OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY 28TH AUGUST 2021: NEED A MIRACLE? II

MEMORISE:
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

READ: Mark 5:25-34

25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

MESSAGE:
Report have revealed that both orthodox and traditional medical practitioners have confessed their limitations in the healing process. Both orthodox and traditional medical practitioners are known to tell terminally ill patients to go home and prepare to die after their best efforts to save such lives have failed.

Mark 5:25-28 tells us the story of a woman with the issue of blood:
“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.”

In this story we see how the helplessness of physicians made the woman desperate for a miracle. When human beings cannot help a fellow, it becomes apparent that the case would require a divine intervention. The woman said in her heart that if she could just touch Jesus’ clothes, she would be made whole. She did and she got her healing. Jesus Christ knew that healing virtue had gone out of Him and asked for the identity of the fellow who touched Him. The Bible says the woman, though afraid, told Jesus what and how it happened. It is interesting to note that instead of Jesus Christ rebuking her or taking back the virtue that had healed her, He commended her faith. Jesus said “….Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (Mark 5:34). Beloved, it takes a divine touch to get such a miracle. If we can only have faith in Jesus Christ- the Great Miracle-Worker, we would also become candidates for miracles.

Are you facing any health challenges? Maybe medical practitioners have even described it as incurable. I assure you that as you exercise your faith today, Jehovah-Rapha will make you whole in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, I believe there is no aliment You cannot cure; please, heal me of any infirmity in my body today, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 146-148.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY 27TH AUGUST 2021.- NEED A MIRACLE I?

MEMORISE:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

READ: 2 Kings 6:24-30.

24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.

26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

27 And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

2 Kings 7:1-16.

1. Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

9 Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.

10 So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11 And he called the porters; and they told it to the king’s house within.

12 And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

14 They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

MESSAGE:
Ever since the fall of man which led to the ground being cursed for his sake, it has become a matter of divine intervention for him to prosper. Only by divine intervention – also known as miracles, can man prosper with ease. In today’s bible reading, Samaria was under siege and people could not go out to farm or trade. This resulted in a great famine, which became so severe that people started killing their children for food. The situation brought desperation for a miracle in the city of Samaria.

The undeniable truth is that everyone needs a miracle at one time or another- whether physical, psychological, material, financial or even more importantly, spiritual. King David knew this and wrote “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)

Who is your shepherd? If the Lord is indeed your Shepherd, then you are a candidate for miracles. This Lord is the owner of the cattle upon a thousand hills, according to Psalm 50:10-11.
“For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.”

As we read in the Bible text today, the people of Samaria desperately needed a miracle and they were so blessed that a prophet lived in their midst. The prophet declared the word of God but it was too good for a member of the king’s cabinet to believe and this was to his peril. We need to have faith in God when we are in need of divine intervention (a miracle). The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 20:20:
“…Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”

Beloved, do you need a miracle? Fulfil God’s conditions by obeying all His commandments which include accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, living holy, faithful payment of your tithes, cheerful giving of offerings, honoring Him (God) with your first fruits and so on.

Trust God for your all-round blessing and you will surely see His glory.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please send me miracles to meet all my needs, according to Your riches in glory, in the mighty name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY 26TH AUGUST 2021. QUALIFIED FOR A MIRACLE?

MEMORISE:

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. Matthew 15:28

READ: Matthew 15:22-28.

22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

MESSAGE:
The simple explanation for a miracle is that it is a supernatural event that does not follow the laws of nature, to favor a person. To be a candidate for a miracle, the first qualification is that such a fellow must be a carrier of the Living God. He or she must be a child of God. God created man in His own image. The Bible says in Genesis 1:27:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

When the carrier of God’s image- man, got entangled with sin, he needed to be restored and the only One who could do this was God Himself. God achieved the restoration through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. For us to be partakers of this miracle of redemption, we must believe Him to access His power (John 1:11-12). Beloved, you simply cannot partake of the miraculous without belonging to the Miracle-Worker!

Do you desire a miracle? You must be born again. Why? Jesus Christ said it clearly that miracles are children’s bread; you can’t have them until you become a child of God (Matthew 15:22-28). My prayer is that you will give your life over to the Miracle-Worker if you haven’t done that already, so that you too can begin to experience miracles from now. If you are already a child of God, then you are already qualified for a miracle, as long as you are living by His word.

