OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 12TH MAY 2021: YOU TOO CAN BE A CHILD OF GOD.

MEMORISE: John 1:12
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

READ: John 1:11-12
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

MESSAGE:
There is virtually nothing anyone can do with power. It is generally described as the ability to act or produce an effect; It can also mean the possession of control, influence, legal and or official authority over others. Power can be physical, mental, political, economic or spiritual. The power we are looking at today however, encompasses all spheres of human endeavors; It is the divine power available for children of God as we see in the memory verse for today.

Seeing that some degree of power is required in order to become a child of God, the question then is how can a person get this power? Beloved, this divine power is given by the Father Himself. If anyone wishes to become a child of God, he or she must first come to the Father in repentance. Many have perished in sin, sickness, poverty, addictions, and other forms of bondage, because they rejected the Gospel of the Father and so did not receive the power to become children of God. Romans 3:23 says:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Thus, to become a child of God, you must be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-5). The power to become a child of God is also hidden in the word of God (Ephesians 5:26). You must begin to act on the infallible word of God. It is only then that the power to become His child would come upon you mightily (James 1 :22-25).

There are so many rights and privileges of being God’s child. If you are yet to be born again, you are missing a lot. When you become a child of God, you immediately become joint heirs with Jesus Christ in your glory. Thus, you become bold to confront your adversaries and they will flee from you. You receive all-round protection according to Isaiah 54:17. Your prayers will receive speedy answers from your Father in Heaven and finally, you will make it to Heaven when you close your eyes in death. In other words, you will escape the agony of the second death as it is written in Revelation 21 :8. Praise the Lord!

PRAYER POINT:
Father, give me the power to become Your child today. I reject the devil and his deeds. I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior forever, in the mighty name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL MONDAY 10TH MAY 2021: EXPECTING A BEITER TOMORROW?

MEMORISE:
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. 1Corinthians 2:9

READ: 1 Kings 19:19-21

19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

MESSAGE:
Some people do not get the best from God because they hold on to what they think is good and miss out on something better. Elisha was rich; he was the son of one of the wealthiest farmers of his era. By today’s valuation, his father could be said to have had twelve tractors working on his large farmland. Any farmer who has twelve tractors, without doubt, can be classified as a multimillionaire. Elisha was comfortable; however, God had something greater for him.

Don’t be among those who settle for the minimum level of prosperity while the maximum is begging for possession. God wants to take you to the highest level of wealth attainable. Elisha thought he was wealthy, but he did not know that a day would come when kings would serve him and call him ” Father!” He thought he was going to die a rich farmer but God had a better plan for him. God has a glorious plan for you too. Presidents will serve you before you leave this world.

Elisha was wise. When he encountered God, he traded his level of achievement for a higher one by allowing God to have His way in his life. Elisha surrendered; he gave up sugar to receive honey. On the day the mantle of Elijah fell upon him, his life changed. God brought Elisha to the realm of ultimate greatness. He knew then that to receive ultimate greatness from God, he needed to surrender what he was holding on to. Beloved, you must offer God what appears to be your best at the moment, so that He can give you what is better than your best. Peter and the disciples did the same in Mark 10:28, and were eventually rewarded:
“…Lo, we have left and have followed thee.”

How will God give you the best He has in store for you? What wi11 God do to make you rich beyond your wildest imagination? I don’t really know. However, one thing I know is that God can do anything just to bless you. Whatever He has promised He will definitely fulfil. If you are expecting a better tomorrow, be prepared to give up and surrender your best to God today. He will surely reciprocate by giving you something better than your best.

ACTION POINT:
Cry unto God today and ask Him to intervene in your situation.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY 8TH MAY 2021: CONSISTENT SOWING.

MEMORISE:
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

READ: 1 Kings 3:4,

4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.

1 Kings 8:63-64
63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.
64 The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

MESSAGE:
You must keep sowing if you want to experience abundance. This is because while the first seed may open the door to blessings; it takes persistent sowing to keep the door open permanently. What opened the door of blessing for the widow of Zarephath was the first cake she made for Elijah; however, what kept the food flowing was that she kept on making food for God’s prophet every day. Persistent giving will lead you to a life of unlimited abundance. Had the widow of Zarephath stopped giving by the third day, then her own source of supply could have dried up.
“And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord. 1 Kings 8:63

The first time Solomon sacrificed to God, he offered a thousand burnt offerings (1 Kings 3:4). However, as you would see from the Scripture above, God prospered him so much that he later sacrificed one hundred and forty-two thousand oxen. Solomon kept on increasing in wealth because he kept on giving. In the end, he became so rich that nobody could attempt to count the amount of silver he had. In the name that is above every other, you will be so rich that only higher denominations like the hundred dollar note and its equivalent will make sense to you.

The mystery behind the abundance the widow of Zarephath experienced is her uncommon faith in God. She gave her only food to Elijah because she saw importance of surrendering her future into the hands of his God. Before this secret of abundant blessing works for you, you too must first surrender your life to Jesus, if you haven’t. Then you must consistently sow the seed of righteousness, peace and love with diligence. Rest assured your labor of love in life and ministry will not be in vain.

Every seed you are sowing with tears today will yield a continuous harvest to your credit in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, I commit my life into Your hand. Please, let my future be great, and let me enjoy a continuous harvest for the rest of my life, in the mighty name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY 7TH MAY 2021: WHAT YOU SOW, YOU WILL REAP!

MEMORISE:
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6

READ: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

MESSAGE:
Many years ago, I give seven elders of the church some neckties I had been wearing previously, assuring them that the items were anointed. To the glory of God, whenever they ministered with those neckties on, miracles happened. However, not long after, I observed a trend; I started getting gifts of neckties. I asked God “Can’t these people give me something other than neckties?” God said “Son, if you sow ties, you will reap ties”. I immediately got the message and decided to start sowing shoes. I gave out a good number of shoes, among which were some of my favorites to some pastors who wore similar sizes. I expected a harvest of new shoes the month after but there was none. When another month rolled by and I still didn’t get anything, I went to God. It was then that the Lord taught me another lesson; He said “Son if you plant maize, you can harvest it within three months, but if you plant yam, you have to wait a Iittle longer.” James5:7 says:
“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.”

God said to me “The greater the quality of the seed sown, the more time you have to spend waiting for the harvest. The shoes you sowed are of greater value than the ties you gave out. Thus, you will have to wait a little longer. Once the harvest starts however, there would be no stopping it”. Not long after, I began to get gifts of shoes – different sizes and colors. When the harvest eventually came in full, I was pleasantly surprised.

As a child of God, you must bear in mind that God is supreme, and He does as He pleases in alI situations and circumstances (Psalm 115:3). God may choose to act differently in terms of the nature, quantity and timing of individual’s harvest. He can cause your harvest to come sooner or later than expected. What is certain however, is that if you have sown any seed, the harvest will come at God’s appointed time. You will not miss your harvest, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please help me not to be weary in well-doing and help me to be more fruitful every day of my life.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 5TH MAY 2021–GIVE AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN TO YOU.

MEMORISE:
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. Proverbs 11:24

READ: Luke 6:38

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

MESSAGE:
Givers always get the attention of Heaven; I know this from the story of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4:8-17. When you do what God wants, He will respond by meeting your needs supernaturally and promptly. The Shunammite woman took care of Elisha; she demonstrated an uncommon commitment to the man of God. As a result, one day, the Spirit of God led Elisha to ask her what she needed. The man of God found out she was barren and prophesied into her life in 2 Kings 4:16-17:
“….About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the woman conceived and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.”

Without fail, God’s word through Elisha came to pass. Beloved, when you give to God sacrificially, the impossible will become possible in your life. I recall a brother who volunteered to drive me everywhere I went while on a ministerial assignment in Eastern Nigeria. When it was time for me to leave, I gave him some money in appreciation of his gesture, saying “Brother, kindly give this small gift to your children”. His response shocked me. He shouted “Amen” continuously and prayerfully. I asked the Pastor-in¬ Charge of that Province why the brother was so enthusiastic about the gift I gave his children. I was told that although the brother was so rich, he didn’t have any child. I said God would surprise him with a miracle. When I visited the city the following year, the same brother was at the airport to pick me up. However, this time, he surprised me with a gift. With tears of joy streaming down his face, he said ”This is a gift from my first son”. He who had been childless for years became a proud father miraculously, simply by offering to drive God’s servant in his car and believing the word of the Lord. His reproach was rolled away. I pray that your next offering will bring a gift that money cannot buy into your life in Jesus’ name. Begin to give sacrificially from today and the Lord will bless you beyond your wildest dreams.

ACTION POINT:
Look around you, find someone in need and bless him or her.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL MONDAY 3RD MAY 2021: WHAT TO DO TO GET THE BEST.

