexhaustible.

When l was writing my Ph.D, thesis, l got to a point where l had one hundred and eighty-six simultaneous equations and couldn’t find a solution. One fateful day, l got tired of it all. I threw the project aside and picked up my Bible to do some studying. I read the passage where God parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross ( Exodus 14) and the Spirit of God spoke to me saying, “That is the solution to your problem”. I took up the thesis again and this time around, l divided equations into two categories – one on the left and the other on the right, just as the Red Sea parted to the left and the right. I then solved both categories separately and got my final answer soon afterwards. The word of God set me on my feet academically! When l presented my thesis to the external examiner, he had no questions for me. He only said to the authorities, “Give this young man his Ph.D”!

KEY POINT

Study God’s word intensely and by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, He will give you the wisdom you need to stand successfully in every area of life.

HYMN 9: I’VE A MESSAGE FROM THE LORD

1 I’ve a message from the Lord, Hallelujah!
The message unto you I’ll give.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

Refrain:
“Look and live,” my brother, live.
Look to Jesus now and live.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”

2 I’ve a message full of love, Hallelujah!
A message, O my friend, for you.
’Tis a message from above, Hallelujah!
Jesus said it, and I know ’tis true. [Refrain]

3 Life is offered unto you. Hallelujah!
Eternal life your soul shall have
If you’ll only look to Him. Hallelujah!
Look to Jesus, who alone can save. [Refrain]

4 I will tell you how I came, Hallelujah!
To Jesus when He made me whole:
’Twas believing on His name, Hallelujah!
I trusted and He saved my soul. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY OCTOBER 18TH 2022 ONLY ONE WAY

MEMORISE: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

READ: John 14:1 -6
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

MESSAGE

I have heard many people say that there are multiple of ways to heaven. I wonder if those who say these things are even Christians at all because the Bible is very clear about this as we see in our memory verse today.

No one can get to the Father except through Jesus.

Acts 4:12 says:
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no salvation in any other person, religion or name except Jesus Christ. It is His blood that washes us clean and makes us qualified to spend eternity in Heaven – nothing else but His blood. Therefore, whoever does not get washed by the blood of Jesus and begins to live like Christ cannot enter the kingdom of God.

When a fraudster wants to make a counterfeit currency or document, he will make it look similar to the real one. There are many beliefs and religions that bear similarities to Christianity; don’t be fooled. Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven; the rest is mirages. Any belief apart from Christianity which promotes a relationship with Christ and the in dwelling of His Spirit within Christians, is a counterfeit.

Beloved, there is only one name under heaven given for man to be saved and that name is Jesus Christ. (Acts 4:12)

The popular Scripture John 3:16 says:
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We can see from the scripture above that it is only those who believe in Jesus that will have everlasting life. I congratulate you if Jesus Christ is already your Lord and Savior. It means you have found the only way to reign with Him for eternity. However, if you are yet to surrender your life to Him, please today, as He is the only way to avoid eternal damnation. Choose wisely.

KEY POINT
The only way to Heaven is through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

HYMN 8: I’M PRESSING ON THE UPWARD WAY
1 I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand
By faith on Canaan’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2 My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where these abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3 I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.

4 I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till rest I’ve found,
“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL MONDAY OCTOBER 17TH 2022 THAT I MAY KNOW HIM

MEMORISE: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3

READ: Isaiah 43:10 -11
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

MESSAGE

You can never know God enough. Paul said:

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Philippians 3:10

That is Paul- the great Apostle who God revealed so much of Himself to and this is evident in his writings which make up a significant part of the New Testament. Despite this, Apostle Paul still said he wished to know God more. You can never know enough of God because 1 Corinthians 13:9 says that
‘We only know in part. Anyone who says he or she already knows all there is to know about God is a liar. Every believer must strive always to know more and more of God, it,should be our daily yearning.’

There are many benefits to knowing God. Firstly, it is only those who know God that can do exploits. The latter part of Daniel 11:32 says:
…but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.

The more of God you know, the more the exploits you can do and vice versa. Seek to know Him more so that you can do more and more exploits.

Secondly, eternal life is in knowing God.

In John 17:3, Jesus defined eternal life as being about knowing God and His son Jesus Christ.

If you know God, then you will begin to enjoy God’s Kingdom right from here. When a believer goes to be with the Lord, it is wrong to say that they died because they crossed from death to life long ago. They are only sleeping (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14).

If you want to know God, you will spend time studying His word daily and you will gladly attend Bible Study. You will also pray very often.

When l just became born again, l was always the first to arrive at Bible Study meetings because l just wanted to know more about God daily. Up until now, l ensure that l pay attention and take notes anytime someone is talking about Jesus Christ. I just want to know Him more. What about you?

PRAYER POINT
Heavenly Father, please reveal more of Yourself to me. I want to know You more.

HYMN 14: NEARER MY GOD TO THEE
1. Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me.
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

2. Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

3. There let the way appear,
Steps unto heav’n;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

4. Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!

5. Or if, on joyful wing
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee
