OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21ST 2016- THE ANOINTING MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Memorise: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Acts 10:38
Read: Matthew 17:14-21 (KJV)
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Bible in one year: Leviticus 15-16, Psalms 127-128

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The word ‘anointing’ is often used in the Old Testament in recognition of the Lord’s divine calling upon the lives of individuals. In addition, the anointing was a physical recognition of the particular role or office of people such as kings, prophets, or priests. However, the anointing in the New Testament is not limited to prophets and priests, it is birthright of every born again Child of God.
2. I once told my spiritual children that the new anointing is so powerful, that it can repeat whatever it has done for your spiritual fathers. It can re-open closed doors and turn the mocked into a celebrity.
3. In 1st Samuel 16:11-13, when Samuel came to the house of Jesse while shopping for a kingly candidate, nobody presented David. It was until Samuel specifically asked for him that he was summoned. But after David was anointed in 1st Samuel 22:1-2, the same brothers who saw nothing good in him came to submit themselves under his authority.
4. Have people written you off as a nobody? Do they deny you your rights and consider you unfit for any meaningful position? The anointing of God will reverse that situation in your life this season in Jesus’ name. You will be sought after. You will be transformed into a very important personality by the anointing.
5. Furthermore, 1st Corinthians 12:7 says: “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” The above verse shows that God’s anointing is not for flamboyance, globetrotting, or to be made merchandise of. On the contrary, the anointing is for making a difference in this evil world by living in holiness and righteousness, healing the sick, setting the captives free, making the barren fruitful, replacing sorrow with the joy and moving the impoverished into prosperity so that the Name of the Lord may be glorified.
6. To what extent does the anointing on you impact those in need of it? To what extent are you making a difference in your community?

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Anointing is one of the rights of every born again child of God. It is an essential birthright that every child of God should take note of its existence and utilize it rightly such that others around are blessed with it as well as the works of darkness is destroyed. When anointing comes on an ordinary man such becomes an extra ordinary being endued with power for the miraculous.
There is a striking paragraph in today’s devotional which says God’s anointing is not for flamboyance, globetrotting, or to be made merchandised of. Some anointed heirs of God have abandoned the good and healing our Lord Jesus did as recorded in our memory verse Acts 10:38 and fully engaged in flamboyancy, globetrotting and merchandising all because they are anointed. We are joint heirs with Christ and we should take on the good works of our Lord.
Jesus in John 14:12 says “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” This takes us to the fact that for us to carry out any good work and deliver those in bondage with the anointing deposited in us we must have faith and believe. Also Jesus told the disciples that they could not heal the boy because of their unbelief in Matthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[a] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. For the anointing upon us to make difference we must first know that the anointing is present in us and we must believe. Blessed be God for our father in the Lord Pastor E. A Adeboye for the great insight in today’s devotional. May he continually increase in strength and grace in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point
Father, wake me up to my responsibility of making a real difference in this world.
HYMN
1 O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found,
Wherever human hearts and human woes abound.
Let every Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound:
The Comforter has come!
Refrain:
The Comforter has come! The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n, the Father’s promise giv’n,
O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!
2 The long, long night is past; the morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast,
As o’er the golden hills the day advances fast!
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
3 Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full deliv’rance brings;
And thro’ the vacant cells the song of triumph rings;
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
4 O boundless love divine! How shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine –
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine?
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 20TH 2016- LYING NOT A CHRISTIAN VIRTUE

Memorise: A lying tongue hateth those that are affiliated by it; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin. Proverbs 26:28
Read: Ephesians 4:22-25 (KJV)
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Bible in one year: Leviticus 14, Psalms 125-126

