OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY JUNE 16TH 2022 DON’T INTERFERE WITH GOD’S PLAN

MEMORISE: For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

READ: Matthew 26:39 -42
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

MESSAGE
Occasionally, what God has for your life may contradict everything you want, but He is your manufacturer, He made you for a certain purpose and whether you believe it or not, fulfilling that purpose is the best thing that can ever happen to you. When my Father-in-the-Lord mentioned to me, after he returned from a trip to Israel, that God told him to ordain me, my wife and I fasted for fourteen days, praying that God would not let that happen. At that time, my monthly salary was more than the entire income of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. I had just escaped poverty and I did not want to go back to it. Today, I thank God that He didn’t answer that prayer – not because of prosperity, but because of the joy of seeing how many people are blessed. There are certain things money cannot buy. Don’t interfere with God’s plan for your life, let His will be done. Be like David who said in Psalm 31:15:

My times are in thy hand…

Don’t interfere with God’s plan for your children. You may have plans for your child, but you must recognize that you did not make him or her – God did and He had a purpose for bringing that child into the world. Why don’t you pray and ask God what His plan for your child is? You can then guide the child correctly in fulfilling God’s purpose for his or her life. I know of a person whose mother said, “My child must be an engineer”. The boy spent several years in the Faculty of Engineering and just kept on failing, so he was asked to withdraw. He then decided to transfer to another faculty. His mother insisted that if he could not be an engineer, he should be an architect, so he moved to architecture. The boy kept on saying he wanted to be an artist, but the mother insisted that an architect also draws. He spent more than 8 years in the university and left with nothing.

Don’t interfere with God’s plan – either for yourself or your children. Don’t let those childhood dreams of yours that you could not fulfil dictate what your child should become. Don’t let your desire to boast amongst your friends dictate the destiny of your child; let God and God alone determine what that child will become. Ask God for His plan for that child and don’t interfere with it.

PRAYER POINT
Father, my times and those of my children are in your hands, Lord. Do with us as you please and help us to fulfill your plans for our lives in Jesus name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 40-42

HYMN 28: HYMN 28: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

AIYEMIDARA-NEW RELEASE

AIYEMIDARA is a Praise/prophetic song that came out of my mouth in 2006 on the walk way of the University of Ilorin. I tried so hard to get admitted into the university for so many years after my SSCE but it didn’t work. I passed my jamb exams for good 4 years but admission was just difficult. In 2006, post UME was introduced and all you needed to be admitted was a 50 50 pass mark but I had 120 120 and my name was number 4 on the admission list. On my way home after registration and clearance, Aiyemidara came through in my heart and I sang it out that day. Brothers and sisters, forget the level where you are and praise God with this prophetic song then watch our God make your life beautiful indeed. God has never stopped doing wonders and yours won’t be an exception in Jesus name…..Eje ajumo gbe ga ??? come let’s exalt Him together

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY JUNE 15TH 2022 THE NEED FOR COUNSELLORS

MEMORISE: Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14

READ: Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

MESSAGE
A counsellor is somebody who has a lot of knowledge in a particular field and is willing to share that knowledge with others who need it to solve their problems. Sometimes, a counselor is a professional in a particular field of practice and sometimes, it is someone with vast experience in an area of life. Whatever the case is, he or she has the knowledge that you need to solve your problems. When you have counsellors in virtually every area of life, you have the knowledge you need to solve your problems.

Going by today’s Bible readings, you should know straightaway that you need counselors in any field of your life where you may be lacking in some knowledge. For example, if you don’t know the law so well and you need to draw an agreement or do anything that requires deep understanding of the law, then you should get a lawyer, you can find a book or an article on that issue and study it. The knowledge you would gain from studying such materials would provide the counsel you need. If you are having issues in your marriage and you don’t know how to resolve them, why don’t you look for a godly marriage counselor to learn what you need to do: if you are having issues with your finances, then look for a finance expert to help you out. If you need help about something spiritual, talk to your Pastor. Some people, however, deny that they lack the required knowledge to solve their problems, while some who admit that they need knowledge go in search of it in the wrong places. Both categories of people described above are clearly headed for destruction. Hosea 4:6,

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee…

In what area of life have you been having problems and are in need of a counselor? Think about it thoroughly. Instead of getting into deeper trouble in that area, why don’t you look for someone who has the required competence in that field and let him or her counsel you? You must be careful however and reject any counsel that is not in line with the word of God.

PRAYER POINT
Father, bring godly counsellors my way. – people who will give me good advice to make my life better, in Jesus name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 38- 39

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN12: MY FAITH LOOKS TO THEE
1 My faith looks up to thee,
thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine.
Now hear me while I pray;
take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day
be wholly thine!

2 May thy rich grace impart
strength to my fainting heart;
my zeal inspire!
As thou hast died for me,
oh, may my love to thee
pure, warm, and changeless be,
a living fire!

3 While life’s dark maze I tread,
and griefs around me spread,
be thou my guide.
Bid darkness turn to day,
wipe sorrow’s tears away,
nor let me ever stray
from thee aside.

4 When ends life’s transient dream,
when death’s cold, sullen stream
shall o’er me roll,
blest Savior, then, in love,
fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above,
a ransomed soul!

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL MONDAY JUNE 13TH 2022 WHEN YOU SAY ‘THANK YOU LORD’

MEMORISE: In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 2 Chronicles 1:7

READ: 2 Chronicles 1:6 -12
6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.

7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.

8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.

9 Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

MESSAGE
There is something very interesting that I discovered about God and that is His attitude when someone tells Him, “Thank you”. For example, in 2 Chronicles 1:6-7, Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings to God to say, “Thank You Lord, for making me the king”. In return, God visited him at night and said, “Ask for whatever you want and I will give it to you”.

In Genesis 8:20-22, Noah offered a sacrifice to God in appreciation for sparing his life and those of his family members. God responded by making a promise to never destroy the earth with water again and that seed time and harvest would never cease.
God always ensures that He is the last to say, “Thank you”. The bigger the ‘thank you’ you say to Him, the bigger His response to ‘thank you’ will be. This tells us that “Thank You, Lord” is the best prayer point you can ever pray. Just saying, “Thank You, Lord” made Solomon the wisest and richest man that ever lived. If you can just learn to say thank you for all that God has done for you in the past, then you will get more in the future. Wise people go one step further: they thank God for what He is yet to do. You can be sure that His response will be very big.

Now, God cannot be deceived. He knows the difference between heartfelt thanks and insincere appreciation. There are certain things that follow real, heartfelt thanksgiving. For example, someone who is really thankful will sing praises to God (Psalm 7:17). The fellow who is thankful will tell everyone about how good God is (Psalm 9:1). If you meet a doctor who treats and heals you of a very stubborn ailment, wouldn’t you tell everyone you know with that ailment about your doctor?

That shows that you really appreciate what He has done for you. If you don’t witness, you are ungrateful to God for saving your soul from hell. The one who is truly thankful will not say thank you with empty hands; he or she will come with something to express that appreciation. Psalm 107:22 talks about the sacrifice of thanksgiving. When you are really grateful to God, you will always be on the lookout for something you can give to or do for Him. Are you really thankful?

KEY POINT
When you say , “Thank you” to God , He respond with a bigger “Thank you.”

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 34-35

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN 15: NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD
1 Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mothers’ arms
has blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

2 O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever joyful hearts
and blessed peace to cheer us,
to keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
of this world in the next.

3 All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son and Spirit blest,
who reign in highest heaven
the one eternal God,
whom heaven and earth adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY JUNE 12TH 2022 WORKERS ARE BLESSED

MEMORISE: For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:10

READ: Hebrews 6:9 -20
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

MESSAGE
In the memory verse for today, the Bible says that God is not unrighteous to forget all the work and labour that you do in His name. Being a worker in the vineyard of God can be tough sometimes, many a time,. You have to make personal sacrifices of your resources just to ensure that the work of God keeps going.

At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. Deuteronomy 24;15

Since the Lord has said that no one should owe their workers wages, He will surely pay yours. I can say that confidently because I have been working for Him fulltime for over 40 years now.

Many years ago, I travelled abroad for a programme. Whenever I went to that city, there was a particular brother who would always pick me up at the airport. On our way to where I would stay, there was a car shop where second-hand Rolls Royce cars were sold and I usually told the brother driving me that one day, I would go in there and buy one for myself. On this particular trip, I said the same thing when we passed the place then shortly after that, I saw a boutique advertising a sale (discount); I told him to stop so that I could buy some clothes. When we got into the store, the discounted prices of the clothes on sale were still too high for me, so I left the place annoyed. “I thought these peoples said they were doing sales” I complained. The brother laughed. He laughed because I who said I will buy a Rolls Royce could not even afford clothes that were on sales at reduced prices. I then turned to God and said, “You are my employer. This man is laughing at your employee, so please do something about it.” The next time I visited the city , another brother was waiting for me with a Rolls Royce car. The brother came to me and said, “Daddy, I brought this car for you.”

I want you to challenge God today- tell Him whatever it is that you need. I am joining my faith with every true worker of God that says this prayer today. My God will answer your prayer in Jesus name.

KEY POINT
God is not unrighteous to forget your labour of love.

HYMN 24: THROUGH THE LOVE OF GOD OUR SAVIOR
1 Through the love of God our Saviour,
all will be well.
Free and changeless is his favour,
all, all is well.
Precious is the blood that healed us,
perfect is the grace that sealed us,
strong the hand stretched forth to shield us,
all must be well.

2 Though we pass through tribulation,
all will be well.
Ours is such a full salvation,
all, all is well.
Happy, still in God confiding,
fruitful, if in Christ abiding,
holy, through the Spirit’s guiding,
all must be well.

3 We expect a bright tomorrow,
all will be well.
Faith can sing through days of sorrow,
‘All, all is well.’
On our Father’s love relying,
Jesus every need supplying,
in our living, in our dying,
all must be well.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY JUNE 10TH 2022 TEACH THEM TO AVOID EVIL COMPANY

THEME: TEACH THEM TO AVOID EVIL COMPANY

MEMORISE: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20

READ: 2 Corinthians 6:14 -18
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

MESSAGE
It is not every friend that you should allow your children to get close to 1 Corinthians 15:33 says:

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Many parents allow their children to befriend Jonadabs (2 Samuel 13:3-5), saying this is the age of freedom. What foolishness! Our memory verse today states clearly that we would become like the people we keep company with.
Do you want your child to be destroyed? An adage says, “Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”. If your child has a close friend who is not a child of God, that child is already on his way to becoming a prey to the devil. Separate your children from such friends immediately.

I have a responsibility over my own children. As a young boy; when all my friends were playing outside, my mother would say to me, “Come in and study”. I would say to her, “But the other children are playing”. She would respond by saying, “Others are not my business; you are my business”. Today I thank God for my mother because she was very firm with me.

Psalm 1:1-3 tells us that those who want to be blessed must stay away from certain people. They must stay away from the ungodly, sinners and scorners. Tell your children that if they want to enjoy good success in life, they must choose their friends carefully. The only prerequisite for choosing a friend, according to Proverbs 13:20 is that the fellow must be wise. Remember that the beginning of wisdom is in the fear of God. If that friend is not a true child of God, your child should not befriend him or her.

Communication does not stop at friendship. The phone which almost every child has nowadays is a major tool of communication. The child must avoid evil communication on the phone too. Check the kind of movies and shows they watch on television. Don’t allow just anything because we are in a modern age; the word of God is ever relevant – if the communication is evil, it will corrupt their manners.

ACTION POINT
Audit your children’s friends and the kind of content they have on their gadgets and devices.

HYMN 7: I LOVE THIS FAMILY OF GOD
1 I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God,
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
The Family of God.