MEMORISE:
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

READ: Philippians 4:15-16

15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

MESSAGE:
One of the qualities which earned Elisha greatness is that he was hard-working. Beloved, if God decides to bless you today but you are lazy, you will never get the blessing. If you want extraordinary blessings, then you must be prepared to work extraordinarily hard. Proverbs 22:29 says:
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

Elisha did not walk around lazily, only dishing instructions to his father’s laborers; rather he worked along with them as we see in 1 Kings 19 :19. All of Jesus’ disciples were hard-working too. He called each one of them while they were on the pathway of duty. Peter was a skillful fisherman before the Lord called him,
Matthew too was at his tax collection point when he was called by the Lord. Beloved, Christianity does not excuse anyone from work.

In my early days as a Christian, I had some believer friends who were quite lazy; they preferred to talk big than to work hard. We were all taught the principles of faith and positive confessions, but I knew that achieving greatness in life goes beyond mere confessions. Some of my friends would always make positive confessions without any corresponding hard work to back them up. They spent years saying “I am a millionaire and I possess a good car by faith” without working. In the end, they remained as poor as they were at the beginning of their confessions. Beloved, if you refuse to work and you go about confessing that you have claimed the car of your dreams by faith, the only car You will end up with will be your two legs.

Another quality which earned Elisha greatness is that he was very generous. As soon as he was called, he Prepared a feast and fed his people. What qualified the Philippians for God’s supplies in Philippians 4:l9 is found in verses 15-18. As you work hard and give generously to God’s work as well as the needy in
in your neighborhood, God will bless you beyond your imagination, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, give me the strength to work hard. Please also give me the seed to sow into Your kingdom and the lives of the needy.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY 2ND MAY 2021: DIVINE RESTORATION.

MEMORISE:
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Psalm 51:12

READ: Ezekiel 37:1-10

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones,

2 And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.

4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.

5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

8 And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.

9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

MESSAGE:
Our God does not only create, He can also restore as we see in today’s Scripture reading. You will experience this kind of restoration today in Jesus’ name. The story is the restoration of dry bones. Ezekiel was taken to the valley of dry bones by the Spirit of God. Dry bones, of course, signify a state hopelessness and lifelessness. When he got there, the Almighty God had a dialogue with him. Is it not amazing that whenever God wants to perform wonders, He dialogues? He did the same when He fed the five thousand in Mark 6:30-43. The fact that God dialogues with His children does not mean He does not know what to do at any given time; rather it means that He likes to fellowship with His children. God dialogued with Ezekiel and the wonder working process began.

The first lesson in this story is that whenever the Spirit of God is upon an individual, the fellow would be able to do the impossible. Ezekiel was not even sure if the dry bones could live or not. He was just a prophet. The second lesson is that we must always acknowledge the sovereignty of God in all matters, no matter how pressing or ridiculous the case at hand may be. Ezekiel said only God knew if the bones could live again. He acknowledged God’s power. 1Corinthians 1:25,27 says:
“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men… But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

Whenever we acknowledge God’s sovereignty, there will be a mighty manifestation of wonders. Ezekiel responded positively to the instructions God gave him concerning the dry bones, he prophesied, and the result was a mighty army. Beloved, without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing; however, with Him all things are possible.

Whenever the Spirit of God is, there is liberty, miracles, sign, and wonders. These good things will be your portion this season, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please speak to my situation today. Restore unto me everything the enemies have destroyed In my life, in the mighty name of Jesus.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY 1ST MAY 2021: SECRETS OF FRUITFULNESS.

MEMORISE:
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

READ: Genesis 26:12-14

12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

MESSAGE:
God may grant you financial favor, but it is your responsibility to work towards getting to the pinnacle of all-round abundance. You must be diligent physically, mentally, and spiritually. Hebrews 11:6 says God “is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Diligence in hard work is always rewarded. We can learn something from farmers here. As they nurture the good seeds they have planted, they also work hard to get rid of the weeds that grow alongside them. Beloved, beyond hard work, you need to plan carefully and pray hard. Genesis 26:12-13 says:

“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:”

Anyone who desires an encounter with God, which will result in abundant blessings, must be ready to work hard and pray hard. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:6:
“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gavethe increase.”

He recognized that while he may have done his part, God had a huge role to play. Beloved, lazy people cannot experience all-round blessings. If you are not prepared to work hard and pray hard, then you are not ready for any form of super-abundance.