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Indeed, lying is not a Christian virtue; on the contrary, one of the fruits of righteousness is the hatred of lies.
2. Today, the world has classified lies. Some are called heavy lies, some feather weight lies, some are white lies, some are green lies, some are business lies, some are ministerial lies; some are lies that cannot hurt a fly, while some are dangerous and implicating lies.
3. No matter how men, by their own opinions, choose to classify lies, deciding what a lie is, is not in the purview of men but of God; hence such classifications hold no water.
4. If you are a lover of lies, you are far from being righteous. If you tell lies at all, you are miles from being righteous. Do you know that if you keep away from sin and the only crime found in you after death is a lie, it will keep you from entering through the pearly gates?
5. Revelations 21:8 says that all categories of liars will be found in the lake of fire, not in Heaven: “And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the lamb’s book of life.” Nothing can ever take anyone in the above categories into Heaven.
6. A day is coming when everybody will go back to their father. After death, the devil will stand in the way to claim his own. He will ask some popular leaders and believers; “Where are you going?” they will reply: “I am going to Heaven of course”. The devil will laugh them to scorn. “Did you not read that all liars will go to hell in Revelations 21:8? You are my child, come with me to the lake of fire, our eternal abode”.
7. Make restitution on the lies you have told. Have you offered some people some benefits in a business transaction and you received the payment, but for one reason or the other, you did not give them what you promised? Go and return their money or else that lie and deceit will not allow you into Heaven.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

As rightly said by our Father in the Lord many people see lie as no sin or the smallest of all sin and they also feel it is right to lie in some circumstance thereby categorizing such lie to be White lies. But as far as God is concerned there nothing such as trivial sin and lie being categorized to eliminate guilt is unacceptable. Lie does not fall in the category of things that we can covert as advised by Apostle Paul in 1 Cor 12:31. It is made clear in our devotional today that if you keep away from sin and the only crime found in you is after death is lie, it will keep you from entering through the pearly gates.
We as Believers should endeavor to live out that name in our day to day activities. The word of God is the manual from which every child of God should operate from. It is like a principle of do this and get this. We should be convinced that all that is written in the scripture will not go unfulfilled and then adopt the dos and don’ts method as instructed by God in His word strictly. Rev 21:8 says “But the cowardly, unbelieving,[a] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Why then are we struggling to accept the fact that lies is as grievous and deadly as other sins and will lead anyone who gives in to it to hell.
God in His infinite mercy will help us to run from all sins and stand firm against all the strategies and lies of the devil to flood our hearts with such believe that lie can be categorized and that the category it falls into automatically makes it no sin. We pray for Pastor E.A Adeboye that the well of wisdom and knowledge of the word of God from which he feeds us with will never run dry in Jesus’ name

Prayer Point
Father, please deliver me from any sin that can prevent me from entering into Heaven.
HYMN
1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.
2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.
3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.
4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.
5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.
6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY, DECEMBER 19TH 2016- THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

Memorise: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2nd Timothy 4:7
Read: 1st Timothy 6:11-14 (KJV)
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Bible in one year: Leviticus 13, Psalms 123-124

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Darkness is associated with blindness, emptiness, uncertainty, inactivity, stagnancy, ignorance, failure, wickedness, fear and evil.
2. Darkness was dominant authority over the universe in the beginning, and this was evidently the status quo at the time of creation in Genesis 1:1. Then God said let there be light and there was light.
3. When there is light, darkness has no choice than to disappear. John 1:5 says,
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
4. There are lights of the sun, moon and stars. Then there are man-made lights of varying sizes. If you put on tiny torch in the midst of total darkness, you will only see the spot that the torch is pointing at.
5. Staying away from the Word automatically reduces your glow and ultimately your ability to control forces, situations and circumstances.
6. The Word is the sword of the Spirit and the chief weapon of our warfare as Christians.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Fighting a good fight of faith requires steadfastness in our relationship with God. We must be conscious of our aims and avoid anything that makes us compromise our salvation with the kingdom of darkness. Understanding that Satan has his own kingdom where all they do is to plan and strategise on how to pull down and discourage the children of God is important . However, as the bible says in all these we are more than conqueror, we must keep fighting, knowing that if God be for us, the battle is won. We must therefore not forget that, if we want God to fight on our behalf, we must remain in the LIGHT of God and have nothing to do with darkness. Jesus was able to overcome the devil because, Satan could not accuse Jesus because he found nothing of his in His hands. As the bible says ” I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me”. The question is , do you have anything in your possession that belongs to the devil which he can use against you? You cannot fight a good fight of faith if the accuser of brethren has his properties or luggage in your life. Please desist from any luggage of the devil and see God fighting your battles on your behalf. Blessed be God for our father in the Lord Pastor E. A Adeboye for the great insight in today’s devotional. May he continually increase in strength and grace in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point
Father, please baptize me in the pool of Your Word today in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 9
1 My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device nor creed;
I trust the Ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
Refrain:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
2 Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out. [Refrain]
3 My heart is leaning on the Word,
The written Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s name,
Salvation through His blood. [Refrain]
4 My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18TH 2016-A MESSENGER WITH A MESSAGE

Memorise: And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:15
Read: 2nd Timothy 4:1-5 (KJV)
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Bible in one year: Leviticus 10-12, Psalms 120-122

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The whole of the Bible and everything about Christianity is summed up in the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which arises naturally from believer’s love for God and the appreciation of all that He has done for us, is known as evangelism.
2. The focus of evangelism is the proclamation of the good news of the coming of the kingdom of God, including forgiveness of sins and hope of eternal life, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
3. Jesus feet are said to be polished brass. This indicates that His feet are empowered trample upon His enemies.
4. If you are truly located in your place of authority in Christ Jesus, the only place your enemies can be is under your feet.
5. Every soul you win for God’s Kingdom turns your feet to be as strong as the Lord’s so that you can easily have victory over your enemies.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Let’s awake from ignorance and understand the power and benefits in the primary assignment committed to us by Christ Jesus. Evangelism is also a weapon for answers to our prayers, it is high time we open our understanding of the truth behind winning souls to the kingdom of God. Like we also say, if you have prayed about a resistance situation, switch on to praising your maker and if that seems not to be enough, why not try evangelism. As the bibles says in John 15:16 ” You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. Brethren, truly we have not chosen Him, he has appointed and ordained us to the ministry of reconciliation of souls and if we do it faithfully, the rewards are enormous. One of which is the ability to ask anything in His name and receive answers. Blessed be God for our father in the Lord Pastor E. A Adeboye for the great insight in today’s devotional. May he continually increase in strength and grace in Jesus’ name

Prayer Point
Father, please make me an effective soul winner in Jesus’ name.

HYMN
1 Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
leads again the foe;
Forward into battle,
see his banner go!
Refrain:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
going on before!
2 At the sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
at the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
loud your anthems raise! [Refrain]
3 Like a mighty army
moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine,
one in charity. [Refrain]
4 Onward, then, ye people,
join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
in the triumph song;
Glory, laud, and honor,
unto Christ the King;
This thro’ countless ages
men and angels sing. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY , DECEMBER 17TH 2016- PRAYING OR MURMURING

Memorise: Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2
Read: Luke 15:25-32 (KJV)
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Bible in one year: Leviticus 8-9, Psalms 119:161-172

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. In Christianity, prayer is generally defined as a solemn request for divine intervention or an expression of thanksgiving addressed to the Almighty God. It is therefore clear that prayer is not synonymous with murmuring, protest, demand, or complains.
2. A proper understanding of the art of prayer and the type of prayer that brings results is very important in Christianity.
3. Depending on the situation, some prayers can take on a casual form while others may wear a garb of seriousness.
4. The intensity of your thanksgiving prayer will differ in a case where you experienced a hitch-free trip compared to when you met with several difficulties during the trip but eventually arrived safely. The Psalmist in Psalms 130:1-2 talks of calling unto God out of the deep.
5. When there is no imminent danger, and you are in the comfort of your air-conditioned bedroom praying, that kind of prayer will be sweet, smooth and leisure-like. But the one in the belly of a fish such as in Jonah’s case would definitely be different.
6. There is an extent to which you will pray and you will realize that you have gotten God’s attention.
7. What kind of prayer takes place in your family? How desperate are you? If you can pour out your heart to the Lord without being so mindful of grammar or who may be nearby, or who is looking or not looking at you, you will get His attention.
8. At the end of the day, what is important is getting answers to prayers and not whether you appear to men as being prayerful.
9. As you engage heaven in aggressive prayers this season, you will receive divine attention in Jesus’ name. Call on Him.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Whoever is convinced about 1 John 5:14-15 will eliminate complain, murmuring or protest while praying. Prayers that produced results in the Bible varied but none can be likened to complain or murmuring. There are people whom through them praying you get to know all their secret, issue or problem because they choose to introduce themselves to their maker. They go as far as telling God their house address, name, number of children etc. They end the prayer up not in Jesus name but by saying God why me or when will you answer me?
Prayer is a communication between God and man and such time must be effectively utilized. Matt. 7:7-8 says “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Note the scripture above didn’t say complain, protest or murmur and it shall be given unto you.
It is also important that we pray fervently always. The latter part of James 5:16 says”… The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. The Lord through the Holy spirit will help us to pray the right way that we may receive answers to our prayers in Jesus name.
It is our prayer also that our Father in the Lord Pastor E.A Adeboye shall be continually strengthened as he prays in Jesus name‎.