2 You will notice we say “brother and sister” ’round here,
It’s because we’re a family and these are so near;
When one has a heartache, we all share the tears,
And rejoice in each victory in this family so dear.

3 I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God,
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
The Family of God.

4 From the door of an orphanage to the house of the King,
No longer an outcast, a new song I sing;
From rags unto riches, from the weak to the strong,
I’m not worthy to be here, but praise God I belong!

5 I’m so glad I’m a part of the Family of God,
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His Blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I’m part of the family,
The Family of God

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY JUNE 9TH 2022 TEACH BY EXAMPLE

MEMORISE: In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Titus 2:7

READ: Titus 2:6 -8
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

MESSAGE
The best way to teach your children is by example, not just with word. Ezekiel 16:44 says:

Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother; so is her daughter.

It is what you do that your children will copy. It is how they see you talk that they will talk too. Oh yes, you teach them, but your actions teach them far more than your words do. The reason some Pastors’ children are not born again is that what their parent say and do in Church is different from what they say and do at home. You cannot hide anything from your children; they know the real you. You may not know it, but when a fast is declared in Church and you are eating, your children notice. That singular act has taught them something that is different from what you have been saying with your words. They are watching you; it is not what you say that is most important, it is what you do.

When I was in Ilorin, people who were sick and needed healing used to come to the house for prayers. I would close my eyes, lay hands on them and pray. The anointing would make some of them fall. One of my sons was about 2-3 years old then. One day, someone came to visit us with his child. My son went to my room, took my tie, wore it, went to the visitor’s child, closed his eyes and laid his hands on him. After a while, when he opened his eyes and saw that the boy was still standing, he said, “Fall now”. He thought it was the wearing of the tie that made people I prayed for fall. Today, my children are pastors in the The Redeemed Christian Church of God.

If the parents are not following God, what example will the children follow? If your son still sees you chasing after women, how will you expect him to stay away from fornication? If your daughter sees you bribing a teacher for her to pass an exam, how will you teach her about integrity and honesty? Like father like son, like mother like daughter. If you are not yet born again and living holy, it is your example that your children will follow. Show them the way to the Light so that they don’t end up in darkness.

ACTION POINT
God can boldly ask your children to copy everything you do, even in secret.

HYMN 14: NEARER MY GOD TO THEE
1. Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee! E’en though it be a cross That raiseth me. Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

2. Though like the wanderer, The sun gone down, Darkness be over me, My rest a stone, Yet in my dreams I’d be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

3. There let the way appear, Steps unto heav’n; All that thou sendest me, In mercy giv’n; Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

4. Then with my waking thoughts Bright with thy praise, Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise; So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee!

5. Or if, on joyful wing Cleaving the sky, Sun, moon, and stars forgot, Upward I fly, Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer to thee

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY JUNE 7TH 2022 TEACH THEM TO RESPECT THE ANNOINTED

MEMORISE: Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Psalms 105:15

READ: Psalms 105:14 -15
14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;

15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

MESSAGE
…touch not my anointed, and do my prophet no harm. Psalm 105:15

In the above passage, no age limitation was mentioned. God didn’t say, “Elders, touch not my anointed … and then say, “Children you can do what you like with the anointed”. When a child touches a hot iron it doesn’t go cold simply because it was touched by a child; the child will be burnt just as an adult would have been. The anointing is not something to toy with at all. Many young people have evoked curses upon themselves because they did not respect the anointed. If the anointed one knew all the cases, maybe he would have been able to intercede for them, but many a time, he or she is not even aware that some young people may have ridiculed him; the fire would just go to work.

Children are not exempted from suffering the consequences of attacking God’s anointed in word or deed. In 2 Kings 2:23-24, some children insulted the anointed of God and died instantly. Please teach your children not to join others in mocking anyone, not to talk of men or women of God. If you read Numbers 16:1-35, you will see that those who attack the anointed of God could die suddenly. Teach your children, no matter how young or old they may be, never to disrespect the anointed because it could cost them their lives.