You must involve God in your planning then watch Him give you abundant fruitfulness and an overflowing harvest (Proverbs 16:3). As Malachi 3:10 prescribes, you must also be sure to honor God with your substance: your tithes, offering, and the very first of every increase you receive (first-fruits). Until you begin to do this, you may not be able to enjoy the full benefits of your hard-earned harvest.

Some harvests are wasting away because of disobedience. Many people are fruitless simply because they refuse to obey God’s command, thus their harvests go into bags with holes.

Put God first from today and you will experience unprecedented abundance.

ACTION POINT:
Think of the ways in which you have been deficient in your responsibility to God-in tithe, offering, first-fruit and giving to the poor. Repent and make restitution.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY 30TH APRIL 2021. THE HARVEST WILL SURELY COME.

MEMORISE:
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. James 5:7

READ: Genesis 8:20-22
20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

MESSAGE:

The time between sowing and harvesting could be short or long depending on the type of seed and some environmental factors. Farmers know this; thus, they are never in a hurry. However, some believers today are of the opinion that they can sow in the morning and reap that same morning. They must remember that the duration of the harvest is dependent on what you want to reap. Some crops can be harvested within three to six months, and others may require more time.

There are set procedures for harvesting. The seed must first die before it sprouts, then within a specified period it grows until it bears fruit. It is only at the stage of maturity that farmers begin to harvest.

As children of God, you must learn to wait. Romans 12:12 says your attitude while waiting must be such that you are always:
“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”

Sadly, some ‘believers’ are too much in a hurry to take their harvest. They engage in anti-Christian practices and end up burning their spiritual fingers in the fire of lust and greed (1 Timothy 6:10).

The harvest can be in any form: promotion, compensation, recognition of hard work among others. When you are putting in your best in an organization, you must wait for the management to appreciate your devotion to work, and not begin to agitate for it. In fact, what you think is ‘best service’ may just be you being zealous or ambitious.

It may shock you if your employer says your best is not good enough for recognition. This is why you must remain humble and continue to work faithfully. I recall a farmer who hurriedly harvested his yam many years ago; he ended up depriving himself of a bumper harvest as his impatience disrupted the growth potential of the tubers. Unripe yam tubers are never as delicious as those harvested at maturity.

I pray that as you sow on good ground, your harvest will come bountifully. The Almighty will give you patience to wait for it, in the mighty name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please help me to patiently wait for my day of glorification, in the mighty name of Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 14-16.

HYMN 25: THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

1. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

o Refrain:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3. There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come, and now honor Thy Word.

4. There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

5. There shall be showers of blessing,
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
If we let God have His way.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY 28TH APRIL 2021: THE AGONY OF DEFEATED CHAMPIONS.

MEMORISE:
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14

READ: Joshua 7:1-5

1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.

3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.

4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

MESSAGE:
It is painful enough to be defeated in one round of contest, but even more so if one becomes an ex-champion, surrendering a crown totally. This is because as soon as a fellow emerges as a champion, people’s expectations of him or her would have increased. The attention of so many people- enemies inclusive, would be on the person. Thus, a champion has more enemies than ordinary contender. I pray that you will not be an ex-champion in the mighty name of Jesus.

The story in today’s Scripture reading is a sad one. The people of God had just recorded a victory over the great city of Jericho and were going to occupy a small village called Ai. To their surprise, they were utterly defeated. Their leader Joshua was downcast but he understood the reason for the defeat after he enquired from God. There is a lesson from this event: it is that there is always a reason for every setback a child of God suffers. Therefore, it is very important for children of God to carry out periodic self-examinations. James 1:13-15 says:
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

God warned the Israelites not to take anything from Jericho after its destruction. Achan however defied the instruction; he stole part of the accursed materials. This singular act of disobedience turned the entire nation to ex-war champions, and they remained so until the accused things, the thief and his household were removed from the congregation of the people of God.

Beloved, you must abstain from ungodliness because it is deadly. Romans 6:23 says “the wages of sin is death·” Once you are forgiven, you have to forsake sin and then restitute your ways. Jesus Christ told the man He graciously healed in John 5:14 to go and sin no more, so that something even more terrible would not befall him. As you go out today, examine yourself and see if you are standing right with God (2Corinthians13:5). May the Lord grant you victory always.

PRAYER POINT:
Holy Spirit, please help me to be vigilant in maintaining my victory in Christ. Help me Lord, so I do not fall into any temptation.