Prayer Point
Father, please, teach me to pray genuinely from today in Jesus name

HYMN

1 Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.
Refrain:
O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher ev’ry day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.
2 Deeper, deeper! blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will. [Refrain]
3 Deeper, deeper! tho’ it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow. [Refrain]
4 Deeper, higher, ev’ry day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last. [Refrain]
5 Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY , DECEMBER 16TH 2016- DIVINE PURPOSE

Memorise: And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? 1 Sam 17:29
Read: 1 Sam 17:26-29
26 Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
27 And the people answered him in this manner, saying, “So shall it be done for the man who kills him.”
28 Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
29 And David said, What have I done now? Is there not a cause?

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. Sometimes, you find yourself in a situation where you cannot explain your actions. All you know at that point is that you are strongly motivated by the Spirit of God to act in certain ways that are not really in your personal interest or for your benefit.
2. Such steps are usually seen by others as unreasonable, irrational, and sometimes foolish.
3. In the process of obeying God’s instruction, you ask yourself repeatedly; “What is going on?”
4. On one hand, you are excited, while on the other hand, there is fear and uncertainty.
5. Sometimes, a blend of opposition, obstacle, and criticism, comes in to make the situation more complex.
6. I pray that you will correctly discern the unusual opportunities that always precede the fulfilment of divine purpose in Jesus’ name.
7. May you not miss your unusual opportunities this year in Jesus’ name. God will open the eyes of your spiritual understanding to identify the signs of divine purpose in Jesus’ name.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Often times when you are directly or indirectly instructed by the spirit of God to do something it is not always an easy thing if not fully helped by God to do so. But for one to be helped you must be willing to obey. It is a standing standard since the inception of the world that when God through the Holy Spirit or a prophet tell someone to do something at a certain point in time, there is a divine purpose for such instruction. And if this instruction is duly and rightly carried out the reward and result is ever evident. Deuteronomy 28:1 says “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:”
The grace to diligently carry out God’s instruction and voice is bestowed upon us in Jesus name. Blessed be God for our father in the Lord Pastor E. A Adeboye for the great insight in today’s devotional. May he continually increase in strength and grace in Jesus’ name.

Prayer point
Father, please key me into Your divine calendar and help me fulfil Your purpose in my life in Jesus’ name
HYMN

  1. O Jesus, I have promised
    to serve thee to the end;
    be thou forever near me,
    my Master and my friend.
    I shall not fear the battle
    if thou art by my side,
    nor wander from the pathway
    if thou wilt be my guide.
    2. O let me feel thee near me!
    The world is ever near;
    I see the sights that dazzle,
    the tempting sounds I hear;
    my foes are ever near me,
    around me and within;
    but Jesus, draw thou nearer,
    and shield my soul from sin.
    3. O let me hear thee speaking
    in accents clear and still,
    above the storms of passion,
    the murmurs of self-will.
    O speak to reassure me,
    to hasten or control;
    O speak, and make me listen,
    thou guardian of my soul.
    4. O Jesus, thou hast promised
    to all who follow thee
    that where thou art in glory
    there shall thy servant be.
    And Jesus, I have promised
    to serve thee to the end;
    O give me grace to follow,
    my Master and my Friend.