Another thing that can qualify you for a miracle is faith. Jesus commended the faith of the woman and she got what she needed. I encourage you to come to God in faith today and those intimidating situations in your life shall become history in Jesus’ name. Has the doctor said the baby in your womb is dead and must be evacuated? I speak to that baby now to receive the life of God, in Jesus’ name. I stand by the word of God in Romans 8:11 and declare “…if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Receive your miracle now, in the mighty name of Jesus!

PRAYER POINT:
Father, I believe You are the Miracle-Working God. Please give me a miracle today, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 140-142.

HYMN 7: HAVE YOU BEEN TO JESUS.

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing pow’r?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

o Refrain:
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3. When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4. Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
Oh, be washed in the blood of the Lamb!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2021. THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.

MEMORISE:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

READ: John 14:1-6

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

MESSAGE:
People who believe in many gods are called polytheists. The problem with their religious belief is that it does not actually point them to the very God who created them. All thanks to God, the Fathers of our Lord Jesus Christ, who through this very Son revealed Himself to us as the true Living God. The Bible says in Mark 12:29-30:
“And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

There are however, some people who practice other religions that believe there is only one God. Such people are called monotheists. The problem with this category of people however, is that they do not know the genuine way to this One and Only God of the universe. We give thanks to Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God who came to show us the way, according to the memory verse of today.

Some churchgoers however, believe that Jesus Christ is the way, but do not see Him as the Truth. This is the primary reason many of them disagree with the relevance of God’s requirements for holy living as contained in the Bible.

To some other Christians, Jesus’ life is not meant for the contemporary world.

We can see where the problem lie in the Church and by extension, the world, since the Church is the light of the world. If the light is now becoming darkness, the world is in serious trouble. May the light of the Church shine brighter again in Jesus’ name.

Beloved, be not deceived: Jesus Christ is the Way- the only Way for that matter. He is the Truth- that which can set you free, and the only source of eternal life. Give your life to Him today and if you have already done so, please stay away from sin.

Be careful not to align yourself with people who claim that living in holiness is not possible, saying that God’s demand for holiness as contained in the Bible is not realistic.

Trust in the Lord, lean on the truth and you will enjoy eternal life from the Life Himself, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please don’t ever let me depart from You – the Way, the Truth and the Life.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 128-130.

HYMN 14: MY JESUS, MY GOD, MY ALL.

1. Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all!
How can I love Thee as I ought?
And how revere this wondrous gift,
So far surpassing hope or thought?

Refrain:
Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore!
Oh, make us love Thee more and more.
Oh, make us love Thee more and more.

2. Had I but Mary’s sinless heart
To love Thee with, my dearest King,
Oh, with what bursts of fervent praise,
Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing!

3. Oh, see upon the altar placed,
The Victim of divinest love!
Let all the earth below adore,
And join the s of heaven above.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY 24th AUGUST 2021. WHEN YOU NEED A REVIVAL

MEMORISE:

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

READ: PSALMS 51:1-12

1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

9. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew aright spirit within me.

11. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

MESSAGE:

Many people are in need of revival, yet have not been able to access it because of pride. The need for revival which brings about spiritual restoration comes on the heels of spiritual decay. A lot of things could be responsible for spiritual decay. One of it is disobedience. The Bible says that when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they lost their fellowship with Him. Before the fall, the Bible says the man and his wife were naked, but not ashamed (Genesis 2:25 ).
After the fall however, the Bible says that their eyes were opened – ‘enlightened’ (Genesis 3:7-8 ), and they became ashamed.

There are many lessons we can learn from the above cited Scripture. One, spiritual decay leads to the exposure of nakedness and shame. Shame is the opposite of glory. Spiritual decay is the cause of all kinds of sin; it is what accounts for many women dressing in revealing clothes, as they strive to attract men, luring them into sexual immorality. In the same vein, many men engage in sexual immorality both before and even in the course of their marriages. You will never behave in such a way when the glory of God is upon you.
Indeed, the Bible says:
“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.” “Proverbs 16:31”

When someone loses his or her spirituality, the voice of the Lord becomes fearsome to the fellow. He or she becomes resistant to the word of the Lord. At the end of the day, such people run from their Bible-believing Church to so-called churches where deceit is the order of the day. Such people need spiritual restoration.
The problem with such people, however, is their pride which will not allow them to follow David’s example in his response to the message from God through prophet Nathan in 2 Samuel 12:1-13 . David acknowledged his sins and God forgave and restored him. The product of this story is found in the text of today which reads in part:

“Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
“Psalm 51:11-12”

Beloved, are you spiritually cold?, Have you lost some of the spiritual gifts that make you radiate the glory of the Lord? All you need is to call on Jesus Christ with every sense of humility. He will restore you speedily.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please forgive me of the sins that have taken away the joy of my salvation. Restore to me Your Spirit of liberty, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: PSALMS 125-127

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL MONDAY 23RD AUGUST 2021. COMPLETE RESTORATION.

MEMORISE:

After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. Mark 8:25

READ: Acts 3:1-8

1. Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

MESSAGE:
It is one thing to be restored, it is another to experience complete restoration. Some people are restored halfway- like the nine lepers in Luke 17:12-19. The only one who received complete restoration was the tenth leper because he returned to give thanks to the Lord. Complete restoration does not allow any backwardness or stagnation. This is why I always assure those who have received one miracle or another that when they give the testimony of what the Lord has done, it will always be permanent.

A typical example of complete restoration is found in the Bible reading of today. When the lame man at the gate called Beautiful got his healing, it was complete. First, his feet and ankle bones received strength for the first time in his life. After this, he began to walk, and then to leap- praising God. May you experience complete restoration of whatever you have lost, in Jesus’ name.

The story in our memory verse of today reveals another typical example of complete restoration. The lessons in the story from which we took our memory verse are many. One, Jesus will not stop until He has completed whatever miracle He starts. Two, He always completes His miracle in the life of an individual, as revealed in that story. When the man said he was seeing men like trees, Jesus was not satisfied with such an incomplete miracle; He continued to do what He knew how to do best until it was complete, perfect and delivered. The Lord will perfect the good work he has started in your life and He will not abandon it until it is complete in Jesus’ name.

You can have complete restoration in your spiritual life if you have missed it one way or the other. You can be born again, sanctified, and baptized in the Holy Ghost. Your expectation for the complete restoration of your shattered dreams shall not be cut short in Jesus’ name. I just want to advise you to have an encounter with Jesus Christ- the one who can make all your dreams come true. You will have testimonies of the complete restoration of your destiny, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please give me my desired breakthrough and let it be complete, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 122-124.

HYMN 12: IN CHRIST ALONE.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here, in the love of Christ, I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save
‘Til on that cross, as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin, on him, was laid
Here, in the death of Christ, I live

There in the ground, his body lay
Light of the world, by darkness, slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave, he rose again
And as he stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am his and he is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Could ever pluck me from his hand
‘Til he returns or calls me home

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY 22ND AUGUST 2021. HOLD FAST UNTO ETERNAL LIFE.

MEMORISE:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

READ: Matthew 24:2-13.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

MESSAGE:
While it is true that the devil can rob us of eternal life, it is also true that we can ignorantly submit it to him. The reason is found in Romans 8:31 which says:
“ What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”

The answer to this question is that nobody can be against us- except we ourselves.
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:19

Here we see that there is something deeper than sin itself- that is, disobedience. When a person called a sinner, it means there is disobedience somewhere in the life of such a fellow. In other words, the power of sin lies in disobedience. According to the Scripture above, men were made sinners through disobedience. We can conclude therefore that the absence of disobedience is the absence of sin! Let us look at another Scripture in order to see how God views disobedience as different acts that dishonor Him:
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.…” 1 Samuel 15:22-23

Beloved, in simple terms, one thing that can deny one of eternal life is disobedience to the word of God, which I regard as the father of all sins.

Are you disobedient to God who you proclaim to be your Father? How often do you argue with His word? Are you comfortable with His ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ or do you consider them stressful?

Some members of the 21st century Church don’t take God’s command seriously anymore. I am using this opportunity to advise you not to join the group of such people. Eternal life is real and you cannot afford to miss it. Hold fast unto eternal life by obeying every word of God.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please give me the grace to be perfectly obedient to You in all things, that I may have eternal life, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 120-121.

HYMN 8: HO, MY COMRADES! SEE THE SIGNAL.

1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

o Refrain:
“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

2. See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;
Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

3. See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.

4. Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;
Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY 21ST AUGUST 2021. YOU MUST CROSS THE FINISH LINE.