David was a man who respected the anointed. When Saul was seeking to kill David and the latter had an opportunity to take his life, he chose not to. His parents had taught him to respect the anointed and you can see that in 1 Samuel 16:19-20. That is why even though the Bible says that there were wars about him from side to side (I Kings 5:3), he did not die in battle; rather, he died a natural death when he was old.

Don’t let your children play with fire; teach them that the anointed must be respected. Even when the anointed is wrong, it is not their duty to mete out punishment to the fellow. Leave God to punish His servant Himself.

KEY POINT
There is no age limit to those who must not touch the anointed of God.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL MONDAY JUNE 6TH 2022 TEACH THEM WHAT TO APPRECIATE

THEME: TEACH THEM WHAT TO APPRECIATE

MEMORISE: Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1

READ: 2 Corinthians 3:18
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

MESSAGE
There is a spiritual law called the Law of Transformation and it simply says that whatever you admire is what you are likely to become. We are designed to transform into whatever we focus our attention upon, as today’s Bible reading clearly states.
Beloved, as you behold the Lord, you are transformed into the same image from glory to glory. Elisha appreciated Elijah and he ended up with a double portion of the latter’s anointing. Joshua appreciated Moses; when Moses was about to leave, he deposited the Spirit of wisdom in him. What your children appreciate from their youth is what they will likely become when grown. Teach them to appreciate people who are relevant in the society, godly people who live by Christian values. They can appreciate musicians, politicians or someone in any profession that they want, but make sure that whoever they appreciate is godly and responsible, with a high level of integrity.

When I was very young, a teacher came to teach in our village. He came with one of his relatives. This boy never wanted to study. We would always hear noise from the teacher’s room as he flogged the boy because he didn’t want to study. One day, the teacher asked him, ‘What do you want to become?” the boy said he wanted to become a wheelbarrow pusher. Apparently, the boy had been admiring a wheelbarrow pusher, so he wanted to become like him.

I also recall vividly another incident when I was still in elementary school. An Anglican Bishop visited our village in a brand-new car. He was dressed in a magnificent robe, and all students in my school, including myself, lined the route he was to pass through, singing as he arrived. When he got down form the car, I noticed his beautiful, shiny shoes, when I got home that day; I told my mother I was going to become a Bishop, Although I am not a Bishop today, I am very close.

You will know what your children appreciate from what they talk about and the songs they sing around the house. Redirect their focus to appreciate godly values and when they are grown, they will not depart from such (Proverbs 22:6).

ACTION POINT
Teach your children to appreciate godly values from their youth.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalms 12-17

HYMN 28: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

OPEN HEAVEN DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY JUNE 5TH 2022 TEACH THEM TO SEEK GOD

MEMORISE: Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. 1 Chronicles 16:11

READ: Psalms 9:10
10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

MESSAGE
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; Ecclesiastes 12:1

The above passage says that the best time for anyone to remember God is when the fellow is young. The best time for your children to seek Him is when they are young. God says in Proverbs 8:17:

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Tell your children to seek God early, before it is too late for them to find Him. Some young people say they will start seeking God after they have amassed material wealth. Let them know that you cannot truly ‘make it’ in life without your Maker. What the world calls ‘making it’ is only a façade. Many people who seem to have ‘made it’ look good on the outside, but inside, they are battling some terrible things. Urge your children to start seeking God now so that they can really be successful in life. Hebrews 11:6 says:

… and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. In other words, if you don’t seek Him diligently, don’t expect any reward. Psalm 34:10 says:

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

You have to teach your children that every good thing that they can ever want is in the Lord. Teach your children to seek the Lord and they will never lack any good thing. Teach them how to study the Bible. It is a pity that many people do Bible Study when they get to Church, but at home they rush the devotion. You have to teach them how to dig deep into the Scriptures and get revelations as they read their Bible. Teach them to ask God for whatever they want before they come and ask you. That is how you build in them the zeal to speak to God.

KEY POINT
Teach your children to seek God