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL THURSDAY , DECEMBER 15TH 2016- ARE PERILOUS TIMES HERE?

Memorise: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 Timothy 3:1
Read: 2Timothy 3:1-5
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
4 Traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 Having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The Bible reading for today, gives some important details about events that will surround the arrival of this period. This period is going to be the final epoch of history, marked by the coming of the messiah and the establishment of God’s kingdom.
2. The Bible tends to tie the terms “last days” and “perilous times” together pointing to the period between Jesus Christ’s first coming and the consummation of all things at His return.
3. This period will also be marked by by increased godlessness, false prophets, doctrines of devils, persecution, wickedness, war, and apostasy.
4. The Bible says truth will be watered down and sound doctrine will be replaced with fables.
5. This may be surprising, but the Lord hates every preacher and teacher of false doctrines.
6. Anyone who teaches you that you can continue to sin, since after all we are human beings and will still make it to Heaven, is heading for hell and wants to take you along. Watch out brethren, perilous times are here!
7. You will hear some say things like; “God is not as wicked as to fry His children in fire for minor sins and so there is no hell fire”, some also say that salvation is by what you are able to do; by works.
8. Backslidden pastors, ministers or workers are teaching false doctrines of mercy that is contrary to Romans 6:1-2. All these are taking people to hell in their millions. In what ways are your actions contradicting your teachings and messages? Such contradictions turn you into a false preacher!

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

The end time signs connotes the perilous times and the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ marks the end of this period. Today’s devotional made it clear that God detest every preacher and teachers of false doctrine and when a child of God listens to such teaching or preaching, such is at risk of derailing from the truth of God’s Word. This in turn brings such child of God to a place of disobedience of God’s instructions as he/she has fed on the wrong words over time.
False doctrine and teaching is one of the refined strategy of the devil and cohorts to pull many away from the way of the Lord into darkness. May God help as many of us in Christ to stand firm, get stronger and radical in bringing many to Christ and depopulate the kingdom of darkness in Jesus name.

Prayer Point
Father, please don’t let the dangers of this perilous times sweep my feet away in Jesus’ name.

HYMN

1 When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
when the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Refrain:
When the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
2 On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,
and the glory of His resurrection share;
ahen His chosen ones shall gather to their home beyond the skies,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. [Refrain]
3 Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun;
let us talk of all His wondrous love and care;
then when all of life is over, and our work on earth is done,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY , DECEMBER 14TH 2016- PROOF OF LOVE

Memorise: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Read: John 21:15-19
15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these? He said to Him, Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.
16 He said to him, Feed My lambs. He said to him again a second time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? He said to Him, Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, Tend My sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.
18 Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.
19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.
Bible in one year: Leviticus 1-3, Psalms 119:113-128
AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1. The Bible teaches Christians to love God. The Bible also teaches that such love should be expressed in worship and practical service.
2. One of the most important lesson the Bible teaches us in love is that love is unconditional, and that the ultimate test of love sacrifice.
3. When you are genuinely in love, making sacrifices for the one you love will be a thing of pleasure and not a burden.
4. No price is too much to pay for the you love.
5. Sacrifice helps to gauge your love for God. We can say God loves us exceedingly because He was prepared to part withHis only begotten a Son.
6. If you say you love God, you will be ready, like Paul was, to spend and be spent for Him.
‭‭

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

It is said and seen in John 15:13 that there is no greater love than a man laying down his life for his friends. Sacrifice is a symbol of unconditional and genuine love. And when you are able to carry out this sacrifice without second thought or grudges then it’s a proof of true love.
For most people (believers and Non believers) Love is easy to profess but the practical aspect of it is difficult. Exhibition of true love between husband and wife, parent and children, siblings, brethren and pastors, leaders etc is a big task for many. Then display of genuine love for our God is such a bigger task.
Payment of tithe, obedience to His words and great zeal for the progress of God’s kingdom and work without grudges or laziness is a way of showing Him You love Him unconditionally. May God help us all in Jesus name to love all round unconditionally.