MEMORISE:

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mathew 24:13

READ: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

MESSAGE:
Some theologians teach that once you are saved you are forever saved. This is the lie of the devil. The truth of the matter is that there is temporary (provisional) salvation as well as eternal salvation. One can be saved temporarily and be damned eventually if he falls out of the will of God, whereas God has also made provision for our eternal salvation if we abide by His word which is able to save us ultimately to the end (James 1:21). The Bible says:
“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” Ecclesiastes 7:8

There are examples of people who started well in the Christian race but fell by the way side, chief among whom was Judas Iscariot- one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. Beloved, do not allow yourself to be deceived, thinking that once you are saved, nothing can take away your salvation. If Judas- a disciple of Christ could fall and lose his eternal salvation, nobody should consider Heaven a certainty while living a life of sin. Heaven is guaranteed only if you live righteously to the very end.

Complete obedience to the word of God is a fundamental condition for eternal salvation. James 1:22, 25 says:
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves….. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

In addition to obeying the word of God, another condition is due endurance of persecution to the end. Jesus Christ, in our memory verse of today categorically tells us that only those who endure to the end shall be ultimately saved (Matthew 24:13). Why persecution? The Bible says “ Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12).

The Scripture corroborates what our Lord Jesus Christ as in John 15:19:
“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”

Beloved, let us endure to the end and we shall experience eternal salvation, in the name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please help me to endure to the very end so I would receive eternal salvation. Don’t let me fall by the way, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 119.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY 20TH AUGUST 2021. JESUS THE PEACEMAKER.

MEMORISE:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

READ: 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

MESSAGE:
When sin came into the lives of Adam and Eve, they forfeited their cordial relationship with the Lord God Almighty. They were separated from the blissful presence of their creator. It was a great loss. The interesting thing that many may not believe is that God wants man to come back into fellowship with Him. However, God’s holiness prevents Him from beholding iniquity, as we see in Isaiah 59:1-2:
“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

To bring about this reconciliation therefore, God had to make the sacrifice of giving His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, for the sins of the world (John 3:16). 2 Corinthians 5:19 says further:
“ To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Before Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross, He said:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

In John 7:37, He calls:
“…….If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”

Our memory verse says “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). To make peace with God therefore, one must acknowledge his sins as well as confess and forsake them, with a promise not to go back to the life of disobedience. A new life is expected of anyone who has accepted the peace that living in Jesus Christ brings. The Bible speaks of the publican in Luke 18:13 thus:
“And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”

Making peace with God also requires breaking away from past misdeeds and making right our wrongdoings like in the case of Zacchaeus:
“And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.” Luke 19:8

This is proof of genuine repentance and reconciliation.

PRAYER POINT:
Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace, please remove any barrier between me and my Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, permanently reconcile me to God the Father.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 117-118.

HYMN 28: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS.
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY 19TH AUGUST 2021. SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS.

MEMORISE:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Ephesians 1:3

READ: Ephesians 1:3-5

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

MESSAGE:
Blessings are in various categories. There are physical as well as spiritual blessings, according to the memory verse of today. Physical blessings are temporary while those of a spiritual nature are enduring and eternal. All blessings however- whether physical or spiritual, come from the Lord, according to James 1:17:
“ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

The best of all blessings are those of a spiritual nature, which transcend the present age. This is why Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ wrote:
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 1 Corinthians 15:19

Spiritual blessings cannot be qualified in material or monetary terms. These include gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as victory over principalities and powers. The benefits of spiritual blessings are captured in Mark 10:29-30 thus:
“And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”

In addition to all the physical blessings we get from submitting to the lordship of Jesus Christ, we have the spiritual blessing of eternal life. No matter how long we live on the earth, we shall depart from it one day. Where will you spend eternity- Heaven or hell? May you not spend eternity in hell, in the mighty name of Jesus.

To access spiritual blessings, you must believe Jesus and make Him your personal Lord and Savior (John 6:27-29).

ACTION POINT:
Ask the Almighty God to load you with spiritual blessings. If, however, you have not given your life to Jesus, accept Him as your Lord today so that you can also begin to enjoy special blessings.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 114-116.

HYMN 30: WHEN UPON LIFE’S BILLOWS YOU ARE TEMPEST TOASSED.

1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

4. So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