Prayer Point
Father, please help me to fully appreciate Your sacrificial love for me.
Hymn 3
‭‭1 Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.
Refrain:
O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher ev’ry day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.
2 Deeper, deeper! blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will. [Refrain]
3 Deeper, deeper! tho’ it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow. [Refrain]
4 Deeper, higher, ev’ry day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last. [Refrain]
5 Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue. [Refrain]

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY , DECEMBER 13TH 2016- SIGNS OF THE LAST DAYS

Memorise: And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Read: 1 Timothy 4:1-2
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.
‭‭
Bible in one year: Exodus 38:21-40:38, Psalm 119:97-112
AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

1 Beginning with the rapture, there will be extreme joy for those that will be found on the Lord’s side, while there will be extreme pain and sorrow  for those that will be found on the devil’s side.
2 As curtain begins to be drawn over the activities of this world, the trumpet will sound. Then, Jesus Christ will appear physically in the sky with overwhelming glory to raise the dead, judge the world, destroy every opposition to God, and consummate His everlasting kingdom.
3 The same two questions that the whole world still ask till date are; when shall these things be? What shall be the signs?
4 Never believe anyone that gives you a date or timetable for the second coming of Jesus, no matter how advanced the mathematical theory may see.
5 The key things to look for are these; false prophets, lovers of self, wars and rumors of war, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, persecution, betrayal, iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, some shall depart from the from the faith, seducing spirits, doctrines of devils hypocrisy.
6 Any teaching that cannot be substantiated with the Bible belongs to the devil; avoid them and their messages like a plague. Be warned.

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS
Yes, there is no exact time or date but we have pointers to show us signs of the last day. These signs are listed in our devotional today and it is expedient believers look out for these signs daily so as to deliberately and consciously avoid those in our capacity to avoid.
We read and hear of different absurd teaching and miracle strategies some prophets/pastors introduce to their congregation. Some are extremely dangerous and bad morally, medically and even spiritually. All on the list of key things to look out for is presently happening and then we can say our Lord Jesus is around the corner. God will help us to remain steadfast in faith and have our gaze set on Him alone that we may on the last day reign with Him in Jesus name.
It’s our prayer that the Lord will strengthen our Father Pastor E.A Adeboye in the work of the father to lead even more people to Christ before rapture in Jesus name.
Prayer point
Lord Jesus, please send the fire of revival to keep me burning for you till Your Second Coming.

HYMN 10
1 When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more,
and the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
when the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore,
and the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
Refrain:
When the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.
2 On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise,

OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL: MONDAY , DECEMBER 12TH 2016- ACCEPTABLE UNTO GOD

Memorise: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1
Read: Acts 10:34-35 (KJV)
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Bible in one year: Exodus 35:30-38:20, Psalms 119:81-96

AS REVEALED BY PASTOR E.A ADEBOYE IN TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

  1. God’s acceptability of any human being is an act of His love, mercy, grace and favour.

God accepts people who respond to him by faith. This is why we have categories of children in the Kingdom of God

  1. Amongst the adopted children, there are golden, sliver, wooden and earthen sons and daughters. Also, there are repentant and reliable as well as deceitful and unreliable children. What kind of child are you?
  1. Although, God loves all His children, yet, not all of them please Him equally. While the unrepentant ones displease the Lord, the repentant and reliable ones please Him.
  1. To be acceptable to God as a beloved son or daughter is not an easy task. It requires total submission to God’s will and total obedience to His commandments

SHORT REFLECTION BY THE LIGHT POINTERS

Pleasing our maker, the author and the finisher of our faith should be our priority. When we constantly please God by doing what is our reasonable service and His will concerning our lives. When we satisfy the conditions of God over our lives, He grants us our heart desire. “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalms 37:4 KJV. Just like our father in the Lord stated in today’s devotional  that “to be acceptable to God as a beloved son or daughter is not an easy task. It requires total submission to God’s will and total obedience to His commandments ” this is a truth that all believers must run with to fulfill purpose in life.  Blessed be God for our father in the Lord Pastor E. A Adeboye for the great insight in today’s devotional. May he continually increase in strength and grace in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Point
Father, help me to meet the standard of Your acceptability in the Name of Jesus.
HYMN
1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.
2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.
3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.
4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.
5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.
6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.
